The International Congress on Glass, ICG, has been held every three years since 1934, under auspieces of the International Commission on Glass is always a very important event for all people involved into glass research and manufacturing. The XX ICG had been held from 28 September to 2 October 2004 and was a memorial meeting for the Ceramic Society in Japan, as main Organizer, that hosted XX ICG at the same Kyoto International Conference Hall as the X ICG 30 years ago in a just new-built building. Accordingly to the tradition of the ICG-s, the Congress Organizing Committee of the XX ICG and Authorities of the International commission on Glass have ensured as the Congress invited speakers and plenary sessions lecturers, many of the most known scientists and people with a very good knowledge on glass technology, production, processing and applications. Apart from the main sessions of the XX ICG the parallel events and activities, like workshop on "Ancient Asian Glass", symposium on Nano-Technology of Glass, special session "Glass Science and Technology" and ICG Committee plenary and Technical Committee meetings were performed. In this paper the main themes the XX ICG was dealt, are listed. They were connected with glass technology, nowadays scientific knowledge on glass as material, the newest trends in the glass research and application, especially glass properties modification by means of nano-technology, coatings, etc.
