The participation of Polish female soldiers in World War I

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to outline a history of the participation of Polish female soldiers in the World War I. Its outlines their commitment, struggle, and efforts made to contribute to Poland's military effort during the war. The article describes the legal situation of the military participation of women in Poland, and also deals with their role and place in society. Design/methodology/approach: The aim of the article was to organize, systematize and describe the knowledge about the role and participation of female soldiers of the Polish armed forces during the World War I. The above theoretical goal has been achieved by applying the methods of analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction and inference. Findings: In the course of the work were found results, which testify to historically underestimated contribution of women in war efforts. These, both in reinforcement and in other spheres of hostilities significantly contributed to the end of the war and its final result. Social implications: Publication of the article may contribute to increasing social awareness of the underestimated participation and involvement of female soldiers in military action during the war and of the social and cultural roles they fulfill. Originality/value: The article organizes and systematizes the knowledge about the military service of women in the described period. It is addressed both to people associated with all kinds of uniformed services, management and command, as well as people from the civilian environment.

Problematyka aspiracji zawodowych pracowników w kontekście sprawnego wykonywania zadań jest istotna, aspiracje są bowiem jednym z czynników motywujących ludzi do działania. Prawidłowo ukształtowane, kierunkują proces uczenia się człowieka, przyczyniając się do rozwoju jego kompetencji, a w konsekwencji także sprzyjają zwiększeniu sprawności prowadzonych działań. W artykule skoncentrowano się na aspiracjach zawodowych kobiet żołnierzy. Za cel główny badań przyjęto określenie rodzaju i poziomu aspiracji kobiet żołnierzy oraz wyjaśnienie istoty oddziaływania aspiracji zawodowych na sprawne wykonywanie zadań w wojsku. W odniesieniu do badanej grupy zidentyfikowano m.in.: motywy wyboru przez kobiety zawodu żołnierza, ich ukierunkowania zawodowe i preferowaną ścieżkę kariery, cechy warunkujące sukcesy oraz porażki w pracy zawodowej, poziom zadowolenia z zajmowanego stanowiska, a także czynniki i bariery sprawnej realizacji działań w organizacji.

The issue of professional aspirations of employees in the context of efficient task performance is crucial, since they are one of the factors motivating individuals to take actions. When properly formed, they guide the process of learning, facilitating development of competences and, as a consequence, they enhance efficiency of the conducted activities. The article focuses on professional aspirations of women soldiers. The main focus of the study was to determine the type and level of aspirations held by professional women soldiers and to explain the nature of influence that professional aspirations exert on efficient performance of tasks in the army. With reference to the studied group, the following, among others, have been determined: the driving forces behind choosing the soldier profession, professional focus and preferred path of career, features conditioning occupational successes and failures, level of satisfaction derived from the held position, as well as factors and barriers regarding efficient performance of tasks in an organization.

The article is a summary of research on this problem. It presents selected fragments of the female soldier's picture in the Polish press in the period of 1990-2003 which includes the self-presentation of female soldiers, their perception of the armed forces and males’ opinions concerning positive and negative aspects of women serving in the army in peace and wartime.
