The late 50s and early 60s of the 20th century were influential years for the Catholic Slovak diaspora in Rome, characterized by intensive preparations for the historic 1100th anniversary of Saints Cyril and Methodius arrival in Great Moravia. This commemoration served as a powerful catalyst, mobilizing efforts across three primary areas: the jubilee pilgrimage in 1963, editorial initiatives, and ultimately, the decision to establish the Slovak Institute of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Rome. The most significant events were the jubilee celebrations in 1963, featuring numerous gatherings, particularly the May festivities and the Slovak national pilgrimage in Rome in September. Following these celebrations, several important documents remained for Slovaks, but most notably, the primary outcome was the Slovak Institute of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the most successful initiative of a Slovak generation abroad, rooted in the genuine Cyrillo-Methodian tradition of the Slovak Catholic diaspora.
