Dilatometric examination of moulds with plaster binder

Investigations concerning thermal expansion of moulding materials with plaster binder have been performed for two mixture compositions of Authors' own design, as well as for the material used in jewellery industry under the Prima-Cast trade name, and for ThermoMold 1200 moulding material. The results of dilatometric examinations of these materials, carried out within the temperature range from about 20oC to 650oC by means of the DA-3 automatic dilatometer, have been compared. An analysis of this comparison has revealed that it is the matrix composition which is decisive for the magnitude of dimensional changes of moulds, and that applying components which do not exhibit polymorphic transformations reduces dimensional changes of a mould during its thermal treatment.

Zamieszczono opisy wybranych pomników dokumentujących tragiczne zdarzenia w okresie ostatnich dwustu lat, stanowiące kanwę do rozważań o przyczynach wojen. Autor chciał znaleźć odpowiedź na pytanie czy tak wiele pomników upamiętniających konflikty zbrojne i ich ofiary wśród żołnierzy i ludności cywilnej spowodują, aby ludzkość oceniła wojny jako bezsensowne barbarzyństwo? Odpowiedzi takiej nie mógł znaleźć. W zakończeniu przedstawiono przypuszczalne scenariusze przyszłych wojen, w których nauka może odegrać większą rolę niż dawniej odwaga walczących. Dobrze byłoby, gdyby komputerowe wojny zdołały odstraszać przeciwników od użycia siły, a szczególnie do użycia broni masowej zagłady.

Descriptions are given of the chosen monuments which document the tragic events in the period of the last two hundred years and which make a canvas to consider the reasons of wars. The author wanted to find an answer to the question if so many monuments commemorating the armed conflicts and their victims among soldiers and civilian people can cause that the mankind might evaluate wars as senseless barbarity. However, he could not find such answer. In the end a probable scenario of future wars, in which science can play a more important part than the courage of the fighting soldiers in the past, is presented. It would be good if computer wars could frighten away the enemies from using the force, and especially from using the weapon of mass destruction.
