Landslides are a phenomenon commonly found on the slopes of valleys and water bodies, as well as areas of rivers, embankments and slopes of excavations. Sudden landslides in these areas can be monitored using photogrammetric technique. The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of close-range photogrammetry (CRP) and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) to conduct monitoring of surface changes that have taken place due to geodynamic processes. The studies were conducted on a 22-m section of the Vistula River scarp in P³ock. Terrestrial images, taken three times every six months, as well as terrestrial laser scanner measurements were used to determine the morphological changes occurring on a portion of the Vistula River scarp in Płock in one year. Based on the measurements, a thick cloud of points and a three-dimensional terrain model of the area of interest were obtained each time. Next, a comparative analysis of models taken at different times was carried out. Results of measurements allowed demonstrating the overall stability of the slope, i.e. the lack of morphological changes in the analysed period, with minor changes in some of its regions (loss of soil mass in the northern part and the growth in the southern part of the test area). The study shows that, in morphologically difficult areas, CRPcan provide information about the direction and magnitude of deformation, when changes are formed rapidly and contribute to large (at least several-decimetre) geodynamic changes.

The article presents the concept of 3D modelling from immersive video. The first part of the article presents current approaches to 3D modelling from panoramas, from image-based modelling programs, via manual elaboration of objects from panoramas, to automatic acquisition of the point cloud from dense matching of panoramas. The second part of the article discusses immersive video, numerous applications of this new medium and the methods of imaging all-around space with cameras capable of recording a 360-degree video. The paper investigates the legitimacy of using a large number of immersive images of relatively low resolution in 3D modelling. If the immersive camera moves along the set trajectory, the number of low resolution panoramas taken in this process will facilitate creation of metric 3D models. An examination of the test field was performed with a Ladybug®3 camera. Image orientation and a textured 3D model were developed in Agisoft Photoscan. The paper investigates how such factors as the method of stitching images into panoramas, the selection of the sphere radius, the image file format and a density of panoramas affect the 3D modelling process. The results present the validity of further research in this area.
The shore zone of Jeziorsko Reservoir, located in central Poland, is subject to intense erosional processes, mainly abrasion, which lead to significant morphology transformation of the shore and, in some cases, to the formation of cliffs. The use of close-range photogrammetry allows evaluating the erosion rate and the identificationof the area of these changes. Currently, the morphometric data on all cliffs located on the east shore of Jeziorsko Reservoir are obtained with the close-range photogrammetry technique. The presented surveys are the first stage of long-term monitoring of the east shore of Jeziorsko Reservoir. The morphometric data of the shore will be collected over the next several years. It will enable to determine the rate and direction of abrasion processes. Combined with textural analysis of sediments, it will also allow defining the influence of geological structures on the cliff development.
The contribution deals with the analysis of the present acquisition methods of spatial information about the objects with spatial composition. Although the field of acquisition of spatial information is quite extensive, attention is focused on the present most commonly used methods as spatial polar method, close-range photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning. Each of these methods has its specific characteristics resulting to advantages and disadvantages. The core of analysis is to test the accuracy of the achieved results obtained by measurement on the experimental point field. The contribution aim is to bring to reader the answers to the questions, which of these methods is suitable or unsuitable for the particular case of the spatial information acquisition in terms of statistical testing its accuracy.

The aim of this paper is the analysis of surface disfigurement for construction elements such as fragment of end-plates, which were subjected to various, deforming loads, with a usage of image-based matching. 32 pieces of end-plates were a subject of experiment where digital images from non-metric camera were used. The project was performed on Z/I Imaging workstation with a usage of the module equipped with image matching option. Visualization of surfaces deformation was shown in respect to theoretical, non-deformed plane in ArcGIS 9.3. software. Thus it was possible to obtain deformation values at any point on the surface for object of interest. Creation of digital surface models and analysis of their deformations allowed for the assessment (made by construction engineers) of deformation mechanisms for end-plates with different thickness, height and with varying reinforcement ratio of the concrete slab. This research helped to draw a conclusion concerning design and load capacity assignment for steel joints and composite skeletal construction. Before steel joints with their end-plates were subject of photogrammetric modeling, they had been disfigured by experimental loads in laboratory of Department of Building Construction in Faculty of Civil Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology. Such plates were a subject of photogrammetric reconstruction in Department of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Science, where digital surface model of mentioned objects were reconstructed and presented in graphic and numerical formats.

