Purpose: Determining and discussing various strategies on social responsibility and their influence on the image of organization. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used in the paper is mainly a standardized survey conducted on the basis of a questionnaire containing closed and open questions carried out in two exemplary enterprises. The research process was also accompanied by analysis of source documentation. Findings: Research results verify research hypotheses formulated on basis of the paper’s objectives, enabling general conclusions. Research implications: Future research directions should focus on further, expanded research exploration in the area, taking into account various industries. Practical implications: The results of the research discussed in the paper have a number of practical implications mainly for the management staff in terms of use of social responsibility strategies. Social implications: Building awareness of social responsibility. Originality/value: The paper has cognitive value for the development of knowledge, science and quality in terms of social responsibility.

Purpose: to analyse the variables influencing the construction of a new approach in the strategic management process of an enterprise operating under uncertainty. As a theoretical background for the research, the 'valued' concepts related to business management occurring in the global economy were used, i.e. the concepts of knowledge economy, network organisation, sustainable development, time management and social participation. Design/methodology/approach: it is necessary to use methods in practice for research in management science based on observation of facts and the classification used in the methodology of inductive sciences such as: • observation carried out under natural conditions and interaction with the companies under investigation, • observation-intervention which takes place within the framework of transformation activities in companies, and the researcher has a direct influence on the decisions made in this respect. This implies the need to combine scientific and practical objectives. Findings: The market has forced a move away from the traditional business management approach to task-focused teams, where today's boss may be his subordinate's subordinate tomorrow, because that is better for the objectives of a particular project. These groups will be interdisciplinary, according to the nature of the task, and their participants will gain a pretty good knowledge of what the other partners are up to and will be prepared enough to replace them with dignity in forced situations. This approach offers an opportunity for the company to adapt more quickly to dynamic changes in the environment. Research limitations/implications: The research should address the development of a tool to support the selection of methods and approaches for the strategic management process under uncertainty. Practical implications: The authors have identified only some of the determinants of strategic management under uncertainty, such as the knowledge economy, sustainable development, network structure in the enterprise, time management, soft factors in the management process under uncertainty - emotional intelligence. The research should not only develop new approaches in the process of strategic management, but also identify management methods that should primarily be applied under conditions of uncertainty. Originality/value: In the conditions of pandemics and wars, it is necessary to develop a flexible approach to the process of strategic corporate management. It is also necessary to develop or modify existing management methods for these difficult times of dynamic change in the environment.

Purpose: Among the strategic potentials of a firm affecting both market and economic outcomes achievement by the firm, as well as gaining and maintaining a long-term competitive advantage by a firm, the key importance is assigned to the firm competences. The aim of the article is to identify the premises as well as the criteria and cross-sections of the classification of firm competences. Design/methodology/approach: The article indicates the key criteria and types of the firm competences within strategic management. An extensive literature review and an identification approach were used. Findings: Competences should be classified using different criteria. Individual competences may significantly affect the achievement of the expected market and economic outcomes, as well as building a long-term competitive advantage of a firm. Practical implications: The research outcomes presented in the article show the importance of the different types of the firm competences in strategic management. Originality/value: The most important criteria of the classification of the firm competences in the area of strategic management were presented. The article is addressed both to researchers as well as managers and other business practitioners.

Romanian agriculture is a sector that requires significant structural changes to become competitive on an international level. Integration into the European Union increased competition within the agrarian sector as a single market and, more broadly, in the global market. This research aims to analyze the comparative advantages of the main agriculture sectors at the Center Region level and compare them with the national level. The study underlines a specific regional development evolution in the case of the Center Region, as this region does not mirror the tendencies seen at the national level. The evolution of commercial flows can validate, in an objective way, the competitive sectors. This analysis intends to showcase strengths and opportunities for future development at the regional level, underlining the regions that have increased their specialization. All this information is important for stakeholders, who are responsible for designing and preparing the financial instruments used to support regional development. The research developed in the article can be used as an instrument for regional development management, helping to establish regional strategies for sustainable development. This instrument could also be used to achieve national objectives through the creation of strategic management documents for European regions. The article presents an analysis of the Center Region, Romania. The research is built on an analysis of the comparative advantages determined for the main agricultural sectors. Positive results were obtained by the Center Region at the national level, making it the first Romanian region to record positive results during the analyzed period for regional balance trade. The analysis identifies a regional development tendency for the Center Region that can be enhanced through efficient management at the regional level and supported through financing policies at the national level. The authors aim to empirically support the tendency shown by the evolution of comparative advantage for the Center Region as opposed to the tendency recorded at the national level, validating in this manner an instrument that can be used by the stakeholders to design regional development strategies. In this way, the competitive sectors can be objectively identified, validated through the evolution of commercial flows, and valorize through efficient management.

