The influence of selenium and vitamin E on the activity of enzymes in blood of cows in periparturient period

Abstrakty
The aim of the investigations was to establish how an antiparturient application of selenium and vitamin E can influence the activity of certain enzymes in blood plasma of cows just after parturition. The observations were done on 19 cows Deutsche Schwarzbunte. One group of cows (group I — 6 animals) was injected im 300 mg of vitamin E as alpha tocopherol, group II (5 cows) received 5,0 mg of selenium as Se Met, and group III (7 cows) served as a control. The level of se and alpha tocopherol, activity of GOT, CPK, AP and y-GT in plasma before delivery, at the time of parturition and 12 and 24 h after parturition were determined. A mean level of se and alpha tocopherol before parturition was 36,9—50,8 ng/ml and 3,25—4,55 jimdl/L, respectively. The injection of selenium or vitamin E had no effect on dynamics of selenium and vitamin E in blood plasma and on activity of GOT, AP andy y-GT after parturition, however in both groups of cows the activity of CKP before parturition was significantly lower than that just after parturition (group I — 41,1—166,2 u/L, p < 0,001; group II — 38,4—67,7 u/L, p < 0,05).
