The commercial pure titanium (cp-Ti) powder was milled under argon atmosphere in the high energetic planetary mill Fritsch Pulveristette P5 at 200 rpm for 80 hrs. The changes of structure, size of crystallites and lattice strain within milled powder after different milling times were verified by using the X-ray diffraction technique. The decrease of crystallite size down to nanometr range and increase of the lattice strain were observed as a function of the milling time. Influence of the process control agent (stearic acid added into pure titanium powder) on the structure during milling was also investigated. In order to compare the changes of the crystallite size and structure, intermetallic alloy of Ti48Al (at. %) composition was milled up to 80 hrs. In this case after several hours of milling the amorphization process was observed. The changes of micro-hardness of particles as a function of the milling time were determined by optical microscope equipped with micro hardness tester with a load of 20 g. Transmission electron microscopy was used for microstructural and chemical homogeneity examination of powder after the longest milling time.
