Due to the continuous increase in fuel consumption in the transportation sector and the related environmental issues, such as climate change and energy depletion, there is a pressing need to research, develop, and implement more sustainable modes of transportation. This study assesses the expected environmental implications of the penetration of electric motorcycles in the Australian market. For this purpose, the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to be produced by motorcycles during the next 15 years were determined by developing relevant ARIMA and exponential smoothing prediction models and using different scenarios (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% electric motorcycles penetration). Moreover, this study considered the future contribution of renewable energy to electricity sources. The results showed that the continuous dependence on the internal combustion engine motorcycle (ICEM), as a two-wheeled mode of transportation, can lead to a considerable increase in GHG emissions and fossil fuel consumption in the long term, and in this case, the expected increase in GHG emissions could be around 40% from 2020-2040. Meanwhile, the partial substitution of ICEMs with electric motorcycles at a percentage of more than 25% by 2040 could lead to substantial GHG emissions reductions. With EM penetration rates of 50% and 75%, the corresponding fall in GHG emissions would be 44.56% and 66.84%, respectively. Meanwhile, a complete replacement of ICEMs with electric motorcycles could lead to an 89.12% reduction in GHG emissions by 2040.

The aim of this research is to explore the current urban transportation system of a megacity, Karachi. It was done by analyzing the Public Transport (PT) route network and commuter’s mode choice along with mode share. Four major arterials were selected for the study. Data was collected through field surveys and questionnaire-based survey. PT system of Karachi mainly consists of buses and minibuses. It was found that PT has 16% share in mode choice of Karachi’s travelers, which is less than most of the metropolitan cities in the world, and it has been decreasing constantly over the years. Most of the private vehicle users consider PT to be inefficient and uncomfortable. However, there is a willingness to use PT modes if they can provide at affordable prices. The current PT users are captive and women riders, which are bound economically or culturally to use these modes. Other sustainable modes of transport such as car-sharing and walking do not have significant share in mode share as well. Focused awareness campaigns for promotion of these modes should also be initiated.

Permeable pavement is considered one of the sustainable management options for roadway networks, which mitigates a number of problems associated with stormwater, ground water pollution, and traffic safety. In this study, the economic feasibility, vehicle operation, and environmental implications of implementing permeable pavement in Nablus, Palestine have been determined by selecting the local roadways that satisfy the permeable pavement requirement, such as low traffic volume, grade less than 5%, speed limit up to 50 km/h, and subgrade with good permeability. The total costs of construction and maintenance for both conventional asphalt and permeable pavement have also been compared based on the life cycle cost analysis (LCCA). Finally, the environmental implications such as the expected increase in the amount of ground water and the reduction in water pollutants have been investigated. The results of the analysis show that the permeable pavement is applicable for the local roadways that have satisfied the requirements, which are 61 roadways. Furthermore, it could lead to an annual significant increase in ground water by 107,404.7 m3 and slightly reduce the cost of construction and maintenance by up to 1,912,000 ILS during its life period compared to conventional asphalt pavement. Moreover, applying porous asphalt could enhance vehicular traffic safety by improving skid resistance.

Purpose. This study assesses the challenges of incorporating sustainability into South Africa's transport infrastructure, focusing on Johannesburg. Methodology. A quantitative approach was employed, using closed-ended questionnaires distributed to professionals involved in road infrastructure delivery and construction in South Africa. Data were analyzed using Mean Item Score (MIS) and factor analysis. Results. Key challenges identified include lack of political commitment to sustainable transportation, insufficient investment in energy-efficient vehicles, and resource constraints. The study also highlighted the need to expand and modernize transport infrastructure to accommodate population growth and increased economic activities. Theoretical contribution. This research provides insights into the specific barriers to sustainable transport infrastructure development in an urban South African context. Practical implications. The findings underscore the importance of improved coordination among government entities, private sector participants, and communities to address challenges and achieve sustainable transport infrastructure development.

Sustainable Development Goals require holistic actions, including activity at the intersection of urban planning and environmental engineering. Turning our cities towards transit oriented development might help in reducing pollutant emissions caused by individual transportation modes that rely on crude oil. This research presents how the use of geospatial network analysis can support local decision makers in the evaluation of potential public transport accessibility by citizens in the case of a Central European city – Wrocław (Poland). The obtained results indicate differentiation in access to railway stations and stops, which results from pedestrian path networks and the number of entrances to railway stations. The visualization of serve area shows which parts of the city are excluded from comfortable access to public transport and in that way high light where future actions should be taken.

Zaprezentowany referat odnosi się do istotnych elementów stosowania logistyki miejskiej we współczesnych miastach. Niedługa historia stosowania koncepcji logistycznych w zarządzaniu miastami oraz stosunkowo niewielka ilość publikacji na ten temat rodzi wiele nieporozumień co do zakresu, przedmiotu i celu logistyki miejskiej, będącej de facto jakościowo nowym obszarem zastosowania koncepcji logistycznych do rozwiązywania problemów w funkcjonowaniu i rozwoju miast w aspekcie organizowania i porządkowania strumieni rzeczowych, osobowych i informacyjnych. Stąd w referacie autorzy zaprezentowali swoje poglądy w tych kwestiach. Ponadto, w celu ilustracyjnym, opisali pobieżnie możliwości aplikacyjne, jakie stwarza teoria logistyki miejskiej.

The paper deals with quite new area of logistics - city logistics, in fact with some important elements of applying logistics ideas in modern cities. Short city logistics history is the main reason of misunderstandings about city logistics subject and its methods. This is why the Authors concentrated on these topics. Additionally they briefly presented possible applications given by theory of city logistics.
