The fat samples of 134 wild boars, 108 roe deer and 105 red deer delivered to the laboratory in 1990—1991 were analysed by GLC for the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). Seven per cent of the samples from wild boars, nine per cent from red deer and 15 per cent from roe deer did not possess PCB at the detection level, i.e. over 5 ug per 1 kg. The highest average concentration of PCB was found in the fat of wild boars (46 ± 34 ug per 1 kg); it was lower in red deer (21 ± 16 ug per 1 kg) and the lowest in roe deer (18 ± 13 ug per 1 kg). The level of PCB was probably related with the species feeding habits which will be the subject of further investigations.
