This paper aims to provide a performance measurement system for the automotive spare parts supply chain. We focus on an independent distributor belonging to an independent channel. The framework encompasses different performance aspects for a high supply chain visibility, as well as the required categories, subcategories and key performance indicators for the automotive spare parts supply chain performance measurement. The framework is the first contribution that advances the performance measurement in the automotive aftermarket and allows assessing the performance of the automotive spare parts supply chain as a whole.

Purpose: The main purpose of this paper was to present the possibility of using IT systems in a production company for managing complaints and the manufacture of spare parts. Design/methodology/approach: The paper presents the legal regulations in force in Poland in the field of complaints under warranty and guarantee. It discusses the rules of the complaint procedure in consumer sales and characterizes product complaints. It also presents the defi- nition of a spare part and its classification and discusses the activities related to the management of pare part availability. Findings: This paper discusses an example of the implementation of an IT system supporting the company's production activities. The author assesses the usefulness of this tool in the imple- mentation of activities related to the production of dedicated spare parts and comprehensive handling of complaints. The functionality of the software is analysed and the conditions and requirements related to the complaint procedure in consumer sales are presented. In addition, the limitations of data exchange and additional expectations of the users of the IT system, which may be the direction of its development, are described. Research limitations/implications: The author has pointed out that an extremely important issue in the complaint procedure is keeping the deadlines both in terms of the feedback that should be given to the consumer and the completion of the contracted production work. Verification of the compatibility of the used spare part with the repaired device is also required. It is vital as the components used are often subject to technological improvement. Practical implications: The paper shows that the method of managing spare part availability affects the handling of complaints. It is also a platform for interference in the course of produ- ction processes of new products. Originality/value: Undoubtedly, the original contribution of the paper to the literature on the subject is the assessment of the suitability of the selected software supporting production acti- vities used in the improvement of the complaint management system.

W artykule przedstawiono wstępne wyniki porównawczych badań wytrzymałościowych i cech antykorozyjnych oryginalnych części nadwozi samochodowych i ich zamienników. Wyniki tych badań pozwalają wnioskować o przydatności niektórych zamienników, a równocześnie mogą być wstępem do wypracowania kryteriów jakościowych dopuszczenia do użytkowania zamienników części nadwozi.

Preliminary results of comparative strength tests and anti-corrosion characteristics of original car body parts and replacements of these parts are presented. The results allow concluding about the suitability of some substitutes, and at the same time may be a prelude to the development of quality criteria for obtaining a certificate for release to service of replacements for body parts.

The presence of the spare parts stock is a necessity to ensure the continuity of services. The supply of spare parts is a special case of the global supply chain. The main objective of our research is to propose a global spare parts management approach which allows decision makers to determine the essential points in stock management. Thus, it is important for the stock manager to evaluate the system considered from time to time based on performance indicators. Some of these indicators are presented in the form of a dashboard. The presentation of this chapter chronologically traces the progress of our research work. In the first part, we present the work related to the forecast of spare parts needs through parametric and statistical methods as well as a Bayesian modelling of demand forecasting. To measure the appreciation of the supply of spare parts inventory, the second part focuses on work related to the evaluation of the performance of the spare parts system. Thus, we concretize the link between the management of spare parts and maintenance in the third part, more precisely, in the performance evaluation of the joint -management of spare parts and maintenance, in order to visualize the influence of parameters on the system. In the last section of this chapter, we will present the metaheuristic methods and their use in the management of spare parts and maintenance and make an analysis on work done in the literature.

The aim of this research was to determine the possibility of applying alternative techniques for the production of prototypes for spare parts in agriculture and to determine the possible directions of development of their applications in the engineering industry. Then, to determine which spare parts could be produced using the FDM technique, comparisons of the most important parameters of spare parts produced independently (using the FDM technique) and obtained from producers (produced using traditional methods in professional factories) were made. A number of factors were analysed, from technical parameters such as machine type, processed material and its consumption including required as support structures, to economic issues such as manufacturing or purchase delivery total time and cost. The FDM technique has proven itself in many ways in the production of spare parts for agricultural machinery.

Reliability of vehicles is characterized not only by the quality of production but also by the quality of subsequent maintenance. In this paper, we consider the possible spare parts logistics risks, as they have a huge influence on vehicles’ maintenance. One of the widespread methods to analyze the reliability of complex systems is Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). To identify and systematize all possible risks in spare parts logistics, we have built the Problem Tree. For managing identified risks, we propose a conceptual scheme of an inteligent system. In the framework of this paper, we describe one of the modules that make up this intelligent system. The proposed software module will help to choose the spare parts’ suppliers taking into account their reliability from the logistical point of view. It was tested with the use of real data from an automotive manufacturer.

