Durability of a significant part of critical elements of thermo-mechanical equipments of power units for many years is not limited by the time of operation, but by the intensity of the regulatory mode of operation and the quality of operation and repairs. Using the available test methods and diagnostic systems as well as computational methods, including those based on FEM modeling and fracture mechanics criteria, it is possible to determine the reserve durability of critical elements with sufficient accuracy for practice, also when their operation in conditional mode.

Continuing operation of 200 MW class units currently has no rational alternative. It gives hope to cover the projected negative power balance in the Polish power system after 2025 and may ensure a significant increase in generation from RES sources, safe for the National Power System. Meeting this challenge requires an urgent development of a strategy for the operation of 200 MW units, including in particular maintaining the technical condition at a level ensuring safety and availability, taking into account the increasingly regulatory nature of their operation, in the perspective of approx. 2035. The presented strategy proposal concerns 200 MW class units with the possibility of using some of its components on units/main thermo-mechanical devices, operated with the same or similar operating parameters and made with the use of the same/similar materials and technologies.
Solar energy has become one of the most important renewable energies in the world. With the increasing installation of power plants in the world, the supervision and diagnosis of photovoltaic systems have become an important challenge with the increased occurrence of various internal and external faults. Indeed, this work proposes a new solar power plant diagnosis based on the artificial neural network approach. The developed model was to improve the performance and reliability of the power plant located in Tamanrasset, Algeria, which is subjected to varying weather conditions in terms of radiation and ambient temperature. By using the real data collected from the studied system, this approach allow to increase electricity production and address any issues that may arise quickly, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for the region. Neural networks have shown interesting results with high accuracy. This fault diagnosis approach allows to determine the time of occurrence of a fault affecting the examined PV system. Also, allow an early detection of failures and degradation of the system, which contributes to improving the productivity of this photovoltaic installation. With a significant reduction in the time needed to repair the damage caused by these faults and improve the reliability and continuity of the electrical energy production service.

The paper proposes an original, comprehensive, and methodically consistent graph theory-based approach to the description of the diagnosed process and the diagnosing system. The main baseline of the presented approach is in the dichotomous approach to diagnosing. It involves a separate description of both the process and the diagnostic system. This approach reflects the practice of designing implementable diagnostic systems. Thus, it can be seen as a proposal of a new, alternative, and, at the same time, flexible design procedure with great potential for applications. The primary motivation behind it was an attempt to circumvent the numerous limitations of well-known and well-established diagnosis approaches proposed by the communities working on fault detection and isolation (FDI) and artificial intelligence theories for diagnosis (DX). Accordingly, the paper identifies and provides an extensive discussion and a critical analysis of the existing limitations. Numerous examples and references to practical applications of the approach are indicated.
Currently, in transport systems, as part of the main and auxiliary equipment, a large number of induction motors with a squirrel-cage rotor of different capacities are used. Their wide application in the transport industry is associated with the main advantages over other types of machines – a fairly high reliability, low cost and ease of maintenance. However, during the operation of these motors, a number of malfunctions can occur that affect the deterioration of the performance of the entire drive, the accuracy of its functions, or accelerate an emergency stop. To ensure proper control of the technical condition of electric motors, modern diagnostic systems are required that operate in real-time and operational loading mode with the transmission of data on the instantaneous state of the main control elements. The paper proposes a block diagram of the diagnostic built-in system and developed a modular unit for it to set the type and degree of the most complex damage - inter-turn short circuit in the stator winding.

