EN

Ornament in architecture is an essential element, although its role is secondary and complementary. Making decorations is a last step in creation of a good form. Ornamentation may counteract monotony, emphasise elements which are important, provide the form with an optic balance and put in order the whole of the composition. It can also act as a background. Ornamentation unifies different arts by repeating similar motives - for example in materials and coulors of the architecture and its background. The colour of ornaments activates the surface of every form and reveals its depth, without using shadows. It helps in articulation of different planes and shapes in space. Suggestive effect of ornamentation is built on comprehension of the essence of the material, in which they are created, its structure, character and colour. Ornamentation has always helped to read the relation of forms to specific time, culture and to recognise the style and fashion. Ornaments toogether with the other means of expression, constitutes a kind os historical continuity, so that it is an important source of inspiration in creation of architecture.