Rumuńskie rolnictwo to sektor, który wymaga istotnych zmian strukturalnych, aby stać się konkurencyjnym na poziomie międzynarodowym. Integracja do Unii Europejskiej zwiększyła konkurencję w sektorze rolniczym jako jednolitym rynku oraz szerzej na rynku globalnym. Badanie to ma na celu analizę porównawczą zalet głównych sektorów rolnictwa na poziomie Regionu Środkowego i porównanie ich z poziomem krajowym. Studium podkreśla specyficzną ewolucję rozwoju regionalnego w przypadku Regionu Środkowego, ponieważ ten region nie odzwierciedla tendencji obserwowanych na poziomie krajowym. Ewolucja przepływów handlowych może w obiektywny sposób potwierdzić sektory konkurencyjne. Analiza ta ma na celu przedstawienie mocnych stron i możliwości przyszłego rozwoju na poziomie regionalnym, wyodrębniając regiony, które zwiększyły swoją specjalizację. Wszystkie te informacje są istotne dla interesariuszy, którzy są odpowiedzialni za opracowywanie i przygotowywanie instrumentów finansowych ukierunkowanych na wspieranie rozwoju regionalnego. Badania przedstawione w artykule mogą zostać wykorzystane jako instrument zarządzania rozwojem regionalnym, pomagając w tworzeniu regionalnych strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju. Instrument ten mógłby zostać również wykorzystany do osiągnięcia celów krajowych poprzez stworzenie dokumentów zarządzania strategicznego dla regionów europejskich. W artykule przedstawiono analizę Regionu Środkowego w Rumunii. Badanie opiera się na analizie przewag komparatywnych określonych dla głównych sektorów rolnictwa. Region Środkowy osiągnął pozytywne wyniki co uczyniło go pierwszym na poziomie krajowym regionek, który odnotował pozytywne wyniki w analizowanym okresie dla regionalnego salda handlu. Analiza identyfikuje tendencję rozwoju regionalnego Regionu Środkowego, którą można wzmocnić poprzez skuteczne zarządzanie na poziomie regionalnym i wsparcie polityki finansowania na poziomie krajowym. Celem autorów jest empiryczne wsparcie tendencji, jaką wykazuje ewolucja przewag komparatywnych Regionu Środkowego, w odróżnieniu od tendencji obserwowanej na poziomie krajowym, walidując w ten sposób instrument, który może zostać wykorzystany przez interesariuszy do projektowania strategii rozwoju regionalnego. W ten sposób można obiektywnie zidentyfikować konkurencyjne sektory, zweryfikować je na podstawie ewolucji przepływów handlowych i wzmocnić je poprzez skuteczne zarządzanie.

Decision-making in companies is often based on the managers' personal experience. However, their consequences can have an impact on the development of the daily activities. To illustrate the managerial impact of decision-making, the biggest African power utility company based in South Africa will be analyzed. Various data such as annual productivity and energy sales were extracted over 15 years from his annual reports and two artificial neural network techniques named Levenberg-Marquardt and Scaled Conjugate Gradient used to analyze them. It emerged from the results obtained that between 2018 and 2020 the company experienced good growth which could extend until 2025 in the best-case scenario or else will drop again to reach its 2020 well-being state. Thus, the obtained results could be used to reinforce the decision-making and to determine the moment when decisions should be taken to prevent the demise of the company.

Podejmowanie decyzji w firmach często opiera się na osobistym doświadczeniu menedżerów. Jednak konsekwencje tychże decyzji mogą mieć wpływ na rozwój codziennych działań. Aby zilustrować wpływ podejmowania decyzji na zarządzanie, przeanalizowana zostanie największa afrykańska firma energetyczna z siedzibą w RPA. Różnorodne dane, takie jak: roczna produktywność i sprzedaż energii, zostały wyodrębnione z raportów rocznych z 15 lat. Do analizy wyodrębnionych danych wykorzystano dwie techniki sztucznych sieci neuronowych o nazwach: Levenberg-Marquardt i Scaled Conjugate Gradient. Z uzyskanych rezultatów badań wynika, że w latach 2018-2020 firma doświadczyła dynamicznego wzrostu, który w najlepszym przypadku może potrwać do 2025 r po czym spoadnie do poziomu z 2020 r. Uzyskane wyniki można zatem wykorzystać do wzmocnienia procesu decyzyjnego i określenia momentu, w którym należy podjąć decyzje zapobiegające upadkowi firmy.