Automatic processes of manufacturing supervision with digital cameras often need to employ the Scheimpflug condition. This is quite common when registering profiles with a laser light. The Scheimplug condition is applied in this case because usually the registration plane cannot be set in parallel to the plane of a laser profile. Moreover, the low-light conditions forcing the use of large diaphragm size and low image acquisition distance imply that the depth of field is insufficient. Setting up three planes: lens main, image and profile in a way that they intersect within one edge, causes that the axis of the lens impales image plane at a point distant from the principal point, which in the analytical evaluation of the photogrammetric networks is adopted as the best-distortionsymmetry point. The Scheimpflug condition causes that the lens distortion (a feature significantly influencing the central projection) is not symmetrical around the principal point and, assuming this point as the origin of radial rays, leads to significant reduction of accuracy of measurement. A solution to this problem is to include the incidence angle between the detector array and lens main planes in the calibration parameters and their evaluation in the self-calibration network adjustment. This best solution from the substantive point of view thus needs elaboration of a specific software for self-calibration bundle adjustment, which is costly and time consuming. In this paper the different – computationally easier methods for the evaluation of image errors for the images taken considering the use of a camera with the Scheimpflug condition. The first method involves determination of interpolated corrections to measured coordinates based on a “deviation map” obtained from the projective transform of a planar, multi-point test-field on the image. The second method employs the evaluation of the best-distortion-symmetry point using the deviations evaluated after the projective transform, approximated by a radial and tangential distortion polynomial evaluated regarding this point. The research was conducted using real as well as simulated data.
Model powierzchni ciała człowieka o dokładności wyznaczenia jego punktów poniżej 1 mm uzyskano wykorzystując fotogrametryczny system bliskiego zasięgu PI3000 Topcon do opracowania pary zbieżnych zdjęć wykonanych cyfrowymi aparatami fotograficznymi. Poddano go analizom, wykorzystując programy: GeoMedia Professional z nakładką Grid oraz Idrisi-Andes. Przebieg kręgosłupa uzyskano drogą analiz DEM służących do detekcji spływu wody, zakładając zjawisko podobieństwa powierzchni pleców w rejonie kręgosłupa do doliny rzecznej.

Parameters defining posture defects are computed based on the spatial location of selected anatomical points of the human body, which include the elements of the osseous system transferred on the body surface using the palpation method. Thus, the very nature of measured points deteriorates the accuracy of posture rating parameters. Meanwhile, present measurement methods, including photogrammetric ones, allow obtaining the measurement accuracy highly exceeding that of measurement points marking. The research method described in this paper is based on an assumption that the shape of the body surface reflects the position of the osseous elements, which are significant for the posture disorder analysis. Therefore, one can find the necessary points by analysing the said surface. The model of the human body surface was acquired using PI3000close-range photogrammetry system by Topcon, with the accuracy of measured points of 1mm. Images used as an input for the PI3000 system were acquired by two digital cameras as convergent pairs. Afterwards, the model was analysed using GeoMedia Professional with Grid extension and Idrisi Andes software. The trace of the spine was determined using DEM analysis used for water flow detection, assuming the comparability of back surface near the spine to the river valley. When determining the posture disorders, the anatomical points which are most often used for the determination of the anthropometrical coordinate system are as follows: the C7 spinous process and the posterior superior iliac spine. Attempts at detecting them were performed initially by determining the spine line (GeoMedia), then by using the surface curvature (Idrisi Andes). During the second phase of detection it turned out that it was necessary to smooth the surface model, and that it was an indispensable condition for the correct classification of height forms.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wyników prac mających na celu próbę rekonstrukcji nieistniejącego obiektu architektonicznego. Przedstawiono etapy i wyniki badań związanych z fotogrametryczną rekonstrukcją nieistniejącego obiektu w oparciu o przedwojenne zdjęcia naziemne i lotnicze o nieznanych elementach orientacji. Do projektu wykorzystano zdjęcia wykonane niemetrycznymi kamerami, pochodzące z okresu 1900-1930. Do kalibracji zdjęć wykorzystano fotopunkty pomierzone na zdjęciach lotniczych, do tego celu użyto programu Dephos, kalibracje i rekonstrukcję wykonano w oprogramowaniu PhotoModeler i MicroStation. Zaproponowana metodyka polegająca na połączeniu archiwalnych zdjęć lotniczych i naziemnych pozwala na odtwarzanie wyglądu i rekonstrukcje wybranych obiektów. Prace te, prowadzone dzięki pomocy Muzeum Historii Fotografii w Krakowie, pozwolą na wirtualne zrekonstruowanie „zaginionych” obiektów.

