The use of innovative technologies in the construction sector is progressing at a geometric rate. The most visible and widely reported process seems to be the application of BIM technology – modeling of building object information, in the design, construction and management of cubic structures, infrastructure or public spaces. The idea of a digital twin seems to be getting closer to realization, as long as there is integration of BIM, with other technologies. In recent years, numerous and different opinions on BIM have been observed. BIM is often said to be a technology, a process or a methodology. The paper presents cognitive errors in the understanding of BIM – the modeling of information about a building object. The article contributes to the discussion on the understanding and comprehension of BIM, which is still not clear. The latest state of knowledge and technology makes it possible to formulate the statement that BIM is the future of digital construction in the era of Industry 4.0/5.0.

Wykorzystanie innowacyjnych technologii w sektorze budowlanym postępuje w tempie geometrycznym.
