The natural mineral resources (hard coal, sands, dolomites, lead and zinc ores) found in the Silesia and the excavation of them led to significant transformation or even degradation of the environment. The landscape of Upper Silesia was dominated by heaps created as a result of the accumulation of post-mining coal waste. These postindustrial sites are characterised by difficult conditions for the development of plant communities. Nevertheless, the heaps are spontaneously overgrowing and over time, a separate ecosystem can be observed (for heaps). The article analyzes the enzymatic activity of the substrate in relation to the selected dominant grass (Monocots) and herbaceous (Dicots) plant species. The aim of this study was to compare the activity of particular enzymes in soil substratum of the vegetation patches dominated by grass and herbaceous plants.

Niemieckie górnictwo węglowe uległo w ostatnich latach znaczącej redukcji i osiągnęło w roku 2004 wydobycie na poziomie 26 mln ton. Jedną z najlepszych kopalń węgla jest kopalnia antracytu w Ibbenburen należąca do koncernu Deutsche Steinkohle (DSK) i wydobywająca rocznie około 1,8 mln ton. Kopalnia, mimo iż wydobywa węgiel najwyższej jakości, ze względu na cienkie pokłady i przyjętą technologię, produkuje rocznie ponad 2 min ton odpadów górniczych i elektrownianych, gdyż znaczna część wydobywanego węgla jest zużywana przez miejscową elektrownię o mocy 760 MW. Kopalnia w całości utylizuje tak odpady górnicze, jak również odpady elektrowniane, nie powodując większego zagrożenia dla środowiska. Artykuł prezentuje podstawowe elementy gospodarki odpadami wraz ze składowaniem odpadów górniczych oraz sposób podziemnego wykorzystania popiołów lotnych z elektrowni do wznoszenia obudowy wyrobisk korytarzowych w obudowie zwanej "Kombiausbau System Ibbenburen".

German hard coal mining industry has been considerably decreased in recent years and finally reached annual output of 26 mln tons. One very modern mine is colliery "DSK Anthrazit Ibbenburen GmbH" with annual output of 1.8 mln tons. The mine is connected with coal power station Block B of 760 MW power. However this coalmine produces a great amount of waste material (mostly different kind of rock and fly ash), all of them are manage very properly and not polluting air, water and surrounding areas. Mine co-operates with local authorities creating common model of waste material utilization. Paper shows the problems of planning and building of waste rock heap and way of utilization of hundreds thousand tons of fly ash for constructing underground gallery's lining called "Kombiausbau system Ibbenburen".

W artykule poruszono problem oszacowania oddziaływania zwałowisk skały płonej (zwanych też hałdami) na otaczający krajobraz. Niedobór narzędzi i metod badawczych w niniejszym aspekcie skłonił autora do zaprezentowania założeń własnej metody oceny natężenia zjawisk erozyjnych, stopnia pokrycia przez roślinność oraz ogólnego zespolenia z elementami otaczającego krajobrazu. Metoda ta będąc składową szerszej analizy, obejmującej również interakcje fizyko-chemiczne, została zastosowana przy ocenie stanu wybranych zwałowisk kopalni "Polkowice-Sieroszowice".

The article presents the simple method for estimation of mining heaps influence on local landscape. This method was worked out and applied during analysis of heaps impact on environment in LGOM region. Influence on such parameters like geochemical characteristics of soil and ground water can be measured by many well developed methods while influence on landscape still doesn't have sufficient measuring methods. There are proposed three parameters to estimate erosion events, extent of vegetation overgrowing and extent of harmony with surrounding area on the whole.