The paper presents problems of decision-making for planning and implementation of vehicle service system supplies with spare parts under incomplete information. The lack of effective supply planning models using artificial intelligence principles contributes to widening the gap in the problem. The analyses confirm that information uncertainty is one of the main factors in supply failures leading to financial losses for both vehicle service stations and supply companies. Authors structured national vehicle service system by classifying its three different segments. This allowed the identification of risks of making incorrect logistics decisions in each of defined segments. It has been shown that the supply planning process in each of segments is carried out according to different rules. Authorial decision models for each of segments are then presented. The models can be used as a tool to support and improve supplying vehicle service stations in conditions of information uncertainty. In the application part, a proprietary algorithm has been developed to solve proposed models.

This article raises the issues related to the influence of increased availability of various categories of spare parts in the market on the cost of servicing passenger cars in Poland. The discussion is based on original simulations of the hypothetic cost of repairs involving several categories of spare parts. For the analysis, the authors selected models of vehicles that were demanded the most in Poland in recent years in the segment of brand new and second-hand cars. The purpose of this work is to show the differences in values arising in the case of using separate categories of spare parts in the class of repairs concerned. The presented research may be used to estimate the possible cost of use related to owning a specific model of a vehicle. Furthermore, the research results may be helpful in making purchase decisions by the individual as well as group clients.

The article presents the methodology of controlling stock of spare parts during short-run production of current equipment. A pseudo-random number generator has been developed, whose main task is to estimate the expected value E (Y) of the random variable Y which is the number of exchanges of a spare part of a particular equipment. By means of a Monte Carlo computer simulation, pseudo-random numbers are generated with a uniform distribution from the interval (0.1). These numbers, based on the cumulative distribution inversion method, are transformed into a form of distribution that uniquely determines the optimal size of spare parts.

This article describes the design of a simple forecasting system and its practical application to predict the sporadic needs for a spare part. The article shows new approach already implemented in the special servicing and production company in Slovakia and its results during a short period of performance after its implementation. Such a proposed model can be a part of the purchase planning of spare parts within the company's logistics system. In some companies, the material flow of spare parts is dominant element in terms of logistics costs. Their management is therefore important for cost optimization, customer satisfaction and market sustainability in a competitive environment. The article, in its introductory part, provides an overview of similar practical solutions within the research of this topic, but many models are designed to be applied in a global market environment and predict the amount of spare parts needed in different industries. However, these models are difficult to use for the needs of a small enterprise, because the main problem lies in the time of a spare part demand rather than its quantity. If there is a need for a specific spare part, which costs several hundred or thousands of euros, but the consumption is only a few pieces per year or more than a year, the time prediction of required spare parts is therefore crucial.

The supply chain of spare parts is the intersection between the supply chain, the after-sales and the maintenance services. Some authors have tried to define improvement paths in terms of models to satisfy the performance criteria. In addition, other authors are directed towards the integration of risk management in the demand forecasting and the stock management (performance evaluation) through probabilistic models. Among these models, the probabilistic graphical models are the most used, for example, Bayesian networks and petri nets. Performance evaluation is done through performance indicators. To measure the appreciation of the supply of the spare parts stock, this paper focuses on the performance evaluation of the system by petri nets. This evaluation will be done through an analytical study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze the performance of the system by proposed indicators. First, we present a literature review on Petri nets which is the essential tool in our modeling. Secondly, we present in the third section the analytical study of the model based on bath deterministic and stochastic petri networks. Finally, we present an analysis of the proposed model compared to the existing ones.

Background: The key players in the vehicles' recycling system are disassembling facilities, which manage flows of waste and reusable parts. The focus of the company's business activity lies in stream of reusable parts, which is the most valuable, considering possibilities of selling (economic value) and resources saving (ecologic value). As a result of conducted research problem with demand forecasting was identified, which was affected by the specific domain of business. The major objective of the paper was to present how to support demand forecasting on parts in disassembling facility with the use of predictive markets. Methods: The problem area related to the demand forecasting in the disassembling companies was identified based on the previously conducted research and observations. The desk-research method was used to verify current knowledge on the forecasting methodology. Taking it into account, the predictive markets method was chosen in a specific research problem. Results: In the paper, the idea of predictive markets was presented. What is more, general procedure of its implementation and practical application in supporting decision in disassembling companies were described. Conclusions: Predictive markets which are based on the idea of crowdsourcing, use collective crowd intelligence, supporting many business areas, including automotive industry. The predictive market method was successfully adopted in disassembling facility in order to support decisions on demand forecasting of reusable parts. The main challenge in introducing predictive markets for enterprises application is IT support and that outlines direction for future research.

