The publication presents the issues of philosophical anthropology fundamental for Leszek Kołakowski's interests, which attempt not only at finding answers but also asking questions about the condition of human nature, the constitutive conditions for human existence in the transcendental dimension, the essence of tensions and conflicts that may pose a threat to the survival of the European civilization, and, finally, questions about whether there are orientation marks and points of support that constitute the necessary conditions for its further existence and development. This area of concern places the human being at the heart of the matter as a causal being - taking action and endowed with freedom of will which presupposes the ability to do good and evil. Understood in this dimension, exceeding the features of zoological species, participates in the moral and cognitive sphere, in the sphere of unconditional moral imperatives, which cannot be empirically determined. Humanity transcends the properties of nature and is not defined by specific determinants that distinguish it from other species. Therefore, manhood is a moral notion, an attempt to make an endless intellectual effort to marginalize the natural instincts in order to convince people that the man is a moral being, a self-contained goal, not a means.

Throughout centuries philosophers have attempted to understand the disparity between the conscious experience and the material world – i.e., the problem of consciousness and the apparent mind–body dualism. Achievements in the fields of biology, neurology, and information science in the last century granted us more insight into processes that govern our minds. While there are still many mysteries to be solved when it comes to fully understanding the inner workings of our brains, new discoveries suggest stepping away from the metaphysical philosophy of mind, and closer to the computational viewpoint. In light of the advent of strong artificial intelligence and the development of increasingly complex artificial life models and simulations, we need a well-defined, formal theory of consciousness. In order to facilitate this, in this work we introduce mappism. Mappism is a framework in which alternative views on consciousness can be formally expressed in a uniform way, thus allowing one to analyze and compare existing theories, and enforcing the use of the language of mathematics, i.e, explicit functions and variables. Using this framework, we describe classical and artificial life approaches to consciousness.

The publication discusses the social situation of man and his moral condition conditioned by revolutionary historical and social changes. The philosopher searches for an answer to the question about the meaning of human presence in the world and whether this sense can be found.

Electroencephalograph (EEG) data provide insight into the interconnections and relationships between various cognitive states and their corresponding brain dynamics, by demonstrating dynamic connections between brain regions at different frequency bands. While sensory input tends to stimulate neural activity in different frequency bands, peaceful states of being and self-induced meditation tend to produce activity in the mid-range (Alpha). These studies were conducted with the aim of: (a) testing different equipment in order to assess two (2) different EEG technologies together with their benefits and limitations and (b) having an initial impression of different brain states associated with different experimental modalities and tasks, by analyzing the spatial and temporal power spectrum and applying our movie making methodology to engage in qualitative exploration via the art of encephalography. This study complements our previous study of measuring multichannel EEG brain dynamics using MINDO48 equipment associated with three experimental modalities measured both in the laboratory and the natural environment. Together with Hilbert analysis, we conjecture, the results will provide us with the tools to engage in more complex brain dynamics and mental states, such as Meditation, Mathematical Audio Lectures, Music Induced Meditation, and Mental Arithmetic Exercises. This paper focuses on open eye and closed eye conditions, as well as meditation states in laboratory conditions. We assess similarities and differences between experimental modalities and their associated brain states as well as differences between the different tools for analysis and equipment.

