SAP ERP software as a tool for managing the logistics subsystems of an enterprise

Purpose: The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the capabilities of SAP ERP software in managing an organization's logistics subsystem, identify the main strengths and weaknesses of SAP ERP software in an organization, and identify the information requirements associated with identifying logistics activities. Design/methodology/approach: In preparing the article, the author used both theoretical and empirical research methods, particularly analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, comparison, generalization, as well as scientific observation with casual observation technique. The qualitative methods mentioned above were used to analyze the literature on the subject. Analysis was used to deepen knowledge in the area of the issues under study, as well as to identify their interrelationships and the relationships that exist between them. Deduction, for the process of inferring the particular from the general. Induction was used during observation. Comparison was mainly used to identify similarities and differences in the use of SAP ERP software in the various logistics subsystems. Inference was used to develop conclusions, included at the end of this article. Using the aforementioned methods, it was possible to evaluate the functionality of SAP ERP software in the management of the enterprise's logistics subsystems, to identify the main advantages and disadvantages of SAP ERP software in the enterprise, and to identify the information needs related to logistics activities in the enterprise. Findings: Modern enterprises operate in a highly competitive environment, so they need to quickly adapt to changes occurring in their environment: near and far. This is possible thanks to the implementation of modern tools, methods or techniques that enable continuous management of all departments of the enterprise, including logistics system. Originality/value: This article is addressed to theoreticians and practitioners of business management. Theoreticians reading this article will find a sentiment of current data on SAP ERP software and the scale of possibilities for its use. Practitioners, in turn, will find useful tips on where SAP ERP software can be implemented or how to improve the form of its use in an enterprise.

This article presents selected aspects of the existing land infrastructure system in Vietnam that are important for cross-border transport. The aim of this paper is to present the results of the first phase of the study, which includes the analysis of the condition of the logistics infrastructure that supports the processes of international trade in goods. This phase includes the identification and initial assessment of the usefulness of the components of the logistics system in terms of its functionality and economic efficiency. The results define the scope of work necessary for the proper preparation of the logistics system in Vietnam for the needs related to ensuring the desirable efficiency of logistics corridors connecting Vietnam with China and neighboring regional markets of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Jednym z kluczowych obszarów bezpieczeństwa państwa jest bezpieczeństwo militarne. Jego zapewnienie wymaga szeregu różnorodnych działań o charakterze polityczno-militarnym, wśród których istotna rola przypada zdolności w obszarze państwa-gospodarza (HNS) dla przemieszczania sił i środków wojsk sojuszniczych na terytorium kraju. Wypełnienie zadań wynikających z obowiązków HNS jest istotne z punktu widzenia obronności kraju, ale także jego postrzegania na arenie międzynarodowej. Jedną z ważniejszych w tym zakresie kwestii jest udostępnianie rejonów oraz infrastruktury na potrzeby ześrodkowania i zakwaterowania wojsk, co jest realizowane w oparciu o szereg inwestycji infrastrukturalnych. Z perspektywy współczesnych uwarunkowań rozbudowa i utrzymanie właściwej infrastruktury transportowej wszystkich gałęzi transportu jest niezbędna dla zapewnienia wymaganych warunków przemieszczania się osób oraz przewozu uzbrojenia i sprzętu wojskowego, wparcia wojsk sojuszniczych, w przypadku kryzysu lub wojny. Nowoczesna infrastruktura transportowa, umożliwia rozwój polskiej gospodarki i wzmacnia jej powiązanie z gospodarką światową. Jest także ważnym składnikiem bezpieczeństwa narodowego, systemu obronnego państwa oraz terytorialnie zrównoważonego rozwoju kraju. Systematyczna poprawa infrastruktury transportowej stanowi jedno z podstawowych wyzwań dla rozwoju państwa nie tylko z perspektywy gospodarczej, ale także odgrywa priorytetową rolę w odniesieniu do bezpieczeństwa i obronności państwa.