Wstęp: Kluczowym ogniwem w systemie recyklingu samochodów są stacje demontażu, zarządzające przepływami odpadów oraz części zamiennych. Przedsiębiorstwa te w swojej działalności skoncentrowane są na strumieniu części zamiennych jako że jest on najbardziej wartościowy, mając na uwadze możliwości sprzedaży (wartość ekonomiczna) jak również oszczędzanie zasobów naturalnych (wartość ekologiczna). Zważywszy na wartość przepływu części zamiennych, zidentyfikowano problem związany z prognozowaniem zapotrzebowania, co związane jest z charakterem prowadzonej działalności. Biorąc pod uwagę fakt, że strumień wejściowy samochodów przetwarzanych w przedsiębiorstwie, jest poza jego kontrolą, podjęto próbę wspierania prognozowania zapotrzebowania na części (strumień wyjściowy) za pomocą wykorzystania rynków predykcyjnych. Metody: Na podstawie wcześniej przeprowadzonych badań, zidentyfikowano problem związany z prognozowaniem w stacji demontażu pojazdów. Wykorzystano metodę analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa w celu zbadania istniejących opracowań w zakresie metod prognozowania. Mając na uwadze wyniki badania literatury, wykorzystano metodę rynków predykcyjnych, którą wykorzystano w wybranym obszarze badawczym. Wyniki: W pracy przedstawiono ogólną procedurę dotyczącą wykorzystania i wdrożenia rynków predykcyjnych w procesie wspierania podejmowania decyzji w stacji demontażu pojazdów, w obszarze prognozowania. Wnioski: Rynki predykcyjne, opierające się na idei crowdsourcingu, wykorzystują tzw. "mądrość tłumu", wspierając zróżnicowane obszary działalności biznesowej, w tym również branżę motoryzacyjną. Publikacja może być traktowana jako przewodnik w zakresie użycia rynków predykcyjnych w specyficznym obszarze problemowym, w tym również tak skomplikowanym jak prognozowanie zapotrzebowania na części zamienne w stacji demontażu pojazdów.

Effective and efficient operation of a manufacturing system highly depends on the timely and correct implementation of maintenance operations. One of the most important factors affecting the successful implementation of maintenance operations is the determination of suitable inventory control policies for maintenance spare parts. Effective spare parts inventory management requires the criticality evaluation of spare parts. In this study, a novel spare parts criticality evaluation approach is proposed. First, the evaluation criteria are determined based on literature review and expert opinion and Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the criteria weights. Next, Taguchi loss functions and simulation modeling are employed for the calculation of loss values for the spare parts. Finally, a criticality ranking of the spare parts is obtained based on the weighted loss values which are calculated using criteria weights and loss values. The applicability of the proposed approach was tested by applying it to a spare part criticality evaluation problem faced by a manufacturing company.

Skuteczne i wydajne funkcjonowanie systemu produkcyjnego w dużym stopniu zależy od terminowej i prawidłowej realizacji działań konserwacyjnych. Jednym z najważniejszych czynników wpływających na pomyślną realizację działań konserwacyjnych jest określenie odpowiednich zasad kontroli zapasów części zamiennych do konserwacji. Efektywne zarządzanie zapasami części zamiennych wymaga oceny krytyczności części zamiennych. W niniejszym badaniu, zaproponowano nowe podejście do oceny krytyczności części zamiennych. W pierwszej kolejności, ustalane są kryteria oceny na podstawie przeglądu literatury, a do określenia wagi kryteriów stosuje się analizę ekspercką oraz rozmyty proces hierarchii analitycznej (AHP). Następnie, do obliczania wartości strat dla części zapasowych wykorzystywane są funkcje straty Taguchi i modelowanie symulacyjne. W efekcie, uzyskuje się ranking krytyczności części zapasowych na podstawie wartości ważonych strat, które są obliczane przy użyciu wag kryteriów i wartości strat. Możliwość praktycznego zastosowania proponowanego podejścia zweryfikowano na przykładzie problemu oceny krytyczności części zapasowych w przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym.

