The aim of this study is to present analyses carried out in higher education buildings in terms of accessibility for people with physical disabilities. The essence of the research is to find solutions that improve both the physical and mental condition of people with reduced mobility. Methodology of this paper was introduced on two levels. First was analysis of literature and design solutions, that have a direct impact on the movement of disabled students and employees around educational institutions. Second was preparation of sketches and diagrams presenting the research results (graphical method). The above research and analyses extend the study field on the concept of movement of people with physical disabilities to issues of educational facilities and present a series of design guidelines, that can be proposed in this type of space. People with physical disabilities are very often excluded from academic life due to insufficient adaptation of facilities to their needs and capabilities. Well organized space ensures physical safety, protecting the user from injuries, while the design of the aesthetics of the interior space can contribute to the improvement of mental health.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie analiz przeprowadzonych w obiektach szkolnictwa wyższego pod kątem dostępności dla osób niepełnosprawnych ruchowo. Istotą badań jest wyszukanie rozwiązań poprawiających zarówno kondycję fizyczną, jak i psychiczną osób o ograniczonej zdolności poruszania się. Metodologia pracy obejmuje dwie płaszczyzny badań. Pierwsza to analiza pozycji literaturowych oraz rozwiązań projektowych mających bezpośredni wpływ na poruszanie się niepełnosprawnych studentów i pracowników po placówkach edukacyjnych. Druga obejmuje sporządzenie szkiców oraz schematów prezentujących wyniki badań (metoda graficzna). Powyższe badania i analizy rozszerzają pole badawcze poruszania się osób niepełnosprawnych ruchowo o problematykę obiektów szkolnictwa, a także prezentują serię wskazówek projektowych możliwych do zaproponowania w tego typu przestrzeniach. Osoby niepełnosprawne ruchowo bardzo często zostają wykluczone z życia akademickiego ze względu na niedostateczne dostosowanie obiektów do ich potrzeb i możliwości. Odpowiednio zorganizowana przestrzeń zapewnia bezpieczeństwo fizyczne, chroniąc użytkownika od urazów, natomiast projekt estetyki pomieszczeń może się przyczynić do poprawy zdrowia psychicznego.

Wykorzystanie prefabrykowanych elementów architektonicznych na elewacjach budynków ma w Polsce długą tradycję. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na aspekt trwałości elementów w przypadku takiego zastosowania na przykładzie kościoła św. Michała Archanioła w Warszawie, w którym frontowa elewacja wykonana jest z ażurowych prefabrykatów betonowych. Po wieloletnim okresie użytkowania elementy te wymagają naprawy, co stanowi ogromne wyzwanie techniczne. Analiza charakteru uszkodzeń pozwala oszacować zakres niezbędnych napraw i w świetle aktualnych przepisów skłania do refleksji nad kształtowaniem trwałości elementów architektonicznych z betonu prefabrykowanego.

The use of prefabricated architectural elements on building facades has a long tradition in Poland. The article highlights the aspect of the durability of elements in such applications, indicating the example of Church of St. Michael Archangel in Warsaw, where the front elevation is made of architectural concrete prefabricates. After many years of use, these elements require repair, which is a technical challenge. The analysis of the nature of the damage allows to estimate a wide range of necessary repairs and, in the light of the current regulations, prompts reflection in the field of shaping the durability of architectural elements made of prefabricated concrete.

Materiał kompozytowy jest najbardziej popularnym materiałem wykorzystywanym w stomatologii odtwórczej. Jedną z jego najważniejszych zalet jest wysoka estetyka możliwa do osiągnięcia dzięki szerokiej gamie kolorystycznej. W celu uproszczenia pracy lekarzom klinicystom, zarówno stomatologii zachowawczej, dziecięcej, jak i protetyki, wprowadzono ujednolicony szablon kolorystyczny wg VITA. Producenci dostępnych na rynku materiałów stomatologicznych do bezpośredniej rekonstrukcji zębów oferują zestawy kompozytów o nazewnictwie barwy opartym wg wspomnianego kolornika. Zaobserwowano jednak istotne różnice między barwą materiału odtwórczego określoną przez klinicystę na podstawie kolornika a uzyskanym finalnym efektem kolorystycznym wypełnienia. W pracy podjęto zagadnienie porównania w warunkach doświadczalnych barwy próbki spolimeryzowanego materiału złożonego z barwą sugerowaną przez producenta.

