Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia historię scaleń gruntów i działań im pokrewnych już od czasów średniowiecza aż do czasów współczesnych. Na tle uwarunkowań historycznych przedstawiona została struktura agrarna kraju oraz zakres prac scaleniowych. W pracy przedstawione zostały również podstawy prawne prac scaleniowych w okresie powojennym, zakres ich realizowania w oparciu o fundusze unijne, perspektywy scaleń i wyzwania. Artykuł przedstawia także historię, rolę i funkcjonowanie WBGiTR w kraju na przestrzeni lat oraz zadania biur realizowane w jednostkach samorządów województw.

This article presents the history of land consolidation and related activities from the Middle Ages up to modern times. Against the background of historical conditions, the agrarian structure of the country and the scope of the consolidation works were presented. The work also presents the legal bases of consolidation works in the post-war period, the scope of their implementation based on EU funds, land consolidation perspectives and challenges. The article also presents the history, role and functioning of provincial offices of geodesy and rural areas in the country over the years and the tasks of offices carried out in the self-government units of the provinces.
