Motivation of retired officers of the Polish Army to take up work after the service

Purpose: The aim of the work was to successfully define motivation and the act of motivating, but also to characterize many different kinds of the former. Based on a survey carried out among retired officers a set of data was presented, explaining the reasons for their desire to find employment after withdrawing from the army, as well as making known retirees’ opinions on their persisting willingness to keep working post-retirement. The profile of an officer of the Polish Army was also discussed. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted in a group of retired officers of the Polish Army in 2019-2021 using the snowball method. The study also used the method of analysis and criticism of the literature and the heuristic method, as well as the quantitative method - a questionnaire was used. The research problem was expressed in the form of a question: What factors influence the motivation of retired officers of the Polish Armed Forces to take up work after leaving the service? Findings: The termination of military service after several years of work in the Polish army may be a difficult moment for some officers, because most of their lives they worked in one organization, where there are clear and defined rules and high discipline. During their service, the officers of the Polish Armed Forces acquired valuable competences - knowledge and skills supported by experience, therefore it is important that they can still use their competence potential. It is essential that officers who will retire plan their future careers. Motivation, i.e. a set of forces and factors that are aimed at supporting an individual in certain behaviors, also plays a large role. Thanks to them, you can work towards achieving specific goals. According to the survey, retired officers take up work after leaving the service due to the desire to further use their knowledge and experience. Working in a group, contact with other people also influences the continuation of work in retirement. For some respondents, too low a retirement benefit is a factor that motivates them to look for a job. Originality/value: Results of this research should be of interest to institutions and people, who help retired officers of the Polish Armed Forces. Secondly they are also directed to officers themselves, as a support in planning their future professional career.

W artykule poruszono problematykę zabezpieczenia finansowego gospodarstwa domowego w okresie po przejściu na emeryturę jego członków. Zaprezentowano wyniki analizy możliwości wykorzystania instrumentu rynku finansowego, jakim jest lokata bankowa, w celu poprawy sytuacji materialnej gospodarstwa domowego, które znajduje się w fazie nieaktywności zarobkowej. Do przeprowadzenia stosownych obliczeń wykorzystano dane statystyczne publikowane przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny oraz Narodowy Bank Polski. Przy dokonywaniu analiz wzięto pod uwagę 15-letni okres badawczy, obejmujący lata 2000-2014. Metodą badawczą była analiza zgromadzonych danych z zastosowaniem metod matematycznych oraz analizy literatury przedmiotu.

The article discusses the issue of household financial security after retirement. Study presents results of the analysis of use financial market instrument, which is a bank deposit, to improve the material situation of household, which is already in the phase of inactive earnings. Statistical data published by the Central Statistical Office and the National Bank of Poland were used to carry out the relevant calculations. A 15-year study period, covering the years 2000-2014, was taken for analysis. The research method was analysis of collected data, by using mathematical methods and analysis of the literature.

Certain workplaces are called jobs with limited tenure. Due to physical or psychosocial risk factors, often coupled with qualification mismatches, workers cannot grow old in them. That may lead to premature exit into retirement, to a period of drawing a work incapacity pension or to a long spell of unemployment. A horizontal career change, which enables the worker to move on to a less burdening workplace while preserving social status, is a possible solution. The objective of the “Horizontal career change—a new job opportunity for older employees” project is to develop a model of career changes for workers employed in jobs with limited tenure and to implement it in the form of an information- and communication technology-based tool. Possible applications range from individual career planning, through institutionalized vocational reintegration, to personnel development in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Grupa zawodowa górników kojarzona jest nie tylko z zagrażającą życiu i zdrowiu pracą, ale również z charakterystycznymi formami spędzania wolnego czasu. Część z nich, utrwalona tradycją, kontynuowana jest przez kolejne pokolenia pracowników kopalń, stanowiąc element kultury górniczej. W artykule autorka skupiła uwagę na tych związanych z naturą: hodowlą zwierząt (gołębi pocztowych, ptactwa ozdobnego; królików i in.), "działalnością ogródkową" i wędkowaniem. Zaprezentowane materiały są efektem jej badań terenowych.

Retirement signifies the transition from a position of active employment to a non-employee status usually triggered by age or other significant life event. The underlying principle of retirement continues to be a necessary event to sustain the American economy. In the post-depression era, the idea of retirement and more recently the idea of encouraging individuals to retire became a popular notion. Benefits from retirement include job openings for younger workers who graduate from college or university or are ready to start a trade or other employment. Recently government and private workers have been enticed into retirement with a myriad of buy-out arrangements. Even when Americans make a good faith effort to save for retirement, it is possible to end up with inadequate resources due to corrupt business practices and investment decisions that do not generate adequate returns.

Emerytura oznacza przejście z pozycji aktywnego zatrudnienia do statusu osoby niepracującej zwykle z powodu wieku lub innych istotnych wydarzeń życiowych. Podstawowe zasady przechodzenia na emeryturę w dalszym ciągu są niezbędne dla utrzymania amerykańskiej gospodarki. W okresie pokryzysowym, zachęcanie osób do przejścia na emeryturę stało się popularnym zjawiskiem. Korzyści z przejścia w status emerytalny osób uwzględniają otwarcie rynku pracy dla młodszych pracowników kończących szkoły i uczelnie lub gotowych do podjęcia działalności handlowej lub innego zatrudnienia. W ostatnim czasie pracownicy sektora administracyjnego i prywatnego zachęcani byli do przejścia na emeryturę za pomocą licznych ofert wykupu. Nawet jeśli Amerykanie w dobrej wierze oszczędzają na emerytury, istnieje możliwość, że pozostaną z niewystarczającymi środkami za sprawą praktyk korupcyjnych w biznesie i decyzji inwestycyjnych, które nie przynoszą odpowiednich zwrotów.