Various indicators are used to determine the level of company diversification. Their adequacy largely depends on the structure of the production programme. Its essential feature is the comparative weight of the main product in the total scope of the company’s work. In this situation, the intensity of the diversification process is reflected by the decrease in the volume of this product due to the inclusion of new products in the production programme. In this case, the adequacy of the diversification indicator can be reflected by comparing the scale of the main product with changes in the value of these indicators. The adequacy will be higher with more changes in the values of diversification indicators corresponding to changes in the volumes of the main product. Four indicators of corporate diversification are the most well-known and widely used: the Berry index, the entropy measure, Utton’s measure and the DG index. All of them have both strong and weak sides, so it is important to determine situations of the company’s production programme in which diversification indicators are appropriate to use, i.e., in which situations their adequacy is the greatest. The research has established that if the comparative weight of the main product of the production programme in the total scope of work is greater than 0.5, then the adequacy of the entropy measure and index DG is higher compared to the Berry index and Utton’s measure. If it is lower than 0.5, the other two diversification indicators should be used. The obtained results will help to more efficiently manage the process of diversification as a company’s development strategy.

Purpose: The paper aims to show the application of the Balanced Scorecard in a mining services company as a tool enabling the implementation of the company's strategy. Design/methodology/approach: The aim of the paper will be achieved through web/desk research, critical analysis of literature on the topic of the paper and case study. Findings: The article contains a literature study of the Balanced Scorecard and indicates how important the development and implementation of the strategy is in the activities of mining services companies. The process of developing the strategy and its implementation is shown on the example of a mining services company (Polish abbreviation p.u.g.), existing on the mining industry market for more than twenty years, employing from 300 to 500 employees, depending on the situation in the market, with a defined mission and vision. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) was used as a tool for translating the company's strategy into its operations. The strategic objectives and their measures, as well as the conditions for adopting BSC into the operations of a mining services company, are presented. Originality/value: The example of the application of the Balanced Scorecard in the selected mining services company presented in the article may serve as an example for other mining companies.

Strategic management is not universally employed by Polish entrepreneurs. What is interesting, the mentioned situation refers mainly to the sector of small and medium-size enterprises (SME). In such case, we should indicate the instruments supporting the process of introducing the strategic management solutions, especially ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) class systems which support operational as well as strategic planning. The purpose of the present paper is to determine the needs of constructing the awareness of the entrepreneurs, mainly from MSP sector, in respect of strategic and process management supported by available ERP class systems. Lack of the mentioned awareness and lack of the flow of information on effect of vision, mission and processes causes a lack of basis for implementation of the assumptions of strategic and process management. Due to the above reasons, the discussed process should be supported by informatics systems of ERP class. besides it, the enterprises seek nowadays for the methods of management which would allow optimum utilization of the available resources. It means that they try to find the answer to the following question: how to increase the number of the produced goods or the rendered services with the limited resources? The answer to the mentioned question has been given in the present paper.

Zarządzanie strategiczne nie jest powszechnie stosowane przez polskich przedsiębiorców. co ciekawe, taka sytuacja dotyczy głównie sektora MSP (małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw). W takim przypadku należy wskazać narzędzia wspierające proces wdrażania rozwiązań zarządzania strategicznego, zwłaszcza systemów klasy ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) wspierających planowanie zarówno operacyjne, jak i strategiczne. Celem artykułu jest określenie potrzeb budowania świadomości przedsiębiorców, głównie z sektora MSP, w zakresie zarządzania strategicznego i procesowego wspartego dostępnymi systemami klasy ERP. Brak świadomości i brak przepływu informacji o działaniu wizji, misji, procesów powoduje, że brakuje podstaw do wdrażania założeń zarządzania strategicznego i procesowego. Z tego powodu proces powinien być wspierany systemami informatycznymi klasy ERP. Purpose: Nowadays, the amount of data generated by companies is increasing dramatically every year. More and more processes are being digitised, forcing the use of ever newer techniques. With the growing amount of data, companies are facing the problem of ensuring easy access to data and its security. An increasingly popular solution is blockchain, whose implementation, however, entails a number of risks. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article focuses on the analysis of the literature on blockchain and its use in the supply chain, regarding the changes and benefits brought by the introduction of the use of blockchain technology. The scope of the literature includes articles found in the Web of Science database, from 2016-2021. Findings: Authors provides a brief introduction and description of blockchain technology both in general and in relation to the supply chain based on 45 articles. After a static part, the author describes the risks associated with the introduction of the technology and presents possible ways to solve them. Conclusions: Authors of articles increasingly recognize the importance of blockchain technology to mitigate the risks of doing business. As a result, more and more solutions based on this technology are appearing, also in the supply chain. Originality/Value: Strategic and operational risks associated with the implementation of blockchain are poorly described in the scientific literature. Through his analysis, the authors expand the supply chain literature with additional theoretical coverage.