One of the key areas of state security is military security. Its provision requires a number of various activities of a political and military nature, among which an important role is played by host nation support (HNS) for improving ability to move allied forces and resources within the territory of the country. Fulfilling the tasks resulting from the HNS obligations is important because of the country’s defense aspects and the perception of the country on the international arena. One of the most important issues in this respect is making the regions and infrastructure available for the pand accommodation of troops, which is implemented based on a number of infrastructure investments. From the perspective of contemporary conditions, the expansion of transport networks of all modes of transport is necessary to ensure the required conditions for the movement of people and the transport of weapons and military equipment, support the allied forces in the event of a crisis or war. A modern transport infrastructure enables the development of the Polish economy and strengthens its link with the world economy. It is also an important component of national security, the state defence system and territorially balanced development of the country. Modern transport infrastructure modernized rolling stock and integral transport management systems reduce costs in the economy, while contributing to lowering the pressure on the environment. Systematic improvement of transport infrastructure is one of the basic challenges for the development of the state, not only from the economic perspective, but also plays a priority role in relation to the state’s security and defence.

Purpose: The article aims to formulate basic assumptions defining the resilience of complex systems falling within social logistics' scope of interest. The article emphasizes the importance of general systems theory for the contemporary understanding of management sciences, with particular emphasis on logistics. The authors of the article have also characterized, based on the current state of literature, the concept of social logistics as one of the three "clean" types of logistics, positioning it alongside military and economic logistics Design/methodology/approach: The article presents an overview of approaches to the crystallizing issue of social logistics in literature. The analyzed object of research was referred to the general theory of systems and conclusions were drawn in the form of proposals to shape the social logistics system. In addition, the authors presented an original proposal for the composition of the social logistics system based on observation of the activities of social entities and in-depth analysis of Polish and foreign literature. Findings: Then it was proposed to consolidate the term 'social logistics system resilience' and to conduct empirical research along with an outline of the research procedure. The proposed research procedure will be used and the results of research conducted in accordance with it – described in subsequent articles of the authors. Social implications: In the article, it was concluded that the subject of the study is relatively broad, and the link between the topic of social logistics and supply chain resilience is a research gap that will be filled by series of articles, the starting link of which is this one. The analyzes contained in the article refer to a large extent to the problems of comfort in social life, with particular emphasis on human needs of a social nature. Originality/value The originality of the article express in compiling the issues of social logistics with issues of systems’ resilience. In the face of the constantly observed negative phenomena disrupting the functioning of social logistics systems, the topic of their resilience is of particular importance.

Rozważono możliwości rozszerzenia sfer wpływów Grupy Wyszehradzkiej w ramach programu rozwoju międzynarodowych centrów logistycznych w Polsce, poprzez stopniową integrację infrastruktury kolejowej Polski i Ukrainy. Przeanalizowano geopolityczny oraz infrastrukturalny potencjał sieci kolejowej Ukrainy.

The article analyses global logistics problems caused by quarantine activities related to COVID-19 coronavirus. Vectors were presented to solve global and local problems of the Polish transport and logistics market. The possibilities of expanding the influence sphere of the Visegrad Group under the international logistics centers development program through the gradual integration of the Poland and Ukraine railway infrastructure. The geopolitical and infrastructural potential of Ukraine's railway network was analysed.

The article presents rail transport as an element of the Polish logistics system. Firstly, it presents basic information about rail transport such as rail’s infrastructure, main companies responsible for the organization of transport and transport capability of the Polish State Railways. Secondly, the paper indicates the market of goods and services, main transport corridors and intermodal transport with the use of rail transport in Poland. Furthermore, based on the conducted research, selected problems of the Polish railways were described. The Article is finished by a propose the directions for the development of rail transport.

The variety of types of modern organizations and the perception of the importance of logistics in their functioning also contribute to diversifying the importance and the essence of logistics. Modern logistics can be treated as a specific scope of scientific research and economic practice including planning, implementation and control of the flow processes of material and information goods as well as provision of services in connection with the implementation of these flows. Logistics in surroundings of civil and military organizations, its scientific and interdisciplinary character, needs of practical multi-variability and multidimensionality in social and economic life as well as function of guarantying security of existence and profits to national economy are the contents of this article. The reason for its elaboration was to find the basis and conditions for ascertaining the uniformity scope of elaboration topic concerning selected aspects of logistic systems modernity, its various relations with interdisciplinary branches of knowledge, role of multidimensionality in development of logistics.

