The study tested the use of Viscobleach as a multi-scouring agent for pretreating cellulosic fabrics (cotton, viscose, and linen) instead of using traditional agents (caustic soda, soda ash, and hydrogen peroxide). The results showed an increase in whiteness and absorbency for viscose and linen fabrics pretreated with Viscobleach. The color strength (K/S) increased for all shades of cotton and for medium and dark shades of viscose and linen. The study also showed that the dye pick-up was higher and dye wastage lower with the Viscobleach pretreatment. The color fastness to wash and rubbing was rated 4-5 for all samples.

Mordants are materials used to fix long periods of colour on selected fabrics or fibres. The current research aimed to dye natural fibres like palm leaf (Borassus flabellifer L.), korai grass (Cyperus pangorei L.), banana fibre (Musa accuminata L.), screw fine fibre (Pandanus), sisal fibre (Agave sisalana Perrine), and pineapple fibres (Ananas comosus L.) with Calendula officinalis plant flower dye. The dye was fixed to the selected fibre material with the help of different mordants. The Calendula officinalis flower dye produced different colours, like black, brown, orange, sandal, yellow, etc., on the dyed materials. The different colour formations on the dyed materials are based on the mordents used to fix the dye. The mordants tonify the different colours in the same dyestuff of Calendula officinalis flower dye. Mordant-based dyed natural fibres have good fastness properties against light and water. Calendula officinalis dyes have potential activity against the skin infection-causing organism Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Nylon fibres are commonly used in blends with elastane. One of the problems encountered in the printing of nylon/elastane blend fabrics is the necessity of long steaming times for fixation, which causes an increase in energy consumption. In this study, the possibility of printing polyamide fabrics with 1:2 metal complex dyes for short steaming times was investigated. For this aim, laboratory and sample scale trials were performed to develop a method of chemically modifying fibres so that polyamide fabrics can be printed in short steaming times. Based on the results obtained in both trials, it was noticed that the steaming time for fixation could be reduced from 30 minutes to 15 minutes by printing with 1:2 metal complex dyes without causing a loss of printing yield and without affecting the fastness adversly in case of applying cationisation pretreatment with a modified quaternary polyalkylamine compound based product.

Content available Ultrasonic Assisted Dyeing of Angora Fi̇bre
EN
In this study it was aimed to determine the effect of ultrasound usage on the colour yield in dyeing angora fibres, and it was found that dyeing in the presence of ultrasound energy increases the dye-uptake of angora fibres, hence higher colour yield values were obtained. According to experimental results, it can be said that at all points the colour yield values were higher in the presence of ultrasound than in its absence . The difference between them was greater for darker shades and for dyeing carried out in an acidic medium (pH 5), and also for moderate dyeing periods (90 min.). Furthermore there is no important difference between washing fastness, alkali solubility and strength values of fibres dyed in the presence and absence of ultrasound.

Content available remote Dyeing of glass fibres by the sol gel method
EN
This study focused on the dyeing of glass fibres by colour layers created by the sol gel method. Glass fibres are used as a typical example of fibres with non-ideal dyeing properties. Glass and similar dyes are rigid, the internal fibre structure is non-porous and the glass transition temperature is very high. The sol gel method is used for the fixation of selected dyes on the fibre surface. In this study , we compared basic, disperse and met al complex dyes. The properties of coloured textiles were tested by standard and modified fastness tests. The stability to temperature, washing and light was different according the basic properties of the used dyes. The results of the tests are discussed in this paper. The process of dyeing fibres with sol simultaneously results in reasonable dye fastnesses to the fibres; at the same time, bright and dark shades can also be obtained. The sol used is based on the blending of 3-trimethoxysilyl propyl methacrylate in isoprop anol with supporting chemicals (water , HCl, benzoyl peroxide).

Content available remote Dyeing of sulfonation and crosslinked cotton fabric
EN
Cotton fabrics were modified by different methods such as oxidation, sulfonation and crosslinking processes. The modified and unmodified fabrics were subjected to weight measurements, water absorbency and strength tests. In SEM analysis, modified fabrics showed improved woven pattern with less protruding fibres in x 75 magnification and swollen smooth rod like appearances in x 1500 magnification than in unmodified fabrics. Modified fabrics were dyed with Reactive Red 120 and Direct Blue 86 under alkaline condition with low salt content. The modified fabrics showed improved dye uptake than unmodified fabric. Crosslinking modification was found to be very effective than sulfonation modification. Dye uptake and wet fastness properties were improved for modified fabrics. For a 0.5% dye concentration study, the dye uptake obtained for modifications is ranked as UM < 1W < 2W < 4W < 3W in reactive dyeing and UM < 1W < 4W <2W <3W in direct dyeing.
