The classical hydrodynamic theory of slide bearing lubrication has been constituted on the assumption of constant pressure and viscosity perpendicular to the thin oil layer thickness. These fundamental assumptions are in contradiction to contemporary achievements connected with new devices such as micro-bearing, nano-bearing, magnetic bearings, artificial joints in humanoid robots, micro-motors. Therefore, new methods of measurements and calculations using AFM and a new mathematical computer programs are needed. Energy conservation equations after boundary layer simplifications confirm the fact that temperature gradient variations across the film thickness have the same order of magnitude as the variations in longitudinal or circumferential directions. The fact that temperature gradient variations cross the bearing gap height can be significantly large are evident, despite the temperature differences across the film thickness that are negligibly small. This statement cannot be compliant with the assumption of a constant viscosity value in the gap height direction. It has been proven that hydrodynamic pressure is not constant across the film thickness for non-Newtonian oils with Rivlin Erickson constitutive equations. For pseudo-plastic non-Newtonian oils, the apparent dynamic viscosity significantly decreases with shear rate increases. However, for pseudo-plastic oils, the shear rate increments during the oil flow are strictly connected with the average flow velocity increments. Therefore, the apparent dynamic viscosity depends strongly on the oil velocity gradients. It is evident that flow velocity gradients across the film thickness have intensive variations, particularly in regions where gap height attains the least value. In these places, the dynamic viscosity attains the largest variations in gap height directions. If gap height in micro-bearing is smaller than one micrometre, than the largest oil dynamic viscosity increments caused by the velocity variations across the film thickness are located near the superficial layer of the movable journal surfaces in the case of the hydrodynamic lubrication by rotation, but in the neighbourhood where each of two come near lubricated surfaces during the squeezing. Hence, in these places, dynamic viscosity increases across the film thickness and attains the local maximum values. A gap height smaller than one micrometre has the largest oil dynamic viscosity increments caused by the adhesion force variations across the film thickness located near the motionless sleeve surfaces. In a similar manner, the influences on the viscosity variations caused by the luster points of concentrations of nano particles as oil inhibitors or oil additives smaller than 5 nm occurring in micro-bearing gaps and the cluster concentration regions of collagen fibres occurring in human joint gap are observed. This paper describes and comments on the above-mentioned problem of oil viscosity changes in the gap height direction, and it presents the apparent dynamic viscosity functions for Newtonian and non-Newtonian oils as well indicates the largest viscosity variations in bearing gap height direction and gives examples of initial calculation results.

1. 4. Siły adhezji w szczelinach łożysk o wysokości poniżej mikrometra osiągają największe wartości w pobliżu współpracujących powierzchni, powodując w tych obszarach największe wzrosty lepkości oleju po kierunku wysokości szczeliny.

Presented in this paper artificial intelligence tools of calculations for micro-bearings systems determine the method using in mechatronics where are investigated the principles of intelligent behavior of micro-bearings and are created its new formal models using computer programs which can make simulations models of slide micro-bearing behavior during the exploitation process. Fuzzy logic is a mathematical object with defined multivalued function which has values in closed set 0,1. In classical case mentioned function has only two values namely zero and one. Efficient functioning of slide micro-bearings systems require to choice the proper journal shapes, bearing materials, roughness of bearing surfaces and many other features to which belongs capability to the processes and control. Artificial intelligence of micro-bearing leads to the creating and indicating of the network logical models to describe most simple and most proper topological graphical schemes presenting the design of anticipated processes. Application of the logical network analysis into the micro-bearing HDD design is the subject-matter of this paper.

Omawiane systemy topologiczne wiodą do tworzenia optymalnych algorytmów obliczeń numerycznych wartości ciśnienia hydrodynamicznego i siły nośnej łożysk ślizgowych dla różnych kształtów geometrycznych czopów i panewek w rozpatrywanych łożyskach ślizgowych. Niniejsza praca przedstawia pewne wdrożenie analizy sieciowej w logiczno-topologicznej postaci komponentu sztucznej inteligencji, zastosowanego do określenia optymalnego systemu projektowania, dotyczącego parametrów eksploatacyjnych łożysk takich, jak nośność, siły tarcia, współczynnik tarcia, zużycie łożyska.

