The stomach contents of 32 wolves Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758 collected throughout Greece during autumn and winter 1991 and 1992 were examined for prey remains. Of these 28 stomachs contained measurable quantities of food. Of the 19 species that were found in the wolf diet 12 species were mammals. The main food items were goats, sheep, pigs and cows. Large wild herbivores did not play a significant role in the wolf diet. The observed consumption of grasses and fruits are important when they are available. The maximum food content in the examined stomachs was 1860 g.