City logistics is a tool to effectively solve various problems related to the functioning of urban agglomerations. Increasing transport, organizational and social problems confirm the need for continuous development of city logistics. New ideas arising in this respect should be based on innovative technologies that will properly improve the management of the city logistics system, while ensuring sustainable development of transport. The aim of the article is to analyze city logistics as an element improving the management of city logistics system. The research problem was formulated in the form of a question: What solutions (concepts of actions) can improve the operation of the city logistics system? In order to explain this research problem, the analysis of available publications was undertaken.

The aim of the article is to present selected aspects describing the state of waste management in the Silesian Voivodeship, in particular information on the amount of waste generated and regional infrastructure enabling collection and processing as well as waste management. The article is complemented by information about the circular economy, which is a new look at the problem of waste utilization.

This is the second part of an article concerning allsafe products (first is available in TT 1/2018, pp. 71–86) – it focuses on the planning role in the supply chain and the mechanisms that need to be taken into account during the process of the road transportation. Furthermore, the paper presents the results of an investigation that relates to the proper functioning of the supply chain in the distribution of 12,000 [kg] of strawberries. A weighted average method was used in reference to an analysis of load securing based on the products of three producers with the aim of indicating the safest and most modern way to secure the load in a semi-trailer. Rules of proper load placement and restraint inside the semi-trailer are also addressed, together with a loading plan associated with the analysis of the technical parameters of a semi-trailer and load securing systems.

W drugiej części prezentowanego opracowania (pierwsza dostępna jest w numerze TT 1/2018, s. 71–86) zwrócono uwagę na rolę prawidłowego przebiegu planistycznego łańcucha dostaw analizowanego ładunku w funkcjonowaniu nowoczesnego transportu drogowego. Przedstawiono mechanizmy, jakie muszą być uwzględnione przy organizacji takiego specjalnego przewozu towaru. Zaprezentowano efekty związane z prawidłowym przebiegiem łańcucha dostaw przewozu 12 000 [kg] truskawek. Zastosowano metodę wagową (średniej ważonej), analizując systemy zabezpieczenia ładunków trzech producentów i określając najbezpieczniejszy i najnowocześniejszy sposób zabezpieczenia ładunku w nowoczesnej naczepie ciężarowej dla analizowanego ładunku. Opisano również zasady prawidłowego umieszczenia i zabezpieczenia ładunku na części przewozowej (towarowej) na naczepie drogowej oraz kompleksowy plan załadunku związany z analizą parametrów technicznych dla naczepy ciężarowej oraz systemów zabezpieczenia ładunków.

The present article constitutes an attempt to present the issues of an indicative assessment of logistics systems. In the aspect of these activities, the author’s tool: Logistics Audit 9A was presented in this article. It complements those indicative assessment tools of logistics enterprises that are commonly used in practice. Practical tests of the indicative assessment of logistics systems according to Logistics Audit 9A methodology were conducted on the example of three enterprises that function in one sector and which, over the period of three years, implemented different logistics solutions. The results of the study are presented in the chapter that includes an example of logistics system assessment.

Several organisational changes were made in the Polish Armed Forces during last years. These changes were due to the need of the armed forces potential adaptation for the new conditions and challenges. Poland’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the European Union (EU) imposed the implementation of new command and control procedures. It was also crucial to fulfil particular standards, inter alia in the matter of training, troops’ combat potential and logistic potential in the frame of territorial logistic support system based on Logistic Regional Bases (LRB) and Garrison Logistic Units (GLU).

Opakowanie to wyrób do przechowywania i prezentacji wszelkiego typu towarów. Jego zasadniczym przeznaczeniem jest ochrona przed uszkodzeniem i działaniem czynników zewnętrznych. Aktualnie przedsiębiorstwa uczestniczące w systemach logistycznych (w szczególności z sektora spożywczego) wykorzystuję nowy rodzaj opakowań, które rozszerzają zakres ich funkcji. Inteligentne opakowania wchodzą w interakcje z przechowywanym towarem, co też podnosi ich użyteczność. Celem artykułu było przedstawienie roli inteligentnych opakowań w systemach logistycznych. Oprócz teoretycznego przeglądu wskazanej problematyki opracowano model wdrożeniowy opakowań inteligentnych w działalności logistycznej.

