Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a visual Lean Manufacturing tool for graphically illustrating material and information flows in processes, on production lines, and even across a factory. It makes it possible to identify activities that do not generate added value, and thereby creates opportunities for improvement by reducing or completely eliminating waste. This paper explores a real-work case study of the production process for an air handling unit. Thus, after analysing the activities undertaken in an enterprise operating in the HVAC (Heating Ventillation Air Conditioning) industry, a current state map was drawn that shows the actual flow of the value stream. Then, a future state map was developed with suggestions for eliminating the root causes of waste and those for improving processes. The proposed improvements allow for shorter lead time and faster order processing, which may increase competitiveness.

The popularity of visual management in the lean concept is caused by the possibility to apply it in solving different kind of issues related to reduce waste or process planning. The adaptations of VSM is focused on stream flow, identifying waiting and productive times in accordance to material and information flow. In this paper five basic areas of value stream flow management have been presented and characterized. Discussion under the 5 areas on the VSM process included identifying the dominant stream in the area and the range of factors affecting the flow of the stream. Based on an observation of processes in the manufacturing industry and a literature review, the graphic model of mutual cooperation between value stream areas (1- 5) has been presented.

The article presents the method of mapping the value stream and the stages of the creation of value stream mapping to identify the fundamental flaws of the process flow of information and shortening the duration of the process of the information in the audited company. The audited one large manufacturing company. Quantity of information which is reaching the company and process, is so large that it needs to implement methods to improve their flow. The research involved mapping the information when selected information flows.

The following paper discusses how to use of a company’s assets efficiently by the identification of value stream and the elimination of all the processes that do not contribute to a company’s added value. The identification of critical points of value stream by means of a map illustrating these processes helps to indicate the area where the selected elements of LEAN concept aiming at eliminating waste in domestic transport should be implemented. The article contains the analysis of the state of the current stream, and suggestions concerning its improvement.