This paper presents a new numerical method of hydrodynamic pressure determination in micro-bearing lubrication. We are considering the microbearing where the attained journal diameter values are about 1 millimetre and the micro-bearing gap height has values up to one micrometer. The lubricant in such thin gap has specific properties, which are different in comparison to the oil in classical bearings. For example, the adhesion and cohesion forces change the dynamic lubricant viscosity in the very thin bearing gap. On the lubricant, dynamic viscosity changes have an influence on the following interactions: a damping of liquid forces, electrostatic forces, capillary forces, Van der Waals molecular forces, and Coulomb repulsive forces. In this case, we can observe the main changes of lubricant dynamic viscosity in gap height direction. This fact implies to the new value of hydrodynamic pressure obtained from adhesion and cohesion forces, which never occurs in classical bearings. The present paper shows the numerical method of the determination of the mentioned additional hydrodynamic pressure caused by the adhesion and cohesion forces in micro-bearing gaps.

This paper presents the influence of adhesion and cohesion forces on the pressure distribution and carrying capacity forces occurring during the lubrication of hydrodynamic, parabolic sidle microbearings. We are considering the microbearing where the attained values of the journal diameter of about 1 millimetre and micro-bearing gap heights have values up to one micrometer. The lubricant in such a thin gap has specific properties, which are different in comparison to the oil in classical bearings. The micro-bearing journal has a parabolic shape in the longitudinal direction. Therefore, during the journal rotation, the centrifugal forces develop that change the adhesion forces in such thin lubricant layer. Magnification of adhesion forces caused by the centrifugal forces gives the changes of internal friction forces between oil particles; hence, the dynamic viscosity in micro-bearing gap height direction changes more than the same case but in cylindrical micro-bearings. This fact implies the new value of hydrodynamic pressure obtained from adhesion and cohesion forces that never occur in cylindrical bearings. The present paper shows the numerical method for the determination of the mentioned additional hydrodynamic pressure caused by the adhesion and cohesion forces in parabolic micro-bearing gaps.

In micro-bearings, where journal diameter has values up to 1 millimetre and the height of the micro-bearing gap has the largest value 1 micrometer, the intelligent features are attained by the groove and ridges on the sleeve and journal surfaces. The average groove depth and ridge height has a value of about 100 nm. The grooves have various geometrical shapes and are lying on the superficial layer of the sleeve and on the journal and are situated in circumferential and longitudinal directions of the cooperating bearing surfaces. The journals have additionally various geometrical shapes; however, in this paper, we are restricted to the cylindrical bearings only. Such grooves and ridges change in real form the height of the super thin, micro-bearing gap where the journal has various shapes. The geometrical shapes of the grooves and the cylindrical, conical, parabolic, hyperbolical geometry of the bearing journal has substantial influence on the hydrodynamic pressure distribution values and friction forces. Using the unit Heaviside'a function and Fourier series expansions, the present paper shows the various formulae for an analytical description of the various shapes of grooves, which enables one to perform the numerical calculations of the hydrodynamic pressure, carrying capacities, and friction forces. The grooved and ridged gaps have applications in Computer Hard Discs Drivers (HDD) microbearings.
In this paper is presented the method of friction force calculations in slide conical micro-bearings occurring in HDD computer discs. The authors compare they’re own results with the results that were obtained by the G.H. Jang research team. The considered micro-bearings have intelligent memory features. G.H. Jang attain memory properties through the nano- grooves on the cylindrical micro-bearing surfaces, which implies the whirling motion and whirling flows of the lubricant in the bearing gap. In presented paper, the memory effects are obtained by the conical shapes of the journal and sleeve and additionally by the grooves with which depths of about 25 nm. Such shapes increase and regulates the proper friction force values and whirling motion and therefore increase the bearing memory properties.

