Neo-institutional perception of the multidimensionality of modern logistics

This article is an analytical study of the changing nature of modern logistics. The aim of the considerations undertaken is to identify the essence and nature of the contemporary multidimensionality of logistics from the point of view of science and economic practice. The research problem is whether institutional economics at the current stage of its development is up to the task resulting from the aim of the considerations undertaken? Finding an answer to the problem question should be helped by the achievements of new institutional economics It is reasonable to pose the hypothesis: “The multidimensionality of contemporary logistics is a response to the civilisational challenges of the modern world. An effective approach in recognising it is to identify it through the paradigm of institutional economics evoking its structural elements, i.e. “social ceremonies”; “technologies”; “philosophy” and “environment” surrounded by a “security belt”. The research methods to achieve this aim are the analysis of the literature on the subject as well as of economic practice, and its synthesis of conclusions allowing a characterization of the multidimensionality of contemporary logistics, based on a set of essential determinants assigned to them. The picture identified in this way makes it possible to see both its positive sides and its negative sides, and to indicate the place of logistics in economic practice now and in the future. This approach should also make it possible, on the basis of past experience, to develop research arguments for logistics theory and directives for shaping economic practice for the present and the future.

Artykuł stanowi analityczne studium zmian charakteru współczesnej logistyki. Celem podjętych rozważań jest rozpoznanie istoty i charakteru współczesnej wielowymiarowości logistyki z punktu widzenia nauki oraz praktyki gospodarczej. Problemem badawczym jest pytanie: Czy ekonomia instytucjonalna na obecnym etapie jej rozwoju jest w stanie sprostać zadaniu wynikającego z celu podjętych rozważań? Znalezieniu odpowiedzi na pytanie problemowe powinien pomóc dorobek nowej ekonomii instytucjonalnej. Zasadnym jest postawienie hipotezy: Wielowymiarowość współczesnej logistyki jest odzewem na wyzwania cywilizacyjne współczesnego świata. Skutecznym podejściem w jej rozpoznaniu jest identyfikacja przez pryzmat paradygmatu ekonomiki instytucjonalnej przywołującej jej elementy strukturalne, to jest „ceremonie społeczne”; „technologie”; „filozofię” oraz „środowisko” otoczonych „pasem bezpieczeństwa”. Metodami badawczymi pozwalającymi osiągnąć założony cel jest analiza literatury przedmiotu, jak i praktyki gospodarczej oraz synteza jej wniosków pozwalająca na dokonanie charakterystyki wielowymiarowości współczesnej logistyki, w oparciu o przypisany im zbiór zasadniczych wyznaczników. Tak zidentyfikowany jej obraz pozwala dostrzec zarówno obok pozytywnych stron także negatywne strony oraz wskazać na miejsce logistyki w praktyce gospodarczej obecnie, jak i w przyszłości. Takie podejście powinno również pozwolić w oparciu o doświadczenia z przeszłości, wypracować także argumenty badawcze dla teorii logistyki, a także dyrektywy kształtowania praktyki gospodarczej dla teraźniejszości oraz przyszłości.

Sensem, istotą, logiką funkcjonowania dobrej logistyki jest potrzeba i konieczność w działaniu logistycznym utrzymania równowagi między oczekiwaniami zadowolonych klientów z funkcjonowania firmy a podejmowaniu przez firmy radykalnych, innowacyjnych zmian aby polepszyć system zarządzania firmą, utrzymać renomę i konkurencyjność na rynku. Ich wysiłki odzwierciedlone i ujęte są właśnie w niniejszym artykule, a jego treści odzwierciedlają następujące podtytuły: • znaczenie potrzeby istnienie dobrej, konkurencyjnej logistyki na wolnym rynku; • warunki skutecznego zarządzania logistyką; • logistyka siłą napędową wszelkiego działania. Niniejsze zagadnienia rozpatrywane są w kontekście specyfiki i złożoności logistyki wynikającej z wielowymiarowości potrzeb podmiotów, których brak, m.in. skuteczności i elastyczności w działaniu, nie zapewnia konkurencyjności, rentowności działania i istnienia podmiotu oraz pozwala osiągnąć cele. Autorzy biorąc to pod uwagę rozważają wpływ warunków (zasad) głównie skutecznego zarządzania na jakość organizacji i realizacji zadań wsparcia zabezpieczenia logistycznegozapewniających spełnienie oczekiwań klientów i osiągnięcie założonych zysków firmy. Artykuł kończy się wnioskami, postulatami i refleksjami co do potrzeby i znaczenia pozyskiwania nowych i poprawiania i wdrażania potrzebnych zasad (warunków) skutecznego działania logistyk. A wszystko to w odniesieniu do działalności zapewniającej potrzeby i pragnienia oczekujących klientów i firm.

The need and the necessity of the balance is the point, the essence and the logic of a good functioning logistics. This balance has to be maintained between satisfied customers’ expectations and the radical and innovative improvements implemented by the companies. These improvements’ goals are: the development of management system along with company’s renown and competitiveness sustainment. The companies’ efforts in this matter have been described in this paper. Its content is divided into following parts: • the importance of a good and competitive logistics in the free market; • the conditions of effective logistic management; • the logistics as a driving force for all activities. The issues above are considered in the context of the specifics and the complexity of the logistics. The logistics is complex and specific due to the multidimensionality of the actors’ needs. The lack of effectiveness and flexibility of these actors makes them uncompetitive and unprofitable and does not allow to achieve their goals. The authors, taking mentioned facts into account, consider the influence of the effective management conditions (rules) on the organization quality and on the logistic support tasks fulfilment which ensure meeting the customers’ expectations and achieving presumed profit. The paper is summarised by the conclusions, reflections and postulates regarding the need and the importance of implementing new and developing already functioning rules (conditions) of the effective logistics. All these conclusions and postulates refer to the activities performed in order to fulfil the customers’ and the companies’ needs and requirements.

Artykuł stanowi analityczne studium zmian charakteru współczesnej logistyki. Rozważania zostały skoncentrowane na rozpoznaniu współczesnej wielowymiarowości logistyki jako dyscypliny wiedzy oraz zbioru praktycznych działań. Dokonano tego przywołując dorobek nowej ekonomii instytucjonalnej. Kwestia wielowymiarowości logistyki rozpatrzona została przez pryzmat elementów strukturalnych paradygmatu ekonomiki instytucjonalnej, to jest „ceremonii społecznych”, „technologii”, „filozofii” oraz „środowiska” otoczonego własnym „pasem bezpieczeństwa”, będącego ich otoczeniem. Charakterystyka została oparta na przypisanym im zbiorze zasadniczych wyznaczników. Takie podejście ma argumenty w przeszłości i w teraźniejszości.

The article “An attempted neo-institutional look at the multi-dimensionality of modern logistics” is an analytical study of changes in the nature of modern logistics. Note that the discussion was focused on the identification of modern multidimensional logistics as a discipline of knowledge and a set of practical actions. This was done recalling the achievements of the new institutional economics. The issue was considered as multidimensional logistics through the prism of structural elements of the paradigm of institutional economy, it is “social ceremony”; “technology”; “philosophy” and “environment” surrounded by their own “safety belt” which is their surroundings. Characterisation was done on the basis of their assigned set of fundamental determinants. This approach has produced arguments in the past and in the present.
