On the basis of viscoelastic theory of textile material, the viscoelastic solid model consisting of a spring element and viscous element either in series or parallel is one of the most useful research models to study the mechanical behaviour of fabrics. This paper presents a method to study the bending behaviour of wool/polyester fabrics using a model consisting of the three-element model in parallel with a sliding element on the assumption that the internal frictional moment is a constant during the bending processes. From the needs of practical study, a testing method has been presented to study the bending behaviour of wool/polyester fabrics using a KES-FB3 compression tester. A comparison and analysis of the experimental results and theoretical predictions indicate that the agreement between them is satisfactory.

This paper investigated the wicking and drying behaviour of polyester woven fabrics. The effects of yarn type, weft density, weave structure, thickness and air permeability were evaluated by the application of vertical wicking, transfer wicking and drying tests. Correlation analysis and two sided independent t-tests of the data obtained from experiments and the evaluations reveal that the texturizing process - the alteration of the arrangement and packing of yarns by changing the weft density and weave type, are influential with respect to the wicking performance. Moreover the drying behaviour is influenced by the thickness of the fabric, air permeability and yarn type used in the fabric.

W pracy badano zwilżanie (efekt kapilarny) i suszenie tkanin poliestrowych. Badano wpływ typu włókna, gęstość wątku, rodzaj splotu, grubość i przepuszczalność powietrza. Wykonano analizę korelacji i dwustronny t-test.

Hydrophilisation of polyester textile materials has been investigated over the last twenty years using low-pressure and atmospheric plasmas. According to these studies, wettability and capillarity of fabrics can be significantly improved depending on the process gas used. In the present study , the effect s of low pressure O 2 - and NH 3 - plasma on the morphology and topometry of fabrics on four different length scales, as well as the influence of the topographical changes of textile structures on the resulting water spreading and absorption rates were investigated. The results of the topographic characterisation using two non-contact optical methods and wettability measurements indicate that the modification of filament nano-topography cannot satisfactorily explain the drastic changes observed in wett ability . Dimensional changes (relaxation and shrinkage) as well as changes in warp morphology and inter-yarn spaces are more decisive for inducing hydrophilicity in polyester woven plain fabrics than an increase in the surface nano-roughness of their filaments.