Z systemem Państwowe Ratownictwo Medyczne współpracują służby ustawowo powołane do niesienia pomocy osobom w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego. Jednostki te udzielają kwalifikowanej pierwszej pomocy osobom znajdującym się w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego. Kwalifikowana pierwsza pomoc to czynności podejmowane przez ratownika wobec osoby w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego. Ratownik może wykonywać następujące czynności: prowadzić resuscytację krążeniowo-oddechową, bezprzyrządową i przyrządową, z podaniem tlenu oraz zastosowaniem według wskazań defibrylatora zautomatyzowanego, tamować krwotoki zewnętrzne i opatrywać rany, unieruchamiać złamania i podejrzenia złamań kości oraz zwichnięć, stosować ochronę przed wychłodzeniem lub przegrzaniem, prowadzić wstępne postępowanie przeciwwstrząsowe poprzez właściwe ułożenie osób w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego, ochronę termiczną osób w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego, stosować tlenoterapię bierną, ewakuować z miejsca zdarzenia osoby w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego, udzielić wsparcia psychicznego osobom w stanie nagłego zagrożenia zdrowotnego, prowadzić wstępną segregację medyczną. W sytuacji, gdy na miejscu zdarzenia są jednostki systemu Państwowe Ratownictwo Medyczne, ratownicy ze służb współpracujących z systemem wykonują działania ratownicze wynikające ze specyfiki służby oraz stanowią pomoc i wsparcie w wykonywaniu medycznych działań ratowniczych przez ratowników z jednostek systemu. Szanse przeżycia poszkodowanych z ciężkimi obrażeniami ciała zależą od czasu, w którym zostanie im udzielona pomoc. Usystematyzowanie oceny poszkodowanego "od głowy do stóp" i poprawna znajomość procedur ratowniczych gwarantuje, że udzielanie kwalifikowanej pierwszej pomocy przez ratowników w istotny sposób wpływa na szanse przeżycia poszkodowanego. Bardzo ważnym aspektem w działaniach ratowniczych jest współpraca wszystkich ratowników oraz współpraca pomiędzy służbami ratowniczymi, ponieważ wiele czynności należy wykonywać równocześnie. Sekwencja założeń taktycznych w ratownictwie medycznym ma na celu ustalenie kolejności działania ratowników w chwili przybycia na miejsce zdarzenia do momentu przekazania meldunku Kierującemu Działaniem Ratowniczym (KDR). Podział zadań z zakresu kwalifikowanej pierwszej pomocy między poszczególnych ratowników ma wpływ na sprawność wykonywania procedur ratowniczych, czyli czas, w jakim osobie poszkodowanej zostanie udzielona niezbędna pomoc. Udzielając pomocy poszkodowanemu, należy pamiętać o tym, że wszystkie działania ratownicze powinny być ukierunkowane na jak najszybsze udzielenie pomocy poszkodowanemu, a czynności ratujące życie mają pierwszeństwo przed czynnościami ratującymi zdrowie. Dobra znajomość procedur ratowniczych i ciągłe ćwiczenia mają wpływ na jakość i szybkość działań z zakresu kwalifikowanej pierwszej pomocy. Ponadto ratownicy znający dobrze procedury ratownicze będą działać spokojnie i zdecydowanie. Taki sposób postępowania wpływa na dobre samopoczucie poszkodowanego i jest ważnym elementem wsparcia psychicznego.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are supported by other services which were created by government to help people in dire need. These services provide treatment to those in need of urgent medical care. Acute medical care (or professional first aid) is a set of actions performed by paramedic to save those in danger. Paramedic is entitled to following: perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with or without equipment, with oxygen administration due to Automated External Defibrillator's (AED) indications, stop internal haemorrhages, treat wounds, manage fractures or dislocations, protect against hypothermia and overheating, provide preliminary anti shock treatment by placing the casualty in the proper position, provide thermal protection of casualties, use passive oxygen administration, evacuate people in need of urgent medical care, provide mental support for casualties, conduct preliminary medical selection. In a situation when both EMS and supportive services arrive on the spot the latter perform their assigned duties as well as they assist EMS rescuers' actions. The speed of rescue operation is crucial for the survival of casualties with severe injuries. Structured patients evaluation and thorough knowledge of rescue procedures can guarantee that acute medical care has crucial influence on casualty.s survival chances. The rescuers' cooperation as well as the emergency services cooperation is very important aspect in rescue operations because some actions are done simultaneously. The tactic sequence in medical rescue aims at establishing the order of actions performed by paramedics from the moment they arrive on the spot until they report back to Chief Rescue Coordinator. Assignment of acute medical care duties influences efficiency of rescue procedures, meaning the time in which casualty is given help. When dealing with first aid one has to bear in mind that all rescue actions must provide help as fast as possible and life saving procedures are prior to health saving procedures. Vast knowledge of rescue procedures and constant drills influence acute medical care actions. quality and speed. What is more paramedics who know rescue procedures very well, will act calmly and decisively. Such behaviour affects casualty.s well-being and is an important aspect of mental support.

Świadomość korozyjna jest oparta na wiedzy wyniesionej z kształcenia na poziomie szkoły średniej i wyższej oraz informacji dostarczanych przez środki masowego przekazu. Absolwenci kilku kierunków uczelni technicznych uzyskują, a przynajmniej powinni uzyskiwać, podstawowe wiadomości o procesach korozji i metodach jej zapobiegania. W programach studiów nie ma jednak specjalistycznej wiedzy z tego zakresu. Przyszli specjaliści od ochrony przeciwkorozyjnej zdobywają taką wiedzę poprzez ustawiczne dokształcanie (kursy podyplomowe, szkolenia, terminowanie u doświadczonych fachowców). Pomocne mogą być też podręczniki poświęcone korozji. Jednak w wielu popularnych podręcznikach występują niespójności przy omawianiu problemów korozyjnych. Wskazano przykłady i niepożądane konsekwencje takich niespójności. Przytoczono też kilka niefortunnych informacji na temat korozji rozpowszechnianych w środkach masowego przekazu.

The corrosion consciousness is based of the knowledge taken from high school and university educations as well as information extracted from mass media. Graduates from several courses in technical universities acquire, or at least should acquire, basic information on corrosion and corrosion protection. However, the university courses do not offer specialistic knowledge on corrosion. Prospective corrosion engineers acquire this knowledge by the continuing education (post-diploma courses, workshops, trainings, apprenticeships at skilled professionals). Textbooks devoted to corrosion are also useful. However, some inconsistencies, concerning corrosion issues, occur in popular textbooks. Examples of such inconsistencies and resulting misunderstandings were shown. Some awkward pieces of information about corrosion issues, disseminated in mass media, were also indicated.