New technology comes with benefits for companies that choose to adopt. Additive manufacturing (AM) or 3d printing as it is commonly known has been already implemented in various sectors (industrial and consumer products, medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.). The shipping industry is characterized as conservative to changes. As AM is starting to consolidate in the industry, can offer lessons guiding changes. Application in industries with similar to shipping characteristics (industries with moving assets), reveals the potential of applying it in the shipping industry. The availability of spare parts is important for the vessel maintenance. Additive manufacturing could shorten the space parts supply chain in the maritime industry, since the part could be made near the place it is needed.

W artykule zaprezentowano rozważania dotyczące wpływu regulacji unijnych w postaci porozumień wertykalnych w sektorze pojazdów samochodowych spod zakazu porozumień ograniczających konkurencję na koszty napraw samochodów osobowych w Polsce. Rozważania uzupełniono o autorskie symulacje kosztów napraw, obejmujące zastosowanie poszczególnych kategorii części zamiennych w procesach naprawy wyselekcjonowanych samochodów osobowych z czterech wybranych segmentów rynkowych. Zamierzeniem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na istotę podjętej problematyki badawczej poprzez wykazanie, jakie rozbieżności cenowe występują pomiędzy danymi kategoriami części zamiennych, co w przyszłości może ułatwić odpowiedź na pytanie. Zastosowanie, której kategorii części zamiennych prowadzi do najwyższej redukcji kosztów naprawy pojazdu. Adresatami zaprezentowanych wyników badań są zarówno warsztaty naprawcze, użytkownicy prywatni jak i towarzystwa ubezpieczeniowe.

The article presents considerations regarding the impact of EU regulations in the form of vertical agreements in the motor vehicle sector from the prohibition of agreements restricting competition to the costs of passenger car repairs in Poland. The considerations were supplemented with proprietary repairs of repair costs, covering the use of individual categories of spare parts in the processes of repairing selected passenger cars from four selected market segments. The intention of the article is to draw attention to the essence of the research issues undertaken by showing which price discrepancies occur between the given spare parts, which in the future may facilitate the answer to the question: application, which category of spare parts leads to the highest reduction of vehicle repair costs. The addressees of the presented research results are both repair workshops, private users and insurance companies.

Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, jaka jest struktura użytkowników samochodów osobowych ze względu na wagę przypisywaną jakości części zamiennych oraz które predyktory kształtują tę strukturę. Jako metodę gromadzenia danych wykorzystano ankietę zrealizowaną na próbie 498 klientów serwisów samochodowych. Do identyfikacji nominalnych i porządkowych predyktorów oraz charakterystyki uzyskanych segmentów zastosowano drzewa klasyfikacyjne w oparciu o zaawansowany algorytm CART (Classification and Regression Trees). Implikacją teoretyczną jest budowa modelu klasyfikacji użytkowników samochodów ze względu na predyktory charakteryzujące badanych, pojazdy i sposób ich eksploatacji. Implikacją praktyczną jest dostarczenie rekomendacji istotnych przy projektowaniu i wytwarzaniu części zamiennych w celu efektywnej segmentacji rynku. Wkładem własnym autora i elementem nowości jest zastosowanie drzew klasyfikacyjnych w badanym obszarze, a także uzyskana segmentacja rynku.

The aim of the paper is to find out what the structure of passenger cars users concerning the weight ascribed to the quality of spare parts is and which predictors shape this structure. As a method of data acquisition a questionnaire filled in by 498 clients of garages was used. To identify nominal and ordinal predictors and characteristics of the obtained segments classification trees were used on a basis of the advanced CART (Classification and Regression Trees) algorithm. A theoretical implication is a construction of a model of car users according to the predictors characterizing users, vehicles and the way of their maintenance. A practical implication is a deliverance of recommendations important for an effective market segmentation when designing and manufacturing spare cars. Author’s contribution and a novelty element is the use of classification trees in the researched area, as well as the obtained market segmentation.

In today’s market reality, the information about the real time of the vehicle repair time has become an imperative of tremendous importance. In today’s market of repair services, both the service providers and customers care about the most precise determination of this time. Thus, in terms of increasing market availability to other categories of spare parts than those original ones, the process of properly defining the implementation of the repair service is becoming more and more important. The article focuses on the issue of the influence of the distribution channels of particular categories of spare parts on the vehicle repair time. Considerations are based on author’s simulations covering a comparative study of car repair periods depending on the applied category of spare parts. The purpose of the article is to answer the question, whether the applied category of spare parts in the process of the performed repair service affects the implementation of this service.