The main goal of this work is an attempt to answer the question about the level of implementation (concretization) of strategies created by enterprises operating in the agricultural machinery sector? As part of the project, first of all, research was undertaken to identify the microfoundaments of the adopted business model on the one hand, and on the other hand, define the development strategy. This required the formulation and implementation of partial tasks, which included, on the one hand, a query of the literature in direct relation to the research topic (theoretical and design layer), and on the other hand - in order to establish the level, scope and structure of the strategy microfundaments formulated by enterprises - empirical verification. The above resulted in the development of a research model. Compiling the model as a result of the exploration of the literature and discussion among deliberately selected experts - on the empirical level - determined the recognition of the level of strategy concretization among producers of the agricultural machinery sector (self-assessment). The concretized explications have become the substrate that defines the right direction for the conducted research (verification of the research model), the results of which will be presented in the presented part of the study.

This is a very competitive environment in which organizations must focus on strategic management factors to survive and develop a competitive advantage. The current study examines the effect of strategic leadership and organizational innovation on strategic management. It introduces a new mechanism of the effect of strategic leadership and organizational innovation by assessing the mediational role of the IT capability of the organization. It focuses on how an organization can do efficient strategic management by utilizing the strategic leadership and the organizational innovation. For this purpose, the data was collected from the faculty members of Malaysian universities. The data was collected through survey questionnaires. The usable response rate of the data was 61%. PLS-SEM technique was adopted for analysis for which Smart- PLS used. The findings of the study revealed that organizational innovation, strategic leadership and IT capability are important antecedents of strategic management. Moreover, mediating effect of IT capability was also confirmed. The findings of the study are helpful for academicians and policymakers.

Jest to bardzo konkurencyjne środowisko, w którym organizacje muszą skoncentrować się na czynnikach zarządzania strategicznego, aby mogły przetrwać i zdobyć przewagę konkurencyjną. Obecne badanie analizuje wpływ przywództwa strategicznego i innowacji organizacyjnych na zarządzanie strategiczne. Wprowadza nowy mechanizm oddziaływania przywództwa strategicznego i innowacji organizacyjnej poprzez ocenę mediacyjnej roli zdolności IT organizacji. Koncentruje się na tym, jak organizacja może skutecznie zarządzać strategicznym, wykorzystując strategiczne przywództwo i innowacyjność organizacyjną. W tym celu zebrano dane od wykładowców malezyjskich uniwersytetów. Dane zostały zebrane za pomocą kwestionariuszy ankietowych. Użyteczny wskaźnik odpowiedzi danych wyniósł 61%. Do analizy przyjęto technikę PLS-SEM, do której wykorzystano Smart-PLS. Wyniki badania ujawniły, że innowacyjność organizacyjna, przywództwo strategiczne i zdolności informatyczne są ważnymi poprzednikami zarządzania strategicznego. Potwierdzono również mediacyjny wpływ zdolności IT. Wyniki badania są pomocne naukowcom i decydentom.

Przybliżono istotę zarządzania logistycznego, logistyki jako filozofii zarządzania oraz wskazano, czym jest strategia logistyczna i jaką może dać przewagę nad konkurencją. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczny i poglądowy. Przedstawia istotny problem dotyczący powiązania decyzji w obszarze logistyki w sytuacji kryzysowej. W dobie pandemii i problemów wywołanych przez nią w obszarze decyzji strategicznych przedsiębiorstw jest to aktualny temat. Jako metodę badawczą zastosowano obserwację, analizę oraz syntezę. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie, iż podejmowane działania logistyczne powinny być zarówno ukierunkowane na potrzeby przedsiębiorstw, jak też zorientowane na wymagania płynące z rynku.

