Możliwości powstawania nowych "serc" współczesnych miast w postaci struktur o charakterze śródmiejskim uzależnione są m.in. od lokalizacji o bogatym kontekście znaczeniowym oraz odpowiedniego sposobu integracji z istniejącą strukturą miejską. Krawędzie nadbrzeży miast europejskich, mając potencjał bazujący na kontekście strukturalnym i historyczno- kulturowym, mogą stać się nowym sercem miasta przy spełnieniu warunku odpowiedniej integracji na poziomie strukturalnym i społeczno-kulturowym. Podstawowym elementem integracji staje się przestrzeń publiczna, której strategia kształtowania uzależniona jest od relacji przestrzennych pomiędzy transformowanym obszarem a strukturą istniejącego śródmieścia.

Possibilities of forming new "hearts" of contemporary cities shaped as structures of central character depend on several factors: location with a rich semantic context and a suitable manner of integrating with the existing urban structure. The edges of the waterfronts of European cities, having potential based on the structural, historical and cultural context, may become the new "heart of a city" if they fulfill the terms of adequate integration on the structural, social and cultural level. A public space, whose strategy of shaping depends on the spatial relationships between an area under transformation and the structure of the existing city centre, is becoming the basic element of integration.
