Phytophthora ramorum - a new pathogen for plants in the world and in Poland
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
Phytophthora ramorum is a new, invasive pathogen found in 1993-94 in Europe and the USA and described as a new species by Werres et al. In western part of the USA the species is a causal agent of sudden oak death whereas in Europe it is the main agent of blight of ericaceous plants and death of viburnum. In European countries the pathogen may easy spreads from ornamental plants to forests. In nature P. ramorum was found on some forest plants but mainly on beech and 4 species of oaks. During 10 years the pathogen was detected in about 60 plant species and in Polish nurseries on cowberry, heather, photinia, pieris and rhododendron. The pathogen develops at temperature range from 2° to 29°C with optimum about 20°C. Zoosporangia are already formed at 7.5°C with optimum 15°-20°C. Chlamydospores are formed on invaded tissues a few days after developing of first disease symptoms. The species is heterothallic with 2 mating types. Both types were discovered from diseased plants in Europe and the USA, but isolates of P. ramorum from American natural ecosystems belong to A2 type and till now only one isolate of A1 type was found in Europe. There are some genetic and phenotypic differences between both populations. Elimination of diseased plants from nurseries, their buming and spraying of potential hosts with dimethomorph, fosethyl Al, fenainidone and metalaxyl may minimize the pathogen development and spread.