Lung cancer is a disease caused by the involuntary increase of cells in the lung tissue. Early detection of cancerous cells is of vital importance in the lungs providing oxygen to the human body and excretion of carbon dioxide in the body as a result of vital activities. In this study, the detection of lung cancers is realized using LeNet, AlexNet and VGG-16 deep learning models. The experiments were carried out on an open dataset composed of Computed Tomography (CT) images. In the experiment, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) were used for feature extraction and classification purposes. In order to increase the success rate of the classification, the image augmentation techniques, such as cutting, zooming, horizontal turning and filling, were applied to the dataset during the training of the models. Because of the outstanding success of AlexNet model, the features obtained from the last fully-connected layer of the model were separately applied as the input to linear regression (LR), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), decision tree (DT), support vector ma-chine (SVM), k -nearest neighbor (kNN) and softmax classifiers. A combination of AlexNet model and k NN classifier achieved the most efficient classification accuracy as 98.74 %. Then, the minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR) feature selection method was applied to the deep feature set to choose the most efficient features. Consequently, the success rate was yielded as 99.51 % by reclassifying the dataset with the selected features and k NN model. The proposed model is consistent diagnosis model for lung cancer detection using chest CT images.
The article describes standard safety-protection layers according to EN 61511 standard. Their aim is to reduce risk, thus to decrease the frequency of occurrence of threatening incidents and/or consequences of such incidents.
On the present there is very intensively emphasized the environmental protection, which is also connected with reduction of emissions produced by the vehicles. The actual European emission standard EURO 6 will be replaced very soon with the new and even stricter standard EURO 7. There is a well-known fact that the new regulations are demanding with regard to the NOX emissions. However, there is at disposal a suitable technical solution, namely in the form of an innovative engine technology, which is called the HCCI. A principle of this technology consists in a self-ignition of the homogenous air-fuel mixture using the compression process. Combustion of the mixture is performed in the whole compression volume without a spark ignition, whereby the NOX emission level is almost negligible. However, this technology is also characterised by several serious problems, for example there is occurring a complication concerning control of the self-ignition phenomenon. The presented article introduces an original diagnostic system, which enables to control the whole self-ignition system and in this way to ensure a reliable operation of the HCCI engine. This system is patented now as well as it was tested in an experimental vehicle built for the international competition “shell eco marathon”.

The transport safety is a property of the transport process (movement of individuals and/or goods), characterized by absence of danger to life and health of individuals [1,2,10]. This process should represent a high reliability and safety. The measure of safety is certainty that components of the transport process will remain intact during operation, except for natural changes due to ageing and wear. To ensure a sufficient safety level, it is vital to employ the electronic transport systems which aim is to increase the safety of transferred individuals and goods. The electronic transport systems are designed to detect the threats that occur during the transport process (for both stationary and moving objects). This article presents influence of the electromagnetic interferences within vast railway area on the electronic transport systems with one transmission bus. These electromagnetic interferences are able to completely compromise the electronic system, induce the voltage in the transmission buses or in other components of the system and trigger the alarm (higher probability of false alarm). While operating the transport safety system, full spectrum of electromagnetic interferences should be taken into account. Due to complex behavior of the electromagnetic waves during penetration (propagation), influence of the electromagnetic interferences requires separate analyzes for different frequency bands.
The following paper presents the problem of classification (identification) elements in the internal structure of a technical object. This problem is directly linked with diagnostics and compilation of an expert data base. The basis of a process of grouping elements into classes is to make a diagnostic model of a given object in a form of a structure or set of basic elements of an object. In order to conduct the grouping of elements into subsets of s-th classes, the following paper compiles and presents analytical formulas and classification rules. Theoretical considerations presented in this paper are also verified using an engine control system as an example of a complex technical object.

The paper presents semi-Markov models of technical state transitions for diesel engines, useful for determination of their reliability, as a result of the conducted statistical empirical studies. Interpretation of technical states provided for this sort of engines refers to ship main engines, i.e. engines employed in propulsion systems of sea-going ships. The considerations recognize diesel engine as a diagnosed system (SDN), of which state can be identified by a diagnosing system (SDG). Both of the systems: SDN and SDG compose a diagnostic system (SD). Examples of three-state semi-Markov models were applied to demonstrate that in case of use of proper diagnosing systems (SDG) for identification of technical states of such engines as SDN, by classification of the states to the relevant class of the reference states, it is possible to make use of a Markov model to determine reliability of the engines. For developing a Markov model of state transitions for the engines, there were applied functions of the risk of damage: λ12 that causes transition from state s1 to state s2, and λ13 that causes transition from state s1 to state s3, as well as intensity functions of recovery (restitution): λ21 that causes transition from state s2 to state s1, and λ31 that causes transition from state s3 to state s1.
