As part of the organization of the Nova Civitas in Okol initiated by King Władysław Łokietek in the first quarter of the 14th century a group of stone single - track market stalls was erected. They stood in two rows, with a lane in the middle, in the area of a market-place situated in the central part of Okol, at the north side of the 13th century St. Mary Magdalene Church. There were forethresholds along the inner sides of the chambers, presumably in the form of wooden platforms rested upon the stone walls. Each of the chambers had its own entrance into the ground floor as well as a window and a descent to the cellar. In an upright structure the building had three usable levels: 1-of cellars, partly let into the ground, serving as warehouses, 2-highly situated ground floors accessible from the forethresholds, presumably intended for the trade, 3-welling level. The whole building was covered with high saddle roofs. As a result of earth exploration at courtyard of the house No 51, Grodzka Street, a face of the west wall of ancient market stalls was uncovered. The wall is displayed at the length of 10,5 m. It preserved its original character to the height of 4 metres obove the ground. The portion of the tenement which constitutes this structure is distinguished by its elaborate workmanship. In the portion of the wall one can find an oryginal stone portal of a descent to the cellar The form of the portal: an ogival closure, a broad phasing of the edge, the proportions of the opening in the ratio of 1 to 2 as well as a manner of elaboration of the block surface, locate the portal in the first quarter of the 14th century. An upper date limit for the Okol market stalls is the year 1335 in which the location of Kleparz took place, whereupon Kleparz took over the role of the New City The reason for diving up the formation of Nova Civitas in Okol was an unsuitable terrain which showed no promise of a more extensive development. In 1343 sources inform about the process of taking over lots and buildings on Okol by new owners. Presumably it is the parcelling of market stalls being no longer in use that is involved here. The term „Okol" was used for the last time in 1347.
