Praca przedstawia analizę aktywności sublimacyjnej hipotetycznej komety w funkcji jej odległości heliocentrycznej. W pracy pokazano, że zmiana jasności obiektu kometarnego dla ustalonej odległości heliocentrycznej zależy istotnie od zmiany wielkości tej części powierzchni jądra komety, która jest aktywna sublimacyjnie. Praca obejmuje również związaną z tym dyskusję na temat widoczności wybranych komet w zależności od stopnia zanieczyszczenia światłem nieba nocnego.

The paper presents an analysis of the sublimation activity of a hypothetical comet as a function of its heliocentric distance. The study shows that the change in brightness of the comet for a fixed heliocentric distance depends significantly on the change in the size of this part of the comet nucleus surface, which is sublimation active. The paper also includes the related discussion of visibility of the selected comets depending on the degree of light pollution of the night sky.

Experimental studies of sublimation of highly volatile ices in relevance to the ices of the solar system

Studies of sublimation of complex ices prepared by deposition of gaseous CO, CH4, N2, and NH3 molecules on a cold plate have been performed. The low pressure and low temperature system was used: 10−9–10−5 mbar and the lowermost temperature 10 K. Diagnostic of composition of evaporates (at an actual temperature) was done by means of the mass spectrometer. The latter allowed following simultaneously the partial pressure of five different ions or radicals escaping from the substrate. It has been found that highly volatile molecules that were used simultaneously with the low volatile ones to form the complex ices (mixtures or clathrates) present a different sublimation pattern than the sublimation of pure high-volatile ices. In particular, the high-volatile component sublimes at two or even three different temperature regimes: At low temperature that is typical for sublimation of this component, as well as at much higher temperatures. This effect seems to be important when degassing and outbursts from cometary nuclei are considered. It can be also important for modeling of cryovolcanic processes on the icy satellites.

An original mechanical device designed to insert a penetrator into a cometary nucleus in an almost gravityfree environment is described. The device comprises a hammer and a power supply system that stores electrical energy in a capacitor. The accumulated energy is discharged through a coil forming a part of electromagnetic circuit that accelerates the hammer. The efficiency of converting the electrical energy to kinetic energy of the hammer is not very high (amounts to about 25%), but the system is very reliable. Additionally, the hammer energy can be chosen from four power settings, hence adjustment of the stroke's strength to nucleus hard- ness is possible. The device passed many mechanical, func- tional, thermal and vibration tests and was improved from one model to another. The final, flight model was integrated with the lander Philae and started its space journey to comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko in March 2004.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono problem sztucznie wywołanego świecenia nocnego nieba, tzw. zanieczyszczenia świetlnego, który to problem w warunkach polskich dopiero staje się zauważalny. Opisano historię zagadnienia, przyczyny powstawania "zanieczyszczenia świetlnego", jego rodzaje, skutki przez niego wywołane oraz sposoby przeciwdziałania. Przedstawiono nową, prostą, tanią i powszechnie dostępną metodę określania wielkości "zanieczyszczenia świetlnego", opartą na obserwacjach słabych komet, przeprowadzono testy jej poprawności oraz zaprezentowano pierwsze wyniki otrzymane za jej pomocą.

The aim of this paper is the presentation of the problem of the artificial night sky lighting, the so called "light pollution", which just become appreciable in Poland. The history of the problem, causes of the "light pollution" originating, types, affects on the environment, and the methods of counteraction, were described. The new, innovatory, simple, cheap, and easy to attain method of determination of the "light pollution" quantity, based on the dim comets amateur observations, was presented. The tests of this method correctness were done and the first results were presented.

A general outline of the modern view of the Solar System is presented. Special attention is given to the consequence of the last discoveries of various types of asteroids and comets. Dynamical history of those small bodies plays an important part in the evolution of the Solar Systems.