In this paper are presented the possibilities to attain the artificial intelligence features of slide micro-bearings taking into account: 1. Cooperation between super thin boundary lubricant layer and thin superficial layer lying on the micro-bearing shaft and sleeve with various shapes. 2. Application of a novel method of depositing thin organic and inorganic layer (superficial layer) onto a metal substrate utilizing electro-spraying (electrostatic atomization) method. The new achievements presented in this paper are aimed at application of this technology to functional layer deposition in micro-bearings. Electro-spraying is a low-energy process of liquid atomisation by means of electrical forces. Electro-spraying device consists of a capillary nozzle connected to a high electric potential whereas the substrate is grounded. The liquid flowing out the nozzle is subjected to an electrical stress, and fine droplets are generated from the meniscus or the jet formedat the nozzle outlet. Depending on physical properties of the liquid to be spraye dań d spraying conditions, the size of the droplets can be in the submicron size range. In the electro-spraying process, a solution or a suspension of a material to be deposited is atomised into droplets, which can be targeted onto a substrate to form a condensed product, for example a thin layer after solvent evaporation. The deposition efficiency of charged droplets on a target is much higher than for uncharged ones due to electric forces, which drive the droplets along the electric filed lines towards the substrate.

In this paper describes the study on the adhesion forces at a nano-contact and micro- and at a nano-lubrication. Here are elaborated the dependences between oil dynamic viscosity in super thin boundary layer and adhesion forces as well influences of adhesion forces in micro- and nano-level on the friction forces in micro- and nano-scale arising between two cooperating surfaces in micro-bearings. Up to now the influence of adhesion on oil viscosity changes and on the oil flow in micro-bearing gap was not considered in analytical way. Present paper elaborates the preliminary assumptions of hydrodynamic theory of lubrication for micro-bearing in the case if during the lubrication the adhesion forces are taking into account. In this paper are derived theformulas of pressure distributions, friction forces and friction coefficients where the adhesion forces are considered. The changes of adhesion forces in micro-contact of two bodies dependon the load direction. Load carrying capacity increases implied by the oil dynamic viscosity increases caused by the adhesion and cohesion forces attain about from 20% to 30% in comparison to the viscosity and capacity values in classical form.