The development of electro-mobility in Poland is one of the inevitable processes awaiting the Polish automotive industry. For each potential electric vehicle user, the information on the vehicle’s operating costs therefore becomes an imperative of tremendous importance. The analysis of market prices of passenger cars clearly indicates that the costs of acquiring a new electric vehicle are much higher than conventional fuel vehicles. Therefore, the expectations of customers themselves become fundamentally significant, who in relation to the spare parts in the case of this category of vehicles expect the highest technological and quality standards while maintaining the suitable price parameter. The article attempts to signal the issues related to the evaluation of electro-mobility parameters by presenting the comparative study of the costs of repairing electric vehicles and vehicles fuelled by conventional fuels. Considerations were supplemented by authoritative cost simulations, including the comparison of the same models of vehicles equipped with both the conventional and ecological power units. The aim of the article is to draw attention to the essence of the research problem and to answer the question whether the total costs of operating electric vehicles are in reality significantly lower than that of vehicles fuelled by conventional fuel.

The paper undertakes the problem of managing exploitation support of aviation equipment in terms of spare parts and subassemblies taking into account variable conditions, resulting from different intensity of aircraft and helicopter operation. It covers the practical aspects of planning stocks of material resources in connection with the applicable operating systems and failure of aircraft at the airbase level. By using statistical elements and probabilistic models it indicates the possibility of increasing the availability of parts and aircraft components, which in the long run will make a positive impact on the level of equipment technical efficiency. The article points to the need to minimize the expenditure involved and to avoid redundant, useless aircraft spare parts and components. Therefore, it is aimed at increasing the efficiency of material management, improving safety and developing exploitation systems in terms of technical reliability.

Referat podejmuje problematykę zarządzania procesem wsparcia eksploatacji sprzętu lotniczego w zakresie części zamiennych i podzespołów uwzględniając zmienne warunki wynikające z różnej intensywności eksploatacji samolotów i śmigłowców. Obejmuje on swym zakresem praktyczne aspekty planowania zapasów technicznych środków materiałowych w powiązaniu z obowiązującymi systemami eksploatacji i awaryjnością statków powietrznych na poziomie bazy lotniczej. Przy wykorzystaniu elementów statystyki oraz modeli probabilistycznych wskazuje na możliwości zwiększenia dostępności części i podzespołów lotniczych, co w dłuższej perspektywie pozwoli korzystnie wpłynąć na poziom sprawności technicznej sprzętu. Opracowanie wskazuje na potrzebę minimalizacji ponoszonych nakładów i uniknięcia nadmiernych nie wykorzystywanych części i podzespołów lotniczych. Jest zatem ukierunkowane na zwiększenie efektywności gospodarki materiałowej, poprawę bezpieczeństwa oraz usprawnienie funkcjonowania systemu eksploatacji w aspekcie niezawodności technicznej.

W artykule podjęto próbę zasygnalizowania problematyki wymiaru ekonomicznego wpływu generacji pojazdu na kształtowanie się cen części zamiennych. Do analizy wyselekcjonowano poszczególne modele pojazdów, które na przełomie ostatnich lat charakteryzowały się największym zainteresowaniem strony popytowej zarówno na rynku pierwotnymi jak i wtórnym. Celem rozważań jest wskazanie jakie rozbieżności cenowe w zakresie części zamiennych występują pomiędzy danymi generacjami poszczególnych modeli pojazdów. Analiza porównawcza dotyczyła wyłącznie bieżących cen nowych części oryginalnych, które ulegają zużyciu w procesach eksploatacyjnych pojazdu. Zaprezentowane badania mogą być pomocne w celu oszacowania ewentualnych kosztów napraw związanych z posiadaniem poszczególnej generacji danego modelu pojazdu. Ponadto wyniki badań mogą być pomocne w procesach podejmowania decyzji zakupowych zarówno dla klientów indywidualnych jak i grupowych.

The article attempts to signal the issue of the economic impact of the vehicle's generation on the price of spare parts. Selected models of vehicles, which at the turn of the last years were most interested in both the primary and secondary markets, were selected. The purpose of the weighing is to indicate what price spikes in spare parts occur between the respective generations of the individual vehicle models. Comparative analysis only concerned the current prices of new genuine spare parts that are consumed in the vehicle's operational processes. The presented studies may be helpful in estimating the cost of repairing a particular generation of a given vehicle model.
