The word cosiness includes meanings enabling direct reference to architecture. They have been described in the paper as the symbols of cosiness. The author, referring to the old canon, notices certain, useful analogy, resulting from its "mechanism", which despite including ready patterns comprised some limitations as well (that resulted in impressive historical legacy in architecture) and suggests a similar but not literal function for cosiness as a modern canon in a pro-human offer of the multi-family housing complexes.

Rozwój nowej architektury mieszkaniowej musi odpowiadać wymogom mieszkańców a nie inwestorom. Przez szybki rozwój zabudowy mieszkaniowej, co spowodowane jest dużym popytem na mieszkania, coraz częściej budowa polega na maksymalnym wykorzystaniu terenu pod zabudowę. Skutkuje to brakiem rekreacji przydomowej, a tereny, które powinny być na to przeznaczone zamieniają się w miejsca postojowe. Również ważna jest rekreacja ogólnodostępna, która powinna znaleźć się w miarę blisko miejsca zamieszkania. Projektując przestrzeń architektoniczną i urbanistyczną musimy dbać o jej zrównoważony rozwój. To właśnie architekt, urbanista musi dbać o potrzeby mieszkańców.

Constructing as marking borders and relations between interior/exterior is the special form of expression that should be considered in a broader context relating to different aspects of human life. Thus, a question arises about changes in the status of border in modem architecture which continuously transforms due to changes in human existence - a voyager in the world of new media. The borders currently understood as previous barriers become contact areas or plane of frontier (the in-between). Architects arc searching for solutions that will assure continuity in impression of landscape and internal area. Many projects, by utilizing large transparent areas and exterior walls, follow this idea. Varying topography of surroundings often inspires to segmenting monolith and creating the multilevel, flexible structure of interior. In this way, the basic change is achieved in perennial tradition of house constructing which is observed in a perspective of border marking. Interior is not an antithesis of exterior world anymore. Blurred borders, in modern architecture, change status of the place, the notion strictly combined with the sense of security and identity. Traditional place replaces the complicated system of links and contacts with all unlimited surroundings.

A couple of heuristic methods (techniques) for creative design task solving have been presented. A criterion of choice was their usefulness for creative dialog between psychological knowledge and residential architecture design experience, in a wider meaning of HABITAT. The motto of this dialog is an expression of Professor Z. Bac: Residential needs of a human being may not be calculated and entered into particular geometrical frame. It appears, that fundamental are graduation of space, multiplication of perspectives, creation of nooks and corners whose functions are defined by the inhabitants. The user should become co-author of the architectural design. Practical psychology develops methodology of creative task solving through stimulation of inventiveness, perfection of imagination, specifically applied imagination (applied imagination - A. Osborn). Heuristic is based on this type of mental activity (heuristic - promoting discovery) as well as heuristic's contemporary stream - inventiveness.

Research into the current needs of people regarding the place of abode is mostly justified at the relevant level of socio-economical development. It can fulfill the prospect of cognitive functions, but can also find an application in practice: in identification of the advantages of various places of abode, evaluation and rating of real estate, and in the process of rational shaping of the space where man functions. As sociologists stress - the needs of people and socio-economical development change, influenced by conditions of abode, a module propagated by mass media, family and friends and also by the possibilities of their being carried out. That is why a group of about 600 clients of Łódź real estate agencies interested in a change of their living area was researched. These people, facing an important decision in their lives, very carefully analyze their needs. It is possible to guess that opinions achieved by way of questionnaire survey are deeply thought over, and because of this they are worth paying attention to. They record the current needs of the inhabitants of such a big city as Łódź.
