Hierarchy of private, social/semi-private and public space is a symptom of the territorialism. Identification with territory and with social group is especially important in housing environment and a contact between people creates human attitudes and behaviour. Connections can be spontaneously or rationally. In the housing unit appears a medial form, close to the rural community and to the rational group of people with the same social or financial status. To assure the security is one of the aim of grouping and the borders, cameras and guards around housing islands are the result of it. It is not only Polish problem. On the illustrations are shown some examples from Spain and Scandinavia. It is clear that security is the base human need and has to be fulfilled, but there are better solutions than the fence. Scandinavian housing shows how greenery and landscape can create the appropriate division between spaces. It is also shown interesting solution from project Punctum Milenium en Pinto, Madrid, made by Peter Cook, Salvador Perez Arroyo and Eva Hurtado. Small group of houses around social space is lifted above the main level, what limited the area and access from outside. Simultaneously the artificial landscape enables good contact with nature. The division on the separate levels we can observe in Olympic Village in Barcelona. It is the example of the city-block which creates public and social space by architectural and urban tools. Conclusions: - We have a lot of architectural, urban, landscape tools, which can save security and the hierarchy: private, semi-private/social and public space. - Housing unit ought to create not only inner space for inhabitants but taking the common free space in the city or in green area should give it back as a public space in good quality. - It is necessary to improve consciousness of inhabitants, architects and developers but simultaneously the kind of tools should be formulated in the building low.
