Poland’s joining North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and a close perspective of our entering the European Union creates the need to verify the armed forces’ role and function in different political conditions and to prepare them to new tasks of both military and humanitarian character. Transformations taking place in the armed forces make us consider the shape and possible changes in military education due to its coherence with national education system being reformed currently. Officers’, warrant officers’ and non-commissioned officers’ education and training for the future needs requires, on the one hand, increased intellectual effort from didactic staff and students, on the other, assuring necessary conditions for conducting effectively the didactic process and its organisation. Most of all, it is essential to construct modern educational programmes and to set up appropriate institutions to run them. The article discusses the changes in military education during the last 10 years, current organisation structure of our military education and planned directions of changes included in “The Programme of Integration with NATO and the Armed Forces Modernisation in 1998-2012” .