Metoda badań polegała na przeprowadzeniu z mieszkańcami wywiadów, za pomocą których analizowano poczucie przywiązania społeczności lokalnej do miejsca jej życia i do własnej odrębności kulturowej oraz jej opinię o działalności i aktywności władz samorządowych. Przeprowadzono sondę społeczną z elitami miast - mieszkańcami, którzy mają odmienne od przeciętnego spojrzenie na przestrzeń z racji swojego zawodu lub zainteresowań (na przykład z autorami książek o tych miastach).

The research method involved carrying out the interviews with inhabitants by means of which a sense of attachment of local community to the place they live in, their cultural identity, and the opinions of that community about the actions and activites of a town council were studied. Sociological surveys were conducted with the elite class of these towns - the inhabitants who have a different, in comparison to a common one, outlook on space, by virtue of their profession or interests (e.g. with book authors about these towns).

This paper presents a project executing within the framework of COST Action BM0605: Consciousness: A Trans-disciplinary, Integrated Approach. The research is centred on neurophysiological experiments to image brain function in diseases in which the phenomenon of consciousness plays an important role. The fundamental problem studied in this project will be an investigation of the relation between consciousness and speech perception. The study will be conducted using electroencephalographic methods on subjects with Auditory Processing Disorders.

During the functioning of systems sometimes unknown events occur - being by nature dangerous, redoubtable and destructive events. The possibility of a preventive observation by diagnosing methods assures minimizing the consequences of such events. In the case of a sometimes appearing disturbing process of the UUUU type: Unforeseeable (probability), Unexpected/Sudden (time), Unknown (knowledge) or Ungovernable (increments), diagnostic generally is not introduced in the functioning of technical systems. As usual, because of lack of consciousness and awareness of the character of action in such a specific situation, one behaves and acts ineffectively or even wrong. The methodological ordering of diagnosing in UUUU... situations in technical systems will permit to improve diagnosing by utilizing already existing possibilities or by building new tools for conscious, new conditions

The lack of a well-defined concept of consciousness which could be accessible from both the mental and neural aspects is a serious obstruction in understanding the mind. This article is an attempt to introduce a concept of the content space which is definable from the mental side but also relates to neural models. The content space is defined as a set of all possible contents of consciousness, irrespective of the fact whether the each content corresponds to the already-realized conscious experience or not. The conscious event at any moment can be regarded as a result of the past, including all the effects from the outside and the inside of the brain, and the conscious event tends to produce effects on the inside and outside of the brain. This feature can be interpreted as a mental aspect of the neural activity, so that firing of a specific neuron corresponds to a conscious event specific to a certain element of the content space. By introducing the concept of the content space, the neural and mental facets are understood as two different facets of the same event. A specific feature of the contents of the consciousness in humans is that they can be expressed by language. Thus, the linguistic accessibility or the introspection is limited by the content space. According to this assumption, unconscious events cannot be mental but are purely neural. Consequently, no room remains to suspect any mysterious neural instrument in which unconscious mental processes are took place. The self and subjectivity have been shown to be comprehensible without assuming any unknown function.

The author devised the Theory of Genetic Immortality and a new branch of pedagogy - The Holistic Pedagogy. He presents the new holistic multidisciplinary view of several fundamental notions, as life, consciousness, personal identity, heredity, genetic memory, etc. In Accordance with to the above, the revision of to-date terminology is proposed. The author claims the notion of heredity can be understood as continuity of the parents' life in children. Therefore, the chain of life and consciousness has not been interrupted despite the death of an individual. Methods applied by the author during the investigation were: introspection, logic (logistics), observation, psychometric and physiometric tests, questionnaires, as well as spectrum of the photon emission (in cooperation with other researchers). The program of investigation including the state of relxation and the peculiar state of consciousness named by the author "the state undergoing no change" or "universal state of consciousness" was extended to about 1000 schoolboys and schoolgirls, and about 5000 university students.

Autor jest twórcą Teorii Nieśmiertelności Genetycznej i nowego kierunku w pedagogice - Pedagogiki Holisycznej. Proponuje on nowy pogląd multidyscyplinarny, dotyczący szeregu podstawowych terminów: życia, świadomości, tożsamości osobniczej, dziedziczności, pamięci genetycznej itp. Zdaniem autora, pojęcie dziedziczności winno być interpretowane jako kontynuacja życia rodziców przez potomstwo. Dlatego łańcuch życia i świadomości nie zostaje przerwany mimo śmierci danego indywiduum. Metody zastosowane przez autora w trakcie badań były następujące: introspekcja, logika (logistyka), obserwacja, testy psychologiczne i fizjologiczne, ankieta, jak również badanie emisji fotonowej (we współpracy z innymi badaczami). Program badań, uwzględniający stan relaksacji oraz szczególny stan świadomości nazwany przez autora „stanem nie podlegającym zmianom" lub „uniwersalnym stanem świadomości, objął około 1000 młodzieży szkolnej obojga płci oraz około 5000 studentów wyższych uczelni.

This paper proposes a multilevel theory of the nature of information. It reviews three historical contexts for the discussion of information. The first is the AI context of the Shannon-Weaver mathematical theory of communication. The second is the context of syntax and semantics. And the third is the context of human consciousness. The paper seeks to unify these seemingly disparate contexts though a contemporary understanding of Charles Peirce's philosophy of semiotics.
