The publication presents the construction of the station for testing the friction coefficient under high pressure and low slip velocity values. These conditions of cooperation of friction pairs occur in the drives of transport machines such as belt conveyors and suspended monorails. The value of the friction coefficient, depending on the operating conditions such as moisture and rock or coal dust pollution, has a significant impact on the correct and efficient operation of such drives. The features of the station allow mapping the operating conditions on a laboratory scale. As part of the research, appropriate friction samples made of rubber or polyurethane were prepared. Referring to the conditions of conveyor operation and conditions of contact of the conveyor belt with the drive drum, the values of unit pressures and values of slip speed occurring in the drum drive of the belt conveyor were determined. A series of laboratory tests were carried out for the friction pair rubber drum lining – conveyor belt cover. The tests were carried out for four different states of friction vapor surfaces, namely for dry and wet samples, as well as for samples in clean or contaminated with stone dust. As a result of the tests, the values of friction coefficients for various surface states were determined, which will be valuable information for designers of friction drive systems of transport devices.

Pierwsze zastosowanie silnika spalinowego do napędu maszyn transportowych w wyrobiskach podziemnych miało miejsce w kopalniach zachodniej Europy (Wielka Brytania, Niemcy). Rozwój spalinowych maszyn transportowych w polskich kopalniach zapoczątkowany został pracami badawczo-rozwojowymi realizowanymi w ITG KOMAG. Prace te zaowocowały powstaniem w latach sześćdziesiątych kopalnianego ciągnika spalinowego KCS KOCUR. W wyniku prowadzenia kolejnych prac powstała lokomotywa Lds-70, a następnie Lds-100. Zalety napędu spalinowego, jakimi są: mobilność, zasięg, duża siła pociągowa oraz swoboda prowadzenia prac transportowych, zdecydowały, że był to napęd wielu innowacyjnych maszyn transportowych opracowanych w ITG KOMAG, takich jak: lokomotywa Lds-100K-EMA, PIOMA LDS 80, LZS-150, lokomotywa do kolei podwieszonej Lps-80, LPS-90 kolei zębatej spągowej PIOMA-VACAT.

Diesel engine was used for the first time to drive transportation machines in mine undergrounds in Western European countries (Great Britain, Germany). Development of diesel transportation machines in Polish mines started with R&D projects realized by KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology. KCS KOCUR diesel mine hauler designed in 1960-ties was the first result of these projects. Further projects resulted in development of Lds-70 and Lds-100 diesel locomotives. The following advantages of diesel drives such as: mobility, long distance range, high pulling force as well as easy transporting operations caused that this drive was used in designs of many innovative transportation machines developed in KOMAG, such as: Lds-100K-EMA, PIOMA LDS 80, LZS-150 locomotives, locomotives for Lps-80, LPS-90 suspended monorail and PIOMA-VACAT floor-mounted railway.

Omówiono wymagania w zakresie bezpiecznego stosowania napędów elektrycznych, zasilanych akumulatorami, do górniczych maszyn transportowych. Przedstawiono wyniki prac Instytutu KOMAG w zakresie innowacyjnych maszyn transportowych z napędem elektrycznym, z silnikami z magnesami trwałymi, zasilanymi z baterii akumulatorów polimerowo-jonowych, przeznaczonych do kopalń węgla kamiennego. Wskazano na możliwości implementacji opracowanych napędów do maszyn transportowych stosowanych w górnictwie rud miedzi.

Requirements for safe use of battery powered electric drives of mine transportation machines are discussed in the paper. Innovative solutions of machines equipped with permanent magnet electric motor powered by li-ion battery, used in coal mines, designed in the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology, are presented. Possibilities of implementing these solutions for the machines operating in copper ore mining industry are indicated.

Intensive development of state-of-the-art batteries contributed to development of electric driver supplied from battery pack. Battery drives play more and more significant role not only in automotive industry but also in the mining industry in underground mining workings. Currently used drive systems of transportation machines are presented in the paper. Special attention is paid to advantages and disadvantages of different types of drives. Design of state-of-the-art battery drive of PCA-1 suspended drivetrain is presented.
