Spadek zainteresowania w Polsce bierną profilaktyką fluorkową endogenną (fluorkowanie wody pitnej i żywności) był powodem podjęcia badań nad właściwościami past do zębów będących nośnikami fluoru. Celem pracy była ocena parametrów reologicznych dziesięciu losowo wybranych fluorkowych past do zębów zakupionych w handlu detalicznym oraz próba interpretacji uzyskanych wyników w aspekcie właściwości aplikacyjnych decydujących o dostępności farmaceutycznej jonu fluorkowego.

The very limited interest in passive endogenous caries prevention by fluoridation of potable water and food in Poland has stimulated research on fluoride-supplemented toothpastes. The rheological properties of ten random-selected toothpaste brands available in the market were investigated. The results were assessed with reference to the pharmaceutical availability of the fluoride ion. Viscosity of the preparations, their thixotropic characteristics, flow limit value and extensibility were determined. A low value of the flow limit ensures that the fluoride ion can easily diffuse into the external compartment after the applications. The lowest flow limit value was noted for the Lactalut Activ toothpaste. The Colgate Maximum Cavity is characterised by the highest extensibility, suggesting a chance for fluoride ion diffusing from a large surface of the formulation. The Colodent Citrus Mint and the Colodent Super White are low viscosity system of small surface area, characterised by a hysteresis loop at 37°C. The considerable pharmaceutical availability of the fluoride ion from those pastes is attributable to a high speed of release of the active agent to the external compartment, which is confirmed by the calculated diffusion coefficient values.
