A tendency to limit the use of asbestos has appeared in Poland several years ago. As the result of legislation and technological activities questions dealing with production, exploitation, management of wastes and storage of asbestos and its products have been regulated. Carcinogenous activity of asbestos was the reason of mentioning it in a list of seriously hazardous materials. Up to that date asbestos has been used for many years at a very large scale. It would be hard to point even one human production without participation of asbestos. Identification of products containing this mineral, and therefore also its removal and utilization, is very difficult because before 1997 such products were not registered. The objective of this paper was to present the magnitude of hazards ads resulting in the use and restoration of various buildings where azbestos was used as well as removal of products containing asbestos.