Packaging is a product for the storage and presentation of all types of goods. Companies participating in logistics systems use a new type of packaging that extends the scope of their functions. Intelligent packaging interacts with the stored goods, which also increases their usability. The purpose of the article was to present the role of intelligent packaging in logistic systems. In addition to the theoretical review of the indicated issues, a smart packaging implementation model was developed in logistics activities.

W artykule dokonano oceny stopnia komplementarności systemów logistycznych w gospodarce narodowej i resorcie obrony narodowej. Przedstawiono różne kryteria ich podziału oraz pokazano podobieństwa i różnice głównie w ujęciu funkcjonalnym, przedmiotowym, instytucjonalnym, strukturalnym, fazowym i decyzyjnym.

For institutions responsible for improving the efficiency of civil and military logistics, check-ing the degree of complementarity of logistic systems in economic and military systems is important from the point of view of dual-use technology. The article evaluates the degree of complementarity of logistic systems in the national economy and the Ministry of National Defense. Different criteria for their division are presented and similarities and differences are shown mainly in functional, objective, institutional, structural, phase and decision-making terms.

Poszukiwanie kierunków rozwoju logistyki w środowisku polskich teoretyków i praktyków nie jest często podejmowanym tematem badań, a jest on istotny z punktu widzenia potrzeb badawczych młodych naukowców, szczególnie tych którzy podejmują studia doktoranckie i stają przed dylematem wyboru tematu rozprawy doktorskiej związanego z logistyką. W ocenie autora określenie kierunków rozwoju logistyki w Polsce i identyfikacja ich determinant można uznać za istotny cel badań. The search for directions of logistician's development in the environment of Polish theoreticians and practitioners is not often the subject of research, and it is important from the point of view of research needs of young scientists, especially those who undertake doctoral studies and face the dilemma of choosing the topic of the doctoral dissertation related to logistics. Thus, there is a problem situation that allowed to identify the scientific research problem: What are the directions of development of logistics in Poland? The same aim of the research was to determine the directions of development of logistics in Poland and to identify their determinants. The article presents the results of research obtained on the basis of a system approach to logistics, using the ideographic model as a basis for analyzing and evaluating phenomena, and, consequently, for specifying the directions of development of logistics in Poland.

W ostatnich latach diametralnie wzrosło nie tylko znaczenie opakowań w systemach i procesach logistycznych, ale opakowania stały się wiedzą, technologią i sztuką przemieszczania towarów i ich sprzedaży. Mają na celu nie tylko ochronę produktu przed otoczeniem oraz otoczenie przed zawartością opakowania, ale również wszechstronne poinformowanie i nie tylko użytkownika o jego zawartości. Nie bez znaczenia w zakresie planowania, wyboru surowca i samej produkcji opakowania, stał się czynnik ekonomiczny i ekologiczny, które to czynniki będą odgrywały coraz to większa rolę. Wraz ze wzrostem znaczenia handlu samoobsługowego i internetowego opakowanie produktu stanowi istotny element z punktu widzenia marketingu mix. Stanowi reklamę produktu i ma na celu w sposób bezpośredni zachęcać do jego zakupu. Istnieje bardzo wiele determinant wpływających na dobór optymalnego rodzaju opakowania. Te podstawowe determinanty zostały przedstawione i opisane w prezentowanym artykule. Należy do nich zaliczyć przede wszystkim właściwości produktu, docelową grupę odbiorców, masowość produkcji czy też wyniki przeprowadzonych badań rynkowych. Dobór odpowiedniego opakowania, spełniającego szereg funkcji nie tylko logistycznych szczególnie dla przedsiębiorcy ma na celu maksymalizację jego przychodów ze sprzedaży. Bywa też i tak, że podniesienie finalnej ceny produktu poprzez szlachetność opakowania zwiększa jego sprzedaż. Dlatego też ekonomiczne postrzeganie współczesnych opakowań ma swoją szczególną wielowymiarowość.

Through the last few years has immediately grown up the meaning of the packaging in the logistical systems. They must protect not only products from the enviroment and the enviroment from themselves or inform their users about their content. With the development of self – service retail and e-commerce, packages of products have become very important part of the marketing-mix. Packages are the advertisments of products. Their aim is to encourage customers to purchase. There are many reasons which have big influence on the choice of the optimum kind of package. The most popular of them are properties of products, target group or results of market’s research results. Selection of suitable package is used to maximize revenue even if the price must be on the higher level.
