Abstrakty
The increasing number of suicide terrorist attacks has led to perceive them as a serious and unpredictable threat for people's existence. The phenomenon had not been fully appreciated in analyses until the September 11 suicide operation in the USA showed that a few people, ready to sacrifice their life in order to achieve a political goal, could change the world’s history. Suicide terrorism can also be treated as a new weapon of mass destruction, because regardless of the physical damages, suicide attacks carry potent psychological ramifications for the target society, additionally increased by media, which gives a wide coverage to each single attempt. The article presents suicide terrorism with a historical perspective and is the first one of a few devoted to this problem.
