Development of democracy and civil society connected with contemporary information technology and communications, increase in activities of social movements for protecting the rights of different groups - these are the reasons that enterprises are forced to verify the view on the profit maximization as the only aim of business activity. The belief that companies should participate in eliminating the civilization threats to which they contribute, becomes widely spread. This involves taking responsibility for the quality of life for present and future generations. The legitimacy of such requests is mainly due to the scale and scope of business activities within the supply chains and the impact they have on local communities’ life, the environment and the progress of civilization. The concept of triple bottom line (TBL) – one of the fundament of social business responsibility, is based on finding a balance between three dimensions - economy, ecology and ethics. TBL concept results from the paradigm of the sustainable development discussed in this article from the axiological and quality point of view. The subject of considerations will be sustainable development and its impact on logistics management.

Koncepcja łańcucha dostaw jako rodzaju systemu logistycznego wynika z nawiązywania relacji współpracy pomiędzy dostawcami produktów i ich odbiorców oraz całego grona instytucji i firm wspomagających fizyczny przepływ produktów. Systemy te ewoluują zgodnie z nowymi paradygmatami biznesu, które w trudnej rzeczywistości gospodarczej coraz częściej oscylują wokół zagadnień zrównoważonego rozwoju i pochodnych. Stąd systemy logistyczne, stanowiące rdzeń łańcuchów dostaw, w coraz większym stopniu muszą poddawać się regulacjom wynikającym z koncepcji społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu, a także zrównoważonego i społecznie odpowiedzialnego łańcucha dostaw. Praktyczne rozwiązania w tym zakresie znajdują się jeszcze w stanie początkowego rozwoju.

Concept of supply chain as a kind of logistics system results from collaborative relationships between suppliers of products and their customers and the whole range of institutions and companies supporting physical flow of goods. Those systems change according to new paradigms of business, which in a difficult economic reality more often concentrate on problems of sustainable development and similar concepts. Due to that fact, logistics systems being the core of supply chains, have to be subjected to regulations resulting from the concept of corporate social responsibility as well as sustainable and socially responsible supply chain. Practical solutions in that area seem to be still in the stage of initial development.
