The paper presents examples of diagnostics of historic reinforced concrete structures to determine the structural condition of structures after nearly a century of service. Due to the lack of or incomplete documentation in such cases, there is a need to determine material strength parameters, geometric inventory and location and identification of reinforcement. The assessment of the condition of the structure is also influenced by the damage found (scratches, deflections, cracks) and the history of the structure. Evaluation and analysis of the technical condition of historic reinforced concrete structures requires multidirectional research.

W artykule przedstawiono przykłady diagnostyki zabytkowych konstrukcji żelbetowych, które miały na celu określenie stanu konstrukcji obiektów po blisko stu latach eksploatacji. Ze względu na brak lub niepełną dokumentację w takich przypadkach istnieje konieczność określenia wytrzymałości materiałów, inwentaryzacji geometrycznej i lokalizacji oraz identyfikacji zbrojenia. Na ocenę stanu konstrukcji wpływają także stwierdzone uszkodzenia (zarysowania, ugięcia, pęknięcia) oraz historia budowli. Ocena i analiza stanu technicznego zabytkowych konstrukcji żelbetowych wymaga wielokierunkowych badań.

Artykuł dotyczy przekryć dachowych i tarasowych wykonywanych w odwróconym układzie warstw, z roślinnymi warstwami wykończeniowymi. Na podstawie przykładowego obiektu, tzn. przekrycia dachowego Galerii Handlowej „Sfera II”, przeanalizowano wymagania krajowe dotyczące powierzchni biologicznie czynnej niezbędnej do stosowania w zabudowie wielorodzinnej. Analizy te uzupełniono o dyskusję nt. właściwości użytkowych materiałów hydroizolacyjnych zabudowanych w ww. przekryciu dachowym w kontekście ich trwałości, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem odporności na przerastanie przez korzenie. Przedyskutowano skuteczność metod badawczych przyjętych w normach europejskich do oceny tej zasadniczej charakterystyki wyrobów hydroizolacyjnych.

This study focuses on inverted roof and terrace systems with vegetated finishing layers. Based on the example of the roof covering of the „Sfera II” Shopping Gallery, national requirements regarding the biologically active surface area necessary for use in multifamily buildings were analyzed. These analyses were supplemented with a discussion of the functional properties of waterproofing materials incorporated in the aforementioned roof system, particularly their durability and resistance to root penetration. The effectiveness of the research methods adopted in European standards for evaluating this fundamental characteristic of waterproofing products is also discussed.

The article discusses the results and methodology of work in the research project, which was focused on the concept of extending the building of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology with new open-concept spaces. The aim of the project was multi-threaded research and design works in the field of indicating the possibilities of building extension and constructing an integrated terrace containing a ramp intended for people with disabilities, moving in a wheelchair as well as determining the potential architectural and artistic directions of the planned extension. As a result of the conducted research based on the research by design method the implementation guidelines and design recommendations were defined. The article also presents three model design solutions.

Over the past 50 years, China has implemented a series of ecological construction projects in the Loess Plateau that have significantly decreased the runoff and sediment from the Yellow River, and it plays an important role in check dams and terraced fields. In this study, the hydrological characteristics of check dams and terraces are used to distinguish their runoff generation pattern. Combined with different runoff generation patterns, runoff generation models were built, and quantitative analysis was conducted on the runoff reduction situation of check dams and terraced fields. Chenggou River Basin, in the Loess Plateau Zhuli River System's second tributary, was selected as an example for analyzing quantitatively the influence of check dam and terraced fields on the runoff production process. Twenty-nine rainfall-food events from 2013 to 2017 were used to evaluate the effect of the runoff generation model, and the results showed that the built model could well simulate the runoff generation in the basin with many check dams and terraces in which runoff relative error of the model was less than 10%. The effect of check dams and terraces on runoff was studied by setting different scenarios. The results show that the dam system can intercept over 50% of the runoff yield of the basin. Terraced fields can enhance the water storage capacity of the basin and reduce the runoff of the basin, and intercept over 10% of the runoff yield of the basin.

This article is a systematic review of the literature on the energy efficiency and energy efficient construction of roofs. This paper considers seven types of roof, including insulated, double-skin, cool roofs, green roofs, roofs with photovoltaic panels, biosolar roof and roof ponds. The review covers the main characteristics of each roof, the reduction of heat flux and the appropriate climate for its implementation. These roofs can reduce energy consumption for cooling or heating systems. For the cold period of the year the warmed roof which reduced heat losses of the room to 70% proved to be the most effective. In hot climates the cool roof is the simplest covering, which reduces the flow of solar radiation into the room by 30%. The installation of a double-skin roof or a pond on the roof stabilizes the temperature in the room on hot days. Green roofs in hot climates can reduce the heat of solar radiation through the roof to 35%, and the presence of photovoltaic panels on the green roof can increase their efficiency by 8.3%. To increase the energy efficiency of the roof, it is advisable to combine several types of roofs.

Artykuł stanowi przegląd literatury dotyczącej energooszczędnych rozwiązań konstrukcji dachów. W artykule omówiono siedem rozwiązań dachów, w tym dach izolowany, dach o podwójnej konstrukcji, dach chłodzony, dach zielony, dach z panelami fotowoltaicznymi, dach biosolarny i taras. Przegląd zawiera charakterystykę każdego dachu, redukcję strumienia ciepła oraz wskazuje warunki klimatyczne odpowiednie do zastosowania takiego rozwiązania. Zastosowanie odpowiednich rozwiązań może zmniejszy zużycie energii na chłodzenie lub ogrzewanie. W okresie zimowym najkorzystniejszy okazał się dach ocieplony, który pozwala na zmniejszenie strat ciepła do 70%. W klimacie gorącym najlepszym rozwiązaniem jest powłoka chłodząca, która ogranicza dopływ promieniowania słonecznego do pomieszczenia o 30%. Zastosowanie dachu podwójnego lub tarasu pozwala na stabilizację temperatury w pomieszczeniu w upalne dni. Zielone dachy w gorącym klimacie mogą zmniejszyć ciepło promieniowania słonecznego przez dach do 35%, a obecność paneli fotowoltaicznych może podnieść ich wydajność o 8,3%. Aby zwiększyć efektywność energetyczną dachu, zaleca się łączenie kilku rodzajów dachów.

This paper traces how very different patterns of historical development of two cities have impacted on their housing tissues as they have evolved over the last 200 years. Using cases from Krakow and Oxford, a selection of urban tissues will be investigated in relation to the way the housing unit, whether house or apartment, relates to the public realm of the city. The chosen cases exemplify the difference between English cities, predominantly of terraced, semidetached or single houses, and Continental European cities which have predominantly evolved as apartment tissues. This difference is emphasized by recent figures showing the different proportions of house types in European countries. The way these tissues have evolved in relation to broader social and political contexts is discussed. Finally the argument is brought up to date by considering ways the concepts of modernism and recent global forces are imposing similar patterns of development in both cases. The authors in addition to their academic affiliations have had considerable practical experience in the field of housing in their respective contexts.
