Thessaloniki brothers Sts. Constantine-Cyrill and Methodius are indelibly written in our religious, national and cultural tradition. Their first paintings are connected with the era of the national rebirth in the 19th century. Till that time their artistic displaying has done a difficult development that was incepted not only from the stylistic manner, but also from the political situation in the society. In this article we want to give basic orientation about the beginning of their artistic displaying and general development in the 1th half of the 20th century. We shall show two manners: realistic and expressive – abstract that are a ground lines in the art works. Gravity´s centre of this article is demonstration of this problem by giving illustration from the authors working from the 2nd half of the 20th century to the beginning of the millennial decades. This topic will be reflected on the flat disciplines (painting, graphics) by describing of style, composition, attributes, etc. There will be used only artworks of the Slovak, or in Slovakia living authors and relating the church orientation of the West Rite. The artistic paintings binding with the East Church – icons, are not subjects of this study.
