The paper concerns closed monolithic rectangular tanks produced in one stage (one technological process without interruptions or dilatations) that function as floating platforms in inland waters. It presents an analysis of static work of the above-described tanks subject to the hydrostatic load of walls and bottom as well as the uniform load of the upper plate. Calculations were made with the use of the finite difference method in terms of energy, assuming the Poisson’s ratio ν = 0. Based on the obtained results, charts are provided that illustrate the variation of bending moments for the characteristic points of the analysed tanks as per specific workloads. The paper also provides test calculations for buoyancy, stability and the metacentric height for one type of the tank that was produced for the study. In this case, in addition to the above-mentioned loads, the calculation also took into account load temperature and ice load floe. The paper presents photographs taken when launching a pontoon prototype.

Ground-supported tanks are used to store a variety of liquids. The fluid develops hydrodynamic pressure on walls and bottom of tank during an earthquake. This paper provides theoretical background for specification of impulsive and convective actions of fluid in liquid storage rectangular container by using analytical methods. Numerical model of tank seismic response - the endlessly long shipping channel was obtained by using of Finite Element Method (FEM), Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE), Fluid Structure Interactions (FSI) formulation in software ADINA. The results of the analytical methods and the numerical solution were compared for partially water filled channel grounded on hard soil or sub-soil 30 MNm-3. It was considered the horizontal ground motion of the earthquake in Loma Prieta.

Numeryczny model reakcji sejsmicznej zbiornika - nieskończenie długi kanał uzyskano, stosując metodę elementów skończonych (MES), równania Eulera-Lagrange’a, interakcję pomiędzy płynem i konstrukcją (FSI) w oprogramowaniu ADINA. Wyniki metod analitycznych i rozwiązania numerycznego porównano dla kanału częściowo wypełnionego wodą, uziemionego na twardej glebie lub podłożu 30 MNm-3. Analizowano ruch poziomy w trzęsieniu ziemi w Loma Prieta.

The article presents the results of validation of static calculations carried out for a monolithic rectangular tank with walls of trapezoidal cross-section. Static calculations were made with the use of software based on the finite element method (FEM) and the finite difference method (FDM) in terms of energy (including spatial static work of the tank). Validation of the results was conducted on a concrete tank model using an innovative measurement tool, i.e. a coordinate measuring arm with a touch probe.

Content available remote Seismic analysis of rectangular tanks - comparison of Malhotra and Housner models
EN
During earthquake activity the liquid in tank exerts impulsive and convective pressures (sloshing). This paper provides comparative study according to models by Malhotra and Housner for calculating of hydrodynamic effect of fluid developed during an earthquake in liquid storage ground-supported rectangular container.

The paper contains description some methods for solution of response of vertical rectangular containment with fluid which is subjected to horizontal seismic loads. Second part of present article contains the Housner's formulae for calculation of fluid-structure interaction. Further are considered impulsive and convective components of the fluid with various dynamic behaviour. The method for calculation of response of flexible containment is described in fourth part of the paper. For practical calculations were developed the programmes for computer PC.