Furthermore, the proposed methodological approach will promote the development of applied tooling to develop systems of strategic management of investment and innovation activities of environmentally safe land management.In contrast to the existing methodological approaches in land relations, the developed methodology of strategic management of investment and innovation activities in ecologically safe land management is based on a comprehensive combination and use of foresight tooling.

Purpose: Changes in the market of educational services require changes in the management of a higher education institution. The use of strategic management of a higher education institution, which should allow the improvement in the quality of education and research, as well as enable the implementation of innovation and building a strong competitive position also seem to be significant in this respect. Many researchers dealing with the issues of planning, formulation, implementation and monitoring of strategies in organisations are aware of the factors identified as success factors and barriers to strategy implementation. The article presents deliberations about higher education in Poland. A synthetic description of higher education is presented. The paper also identifies and presents a proposal to classify factors influencing the process of strategy implementation in a higher education institution. Design/methodology/approach: The authors of the article, based on an in-depth literature analysis and their own experience, specified 113 factors affecting the strategy implementation process in Polish higher education institutions. Findings: The authors of the article have decided to reconsider the subject of the effectiveness of strategy implementation in higher education institutions, focusing in particular on the critical factors affecting the effective implementation of a strategy in a higher education institution. Originality/value: The paper specifies 113 factors affecting the strategy implementation process in Polish higher education institutions.

Purpose: This study aims at presenting a set of factors influencing the process of strategy implementation in Polish higher schools. Approach: The pilot studies were carried out in higher schools based in Wrocław. 70% of public and non-public universities were analysed. A questionnaire was selected as the research method. On the basis of the results obtained, the authors offer some postulates and recommendations. Findings: The survey shows that in the analysed (public and non-public) higher schools, it is possible to specify groups of factors which, in the opinion of the respondents, are common for both types of higher schools and which have a significant (key) impact on the process of strategy implementation. The analysis of the results also allows specifying the factors differentiating both types of higher education institutions. Value: 70% of public and non-public higher schools were analysed.

Purpose: The aim of the study has been to identify factors being a barrier to the implementation of strategic management in small and medium-sized enterprises. Design/methodology/approach: The basic sources of the information analysed are: the results of the survey questionnaire, in-depth interview and expert review. Findings: Based on the research performed in the northern part of Poland, it can be argued that in transport enterprises of the SME sector, there are only single elements of strategic management the entrepreneurs are often not aware of. Research limitations/implications: In the future, it is suggested to perform similar research on the presented topics. However, these tests should be done on the example of another industry. In 2020, it is planned to carry out research among enterprises in the printing industry. Practical implications: The SMEs owners should keep on searching for the sources of the emerging barriers to strategic management application and make attempts at applying such instruments which will facilitate eliminating or reducing those barriers considerably. Originality/value: A response to breaking the barriers not allowing for the implementation of strategic thinking in SMEs is also adapting the right IT tool, which is possible with a specific ERP class system function.

Wprowadzenie zarządzania strategicznego w obszar planowania zakupów i gospodarowania taborem kolejowym jest kluczowym czynnikiem mającym na celu osiągnięcie wysokiej efektywności inwestycji i obniżki kosztów działalności przewoźników kolejowych. Nabycie taboru kolejowego jest wieloetapowym procesem począwszy od sformułowania celów strategicznych przez studia wykonalności, przygotowanie dokumentacji, wdrożenie taboru do eksploatacji aż do procedur monitorowania tego procesu i jego oceny. Projekt Innowacyjny i zestandaryzowany model rozwoju zakupu kolejowego taboru pasażerskiego „Innorail” sfinansowany przez NCBR dostarcza narzędzi dla optymalizacji procesów inwestycyjnych w zarządzaniu taborem kolejowym. Artykuł przedstawia uwarunkowania zewnętrzne i wewnętrzne występujące w procesie przygotowania przez przewoźników strategii w zakresie taboru kolejowego.

The implementation of strategic management into the area of purchasing planning and rolling stock management is a key factor aimed at achieving high investment efficiency and reducing the operating costs of railway carriers. The purchase of rolling stock is a multi-stage process, starting from the formulation of strategic goals, through feasibility studies, preparation of documentation, rolling stock implementation, to the procedures for monitoring this process and its evaluation. Completed project “An innovative and standardised model for the development of the purchase of passenger railway rolling stock "Innorail" financed by the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) provides tools for optimising investment processes in the management of railway rolling stock. The article presents the external and internal conditions in the preparation of the railway rolling stock strategy by carriers.
