W artykułach (1-4) dokonano przeglądu literatury dotyczącej zasobów i odzysku makulatury w skali globalnej, w krajach europejskich zrzeszonych w organizacji CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries) oraz w Polsce. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ocena systemu pozysku makulatury przez przemysł papierniczy w Polsce.

Value of country-scale wastepaper recovered for paper industry is a function of wastepaper recovery, balance of import and export and consumption of this material by paper industry. paper recovery in Poland has increased from 717 thousand metric ton in 1999 to 1574 thousand metric ton in 2009. This means that the increase was more than double.Import-export balance has been increasing systematically during the last decade, reaching value of 0,5 million metric ton in 2009. Due to extension of wastepaper processing capacity by domestic paper industry, this value has decreased to 0,3 million metric ton in 2009. It is predicted that the downward tendency will be kept, and in the following years Poland will become importer of wastepaper. presently, paper industry is the only one mass-scale porchaser of recovered wastepaper. No other industry branches are currently interested in processing of this raw material. Domestic paper industry consumed 1,269 millions metric ton of wastepaper in 2009. this is 81% of total recovered wastepaper. Due to export of inferior quality grades of waste paper, grade structure of processed wastepaper has been improved. It may be predicted, that rapid growth of paper consumption and constant increased of wastepaper recovery, will provide increasing amount of wastepaper available for processing in paper industry.
