Na subiektywnie pojmowaną jakość życia wpływa selektywna zbiórka surowców wtórnych. W niektórych przypadkach jej koszty można w sposób prosty określić oraz obliczyć, ale niekiedy taka możliwość nie istnieje. W artykule przedstawiono klasyfikację kosztów oraz wyniki wieloletnich badań dotyczących braku gotowości do ich ponoszenia.
Quality of life is affected by the costs of municipal solid waste management. Selective waste collection in households generates various costs and expenses. These include increased time consumption to sort and carry out own waste to waste containers. If the distance between a household and the container location is large, transport costs are generated. In 1994-2004, Polski Klub Ekologiczny (the Polish Ecological Club) conducted independent research in Poznań based on 4265 correctly completed questionnaires. The analysis showed that, at the beginning of the period surveyed, there was a group of households, depending on the age and education of the lady of the house, that did not accept any additional costs that might be generated if the household sorted its own waste. Throughout the research period, about 30% to 60% of the households were not willing to incur any additional costs for sorting domestic wastes. It needs to be stressed that the lower the education, the stronger the objection to accept these costs. However, another important factor is the age of the respondents. In the 1990’s, there usually was a relationship between the age of respondents and their refusal to accept any additional costs for sorting domestic wastes, i.e. the older the person, the less willingness to pay. From the year 2000, young people’s households are much more willing to pay for such waste sorting than the older households. This situation is caused by many factors, among which is the fact that the city of Poznań failed to provide its population with a comprehensive environmental education on MSW and recycling management. Small scale actions were undertaken. No particular target groups were addressed by large scale projects.
