The work was dedicated to the subject of innovative autonomous vehicles on the transport market. The paper presents basic information about autonomous cars: a nomenclature characteristic of autonomous vehicles, along with the terms “automatic”, “autonomous”, “self-drive” and “driverless”. The article also presents various types of autonomous cars based on the most popular classifications in the world. The purpose of the work is to present basic issues related to autonomous vehicles.

Dokonano przeglądu terminologii i nomenklatury stosowanej w międzynarodowych i polskich doniesieniach naukowych w odniesieniu do jednej z najszybciej rozwijających się grup materiałów, jaką są sieci metalo-organiczne MOF. Przedyskutowano, czy właściwe jest użycie niektórych nazw, wskazując jednocześnie na pilną potrzebę wprowadzenia rekomendacji w terminologii i nazewnictwie dla tej grupy materiałów, zwłaszcza w języku polskim. Przedstawiono też propozycje autorskie.

Prężnie rozwijające się górnictwo odkrywkowe, eksploatujące przy użyciu specjalistycznych maszyn i urządzeń, wymaga ciągłej wymiany myśli technicznej do właściwego określania ich nazewnictwa i charakteru pracy. Bardzo duża różnorodność stosowanych maszyn powoduje błędy nazewnictwa, które nie odpowiada ich przeznaczeniu i sposobowi pracy, co uwidacznia się nie tylko we współczesnych opracowaniach technicznych z tego zakresu, ale także w słowach głoszonych na konferencjach i sympozjach branżowych.

Jednym z wyzwań, przed jakimi stanęli polscy specjaliści z różnych dziedzin po wejściu Polski do Unii Europejskiej, stała się harmonizacja polskich norm z systemem europejskim. Dotyczy to również środowiska geologów inżynierskich i geotechników. Wdrażanie norm europejskich przebiega powoli i z dużymi oporami. Na przykładzie nowej nomenklatury gruntów spoistych, po przeprowadzeniu stosownych analiz, autorzy wskazują przyczyny tego stanu rzeczy oraz sygnalizują potrzebę i kierunki doskonalenia wprowadzonych norm geotechnicznych.

Unification of Polish standards with the European system has been one of the challenges for Polish specialists in various fields after Poland entered the European Union. This refers also to the society of engineering geologists and geotechnicians. The implementation of European standards runs slowly and with a high resistance. Presenting and analyzing the new nomenclature of cohesive soils, the authors indicate the reasons of this situation as well as the necessity and the ways of improving the introduced geotechnical standards.

W ostatnim dwudziestoleciu pojawiło się wiele nowych materiałów, które zmieniły sposób budowania dachu. Chodzi o wszelkie materiały elastyczne nazywane potocznie foliami, chociaż należą do nich i takie, które mają niejednorodną włóknistą budowę odróżniającą je od folii.

Zmiany gospodarcze minionego dziesięciolecia i zmiany pokoleniowe fachowców wywierają wpływ na terminologię w technice rolniczej. W niektórych działach techniki odbiegamy, co do zasad, od nazewnictwa stosowanego w "starych" krajach UE. Proces przyjmowania nowych nazw przebiega spontanicznie, bez żadnych kompetentnych uzgodnień. Obserwuje się regionalizację terminologii na poziomie akademickim. Angielskie tłumaczenia tekstów fachowych wymagają większego zaangażowania autorów.

Economic changes of the past decade and specialists generation changes affect terminology used in agricultural technology. As regards rules, in some divisions of technology we depart from nomenclature used in the "old" EU countries. The process of adopting new names proceeds spontaneously, without any competent consultations. Terminology regionalization is observed at academic level. English translations of professional texts require higher involvement of their authors.

The problem is concerned with a two-dimensional unsteady motion in an ice-covered ocean due to the transient bottom disturbance, the ice-cover being formed by a thin sheet of ice modelled as an elastic plate. Assuming linear theory, the problem is solved as an initial value problem in the velocity potential describing the motion in the fluid. Using the Laplace and Fourier transforms in time and space respectively, the depression of the ice-cover below its mean horizontal position, is obtained in terms of an integral. This integral is evaluated asymptotically for large time and distance by the method of stationary phase. Leading waves due to a transient disturbance are also obtained. The asymptotic form of the depression of the ice-cover is depicted graphically in a number of figures for different forms of the bottom disturbance and compared with the case when the upper surface is free, so as to visualize the effect of the presence of ice.

Solid sorption heat pumps and coolers have a good potential to be used in the air-conditioning, electronic thermal control and transport applications. Recent application is focused on a small-scale combined cold, heat and power system, which utilizes the motor waste heat for cold production (tri-generation system). The main feature of this device is the innovative adsorbent bed consisting of a heat pipe heat exchanger, in which the finned tubes are coated with an active carbon fiber "Busofit", saturated with different metal salts (salt on the fiber). Owing to the advantageous sorption properties of the complex compound and the good heat transfer quality of the heat pipe, an advanced sorption heat pump can be heated efficiently by the low temperature heat source. The heat pump has two sources of cold, namely the low temperature sorbent bed canister and the principal evaporator. The working fluid is ammonia. The experimental results show a specific power of 500-550 W/kg of adsorbent. The most favorable situation is the case, when two sources of cold are welcomed. The goal of this research program is an improvement of the heat pump system from simple case of two reactors with two different salts to complicated system with three reactors, evaporator/condenser and two branches of coolers, acting out of phase to produce heat and cold simultaneously.

An abstract of the report on current development in application of this technology in the world has been included. The report was presented during the meeting of CIATF Commission 5.1. "Evaporative Pattern Casting" Treborg in Holland in August 1997.