A composite material is the most popular material used in restorative dentistry. One of its main advantages is the high aesthetics achievable with a wide range of colors. In order to simplify the work of clinicians, both conservative dentistry, pediatric and prosthetics, introduced a unified template color by VITA. Manufacturers of dental materials available on the market, to direct tooth reconstruction offer sets of composites- based naming colors mentioned by the shade guide. However, it has been observed a significant differences between the color of the restorative material as determined by the clinician based on the shade guide and the final color result of the filling. The paper presents an the problem of the comparison under the experimental conditions color of the sample of polymerized composite material with the color recommended by producer.

Contemporary production plants are not designed to service the technology only, acting as a mere cladding (more on this in the previous parts of the series), but can also play an important representative role, acting as a manufacturer's visit card, or - generally speaking – being an image of the whole brand. Usually architect has a limited range of formal solutions at his disposal, because of the budget issues. Despite that, cost-efficient and visually powerful solutions are found, usually based on the designers' ability to use creatively the limited number of possible spatial means to provide a aesthetically pleasing result.

Objective: The objective was to perform a systematic literature review to report the state of the art on the topic of transparent orthodontic archwires. Methods: The inclusion criteria: (1) transparent or translucent orthodontic wire, (2) production method presented, (3) physical properties tested. The exclusion criteria: (1) coated esthetic archwires, (2) repetitive publications without language limitations. Databases searched: Medline (via PubMed), Scopus, Embase and Ovid (from 1970.01.01 to 2016.02.01). Additional hand search was performed. The manual search was performed in selected orthodontic journals: American Journal of Orthodontic and Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics (from 1995 to 2016.02.01). Results: Among 342 papers, 22 were selected for systematic review and divided into two groups: those commercially available on the market and those in research and development stage. The drawbacks associated with mechanical properties limit their widespread clinical use. Conclusions: The papers reported different materials presenting different characteristics by various methodology. For this reason it was difficult to objectively compare obtained results. Characterization of translucent archwires properties has shown that further studies are required to confirm the usefulness of this type of wires, also in clinical practice.

30 października br. oddano do użytku nową kładkę pieszo-rowerową przez rzekę San w Przemyślu. Ten – ciekawy pod względem konstrukcyjnym oraz niewątpliwie cieszący oko – obiekt został także doceniony w VII edycji Konkursu Mostowego im. Maksymiliana Wolffa organizowanego przez magazyn „Mosty”, zdobywając nagrodę główną w kategorii „realizacja projektu kładki dla pieszych”.

The article discusses the selected failures in the insulations systems of buildings often caused by low awareness of the performers. Divided into two groups: failures directly related to warming functionality and aesthetic failures. While in the literature there is knowledge in dealing with the commission of errors by operators in the correct functionality of insulation, it is still difficult to explain the causes of many aesthetic shortcomings, which may be a sign of serious threats. This paper explains same of the causes of such failures, as well as same hints to help you prevent them.

The author is describing the subject of esthetics in historic book printing in Warsaw printing hauses from 15th up to mid 20th century. He starts a polemics against a well grounded assumption among book historians that Warsaw printers in their origins (up to the end of 18th century) created products of inferior quality, when the material book form is considered. A number of examples are shown to present the craftsmanship of printers in the given period. The paper describes also the conjunction between visual form of book printed in Warsaw and the styles and tendencies in contemporary European typography and graphic arts. International trade liaisons, including close cooperation, employing foreign specialists like designers, printers and publishers, as well as quick reactions for the technology advances and implementing the novelties in Warsaw printing houses are mentioned.

Budowa drogi S3 obejmowała realizację 4 węzłów drogowych, 81 obiektów inżynierskich, 120 przepustów, 2 obwodów utrzymania i 10 miejsc obsługi podróżnych. Spośród obiektów wybudowanych nad drogą S3 opisano cztery - ze względu na ich walory konstrukcyjne i estetyczne. Zwrócono uwagę na problemy estetyki obiektów mostowych i ich wpisania w otaczający krajobraz.

The article presents the problem related to the appearance of the road viaduct built on the itinerary of the S3 express road. Viaducts built on the high roads and express roads shall be well incorporated into the surrounding landscape and not cause any disturbance of the perception with their users. A good design accent introduced at a 100 km section a few nice viaduct constructions to help the users avoid the feeling of being bored by the monotony of the surrounding.
