Information technology companies often have to setup a specific virtual environment in order to develop innovative software products. Software development requires a variety of IT tools to ensure a smooth flow of information and proper organisation of tasks within the project team. The evolution of information and communication technologies has allowed virtual teams to share knowledge online, which became more preferable than traditional meetings of developers. The main objective of this article is to determine how virtual project teams are being formed and what are the key attributes of a virtual team – a conceptual Three Aspects Model of a virtual team was presented that may be used in further research. An overview of supportive project management software solutions for virtual teams has also been conducted. The research results presented in the paper indicate that various IT tools lack support in some aspects of virtual project teams.

Współcześnie, zarządzanie projektami wymaga zmierzenia się z turbulentnym środowiskiem projektowym, dużą ilością informacji wymagających przetworzenia oraz rozproszonymi zespołami, pracującymi w różnych częściach świata. Wpływa to na rozwój narzędzi informatycznych, wspomagających zbieranie, przetwarzanie i dystrybucję w rozproszonym środowisku projektowym informacji zarządczej. Wraz ze wzrostem liczby tego typu produktów, coraz trudniejszym staje się dobór oprogramowania odpowiedniego do wymagań danej organizacji oraz prowadzonych przez nią projektów. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie procedury wyboru optymalnego oprogramowania z wykorzystaniem metody AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). Realizując go, dokonano przeglądu literatury oraz przedstawiono założenia pilotażowych badań empirycznych. Ich celem była weryfikacja postulatywnego, wielowymiarowego modelu wyboru oprogramowania do zarządzania projektami. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników sformułowano wnioski o charakterze poznawczym, metodologicznym oraz utylitarnym, wskazując także na trudności zaobserwowane podczas realizacji badania.

Nowadays, project management requires dealing with a turbulent project's environment, a lot of information to process and the team of people working in different parts of the world. This affects for the development of IT tools that require collection, processing and distribution of management information. In the parallel with increasing the number of these products, it becomes more and more difficult to choose software that is appropriate to the organization's requirements and the projects it runs. The aim of the article is to present the procedure for selecting the optimal software by using AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process). By implementing it, the literature was reviewed and the assumptions of pilot empirical research were presented. The goal was to verify the postulative, multidimensional model of selecting project management software. Based on them, cognitive, methodological and utilitarian conclusions were formulated, also indicating the difficulties observed during the implementation of the study.
