Effects of starvation on electrocardiogram changes in cattle

In 14 experiments, electrocardiograms (ECGs) were recorded in 6 cows before, during and after 4-day starvation with or without watering. Mainly, marked sinus bradycardia, decrease of the contraction index, and increase of the T wave amplitude were found. These changes intensified during the starvation period, most rapidly after the first day, and disappeared after returning to the normal feeding and watering.
