Charged aerosol particles arc used in many industrial processes, for example in chemical industries, agriculture, medicine, environment protection. In the applications in which aerosol particles are used it is very important to control their size and charge. A review of measurement methods for the size and charge of aerosol particles determination is presented in the paper. The methods of measurement of the size and charge of aerosol particles can be divided into two groups: contact methods and con-tactless methods. A separate group of methods for aerosol investigation comprises the devices for measurement of particles velocity, i.e. PIV {Particle Image Velocimetry), LDA (Laser Doppler Anemometry), PDA (Particic Dynamics Analysis). These methods can be helpful to define the size and charge of measured aerosol.
Measuring stands enabling practical implementation of the diffraction method for measuring the drop sizes of the fuel aerosol stream are presented. The construction of the diffractometer is described in which the recording of the light intensity distribution is made by scanning the image plane with a detecting system adjusted to the specificity of the image. A stand for measuring the average drop diameter in aerosols produced by fuel injectors of airplane turbine engines are presented and examples of the examination results are shown.