Hydrodynamic theory of the lubrication of slide micro-bearings is one of the most quickly developing applied tribological domains. In the authors’ opinion, at present, scientific research performed in Poland lacks in the field of micro-nano-tribology; but in the world, such investigations have been very quickly developed and applied in hard computer disks micro-bearings, micro-motors, micro-turbines, and micro-robots. In slide micro-bearings, the lubricant flows in very thin (smaller than 1 micrometer) boundary layers around the rotating journals about 20 000 rpm. The lubricant in such thin layers attains other properties in comparison with lubricant properties flowing in thin boundary layers occurring in classical bearings. The presented research contains the following: the determination of non-Newtonian fluid velocities at the micro- and nano-level occurring in very thin boundary layers flowing inside the microbearing gap, hydrodynamic pressure and stress calculations, the determination of micro- and nano-friction forces to obtain proper friction coefficients in HDD micro-bearings. The existing shear rates during the flow have an influence on the apparent viscosity in the thin layer between the journal and micro-bearing sleeve. In the ultra thin boundary layer, the viscosity additionally changes in the gap height direction. The authors have taken into account the newest theoretical models in the field of micro- and nano-mechanics for the fluid flow in ultra thin boundary layer around the co-operating surfaces in microbearings, and experience gained during the solutions of human biobearings lubrication problems. Up until now, such research has not been performed. For the solving the HDD problems of micro-bearing lubrication, it is very important to perform the measurements of values of material coefficients, i.e. fluid pseudo-viscosity, describing the physical relations between stresses and shear rate tensor coefficients for non-Newtonian lubricants. Such measurements are possible only by using the AFM microscope and new mathematical programs. Moreover, the measurements of micro-bearing surface roughness and friction forces at the nano level during the lubrication are possible only by using the atomic force microscope. Many damages of HDD micro-bearings are connected mainly with the decreasing of the fluid dynamic viscosity. Hence, the presented research has practical meaning, because the lack of knowledge in the field of tribological parameters of HDD micro-bearing operation leads to improper exploitation, and thus to the mechanical reconstruction of the whole HDD micro-bearing spindle system.
Scientific problems considered in this paper presenting the achievements are mainly focused on comparisons of tribological processes, which occur during flow of biological fluids around joint cartilage cells during lubrication of human joint surfaces as well as surfaces of micro- and nano-bearings used in micro-mechanisms. The tissue growth presented in this paper is the process of change of mass of a biological system defined by genetic (congenital) factors and dependent on epigenetic (environmental) factors (temperature, mechanical stress and strain, internal and external physical fields, etc.). This paper shows effects of influence of congenial growth and genetic code of bio-bearing or bio-joints material on the lubricant viscosity and lubricant process. In living tissues there is a growth strain defined by genetic code and depending on many other factors (such as temperature, force factors, chemical substances, etc.). A general theory of materials with memory is the theory of simple fluid developed by Noll and Koleman. The simple fluid theory described in this paper is based on the assumption that stress is defined by a whole deformation history.
In this paper author presents the comparisons between lubricating flows in the thin layer liquids occurring in micro-bearings for a journal diameter not greater than 1 mm and with the velocity distributions existing in liquid micro-layers flowing around the cartilage cells in bioreactors. The exactly testing of mechanisms of liquid velocity distributions inside super thin layers laying on the cartilage cell surfaces during the cultivation in bioreactors enables to perform the optimization of lubrication process in intelligent micro-bearings, where cooperating surfaces could be change geometry and adapt to the external conditions during the exploitation. Fluid flows presented in thin layer about 10 nanometres height are localized in this paper on the surfaces about 20mi mx20mi m. Experiences gained during the numerical determination of velocity values in the level of some micrometers per second in bioreactors confirmed with the experimental measurement data obtained by means of Atomic Forces Microscope (AFM) enable to need the presented theory for determination of the friction forces and friction coefficient occurring in slide bearing and in an intelligent microturbine, where cooperating surfaces similarly as chondrocytes will be change your geometry and shape. Zdobyte doświadczenia w trakcie wyznaczania numerycznego prędkości cieczy rzędu wartości kilku mikrometrów na sekundę w bioreaktorach potwierdzone wynikami doświadczalnymi uzyskanymi przy wykorzystaniu Mikroskopu Sił Atomowych umożliwią zdaniem autora wyznaczenie właściwych sił tarcia oraz wykorzystanie przedstawionej teorii przy wyznaczaniu współczynników tarcia w inteligentnych mikro-łożyskach, gdzie współpracujące powierzchnie podobnie jak chondrocyty będą zmieniać geometrię, osiągając odkształcenia postaciowe.

The paper presents experimental results of the investigation on the micro-tribological properties of Ti thin film layers deposited on metallic substrates of various hardness. The tests were carried out under standard dry friction conditions using a miniature pin on disk apparatus. The experimental results found for the friction coefficient developed between 52100 steel pin and Ti as a compliant layer deposited on various hardness substrates from soft to hard are consistent with other results presented in literature for the pair steel/Ti. A friction model that assumes the plowing of microasperities into the soft thin film layer supported by the elastic substrate as the main factor in the originating friction is further proposed. A simplified one-asperity model is assessed against the compliant layer assumed deposited on a rigid substrate. The analysis of the influence of the stress developed at the interface substrate-film is assumed in this model. Tests carried out qualitatively confirmed that the influence of the inter-laminar stress is significant to friction. Given the simplification assumptions, the proposed model exhibits reasonable agreement with the experimental results. It is further suggested that the lubrication of the hard surfaces with thin compliant metallic layers of Ti represents an alternative for the friction improvement in the small bearings belonging to miniature mechanical systems and the Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS).