The goal of this paper is to present results of work designed to develop technology for the reconstruction of buildings of architectural interest that no longer exist. The paper shows the stages in and results of investigations relating to the photogrammetric reconstruction of a no longer existing building on the basis of pre-war ground and aerial photos with unknown orientation elements. In addition to the creation of a 3D model of a building based on archive non-metric photos, the authors made attempts at obtaining selected details of architectural elements. The subject of the investigations was a villa owned by the Rożnowskis family, located in Kraków, near the Vistula, on a headland close to the Wawel Royal Castle. Both the villa, and the headland on which it had been constructed were flooded by the Vistula in the inter-war period, and at present they no longer exist. The research project utilised photos, which were made with the use of non-metric cameras in the period 1900-1930. Photo points measured on aerial images were later used for the calibration of these photos using the Dephos program. Calibration and reconstruction were carried out using the PhotoModeler and MicroStation software. The methodology as proposed under that approach consisted of the combination of archival aerial and ground photos, thus making it possible to reconstruct the appearance of selected buildings and to recreate them. This work, carried out thanks to the assistance of the local Museum of Photography in Kraków, will enable a virtual reconstruction of Kraków’s „lost” landmarks apprearing on photosin the museum’s collection. Finally, the technology will allow a wider use of archive photos and a reconstruction of heritage buildings and structures known from historical descriptions, as is the case in the city of Kraków.
Celem pracy jest opracowanie metody pomiaru służącego wyznaczeniu odkształcenia materiału walcowanego z plasteliny, mającego przed walcowaniem kształt wydrążonego walca, a w trakcie walcowania - stożka ściętego.

Developing a photogrammetrical method of measuring displacements and deformations of rolled objects was supported by the international project “Investigations of displacements and deformation during cold rolling of tubes in pilgering process” led by the Department of Metal Forming, Cracow University of Technology. Cold rolling of tubes in the pilgering process is one of the most advanced technologies of manufacturing copper pipes used in of water supply systems, heating systems, medical systems, etc. The method makes it is possible to increase the overall deformation by up to 95%. Research on effects of the new process on the size of deformation and behaviour of the rolled material is thus required. The study on the new pilgering process were carried out on a physical model of a pilger mill. The first tests were conducted on non-metallic materials (plasticine, wax), the metallic materials (lead, aluminum) being tested at the last stage of trials. The aim of the proposed measurement method was to determine the deformation of a rolled wax material. Before it was rolled, the object was shaped like a hollow cylinder, a bevelled cone being produced after rolling. Direct intersection of two convergent images, with known interior and exterior orientation, was proposed as the measurement method. For image acquisition, we used 10 Mpx. Nikon D80 digital SLR camera with Sigma EX DG 20/1.8 fixed focus lens. The photogrammetric model is based on the relative orientation of the two images. It is then transformed to the reference system defined by the ground control points using an absolute orientation. After such procedures, image orientation elements are determined. Thus, we are able to calculate 3D coordinates of arbitrary point visible on the two images. The images were acquired from a tripod constructed especially for the needs of the project. The tripod allows moving the camera along the mill. Because the object being deformed is photographed only from the top, to assess deformations on its entire surface the object has to be rotated around its main axis. The photogrammetrical models that are thus created have to be connected into a special reference system. The first results of photogrammetric measurements were obtained by using the VSD AGH digital stereo plotter. It allowed us to check the correctness of the method and to create the first deformation plots. Subsequently, the image measurements and the calculation of 3D coordinates were carried out by using the software developed by the authors. It allows loading image data in an arbitrary format, zooming, point measuring, taking lens distortion into consideration, carrying out the relative and absolute orientation, and computing coordinates of an arbitrary point with the control of the transverse parallax. The results, i.e., 3D coordinates of the points, are written to a text file. To find out what processes occur during rolling, it is necessary to acquire a large number of images and, consequently, to take numerous measurements on digital images. Thus, there is a need to automate the process of measuring the markers on the rolled object. Numerous tests were carried out using the Matlab programming environment. Two methods of measurement were tested: 1) to detect markers (region filtering) and to measure the center of markers (weighted center of mass); 2) multi-staged thinning on a binarized (using the otsu method) image. The first method, which gave better results, forms the basis of the Test Field Measurement Field Box software intended as providing automatic measurement of calibration images in a test field. However, further work on automation of strongly deformed model in which the markers lose their circular shape, is recommended.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono prace zmierzające do wizualizacji 3D zabytkowej kapliczki krakowskiej z zastosowaniem kamery cyfrowej aparatu komórkowego Nokia 6280 wyposażonej w obiektyw o stałym ogniskowaniu i dwumegapikselowa matryce CMOS.

This paper describes all work leading to 3D visualisation of shrine in Krakow with the use of digital camera equipped in fixed-focus lens and 2 Mpix CMOS sensor built in Nokia 6280 mobile phone. They were preceded by the study of photogrammetric suitability of the camera on special test field used for close-range cameras, and the results were compared with two other digital cameras: compact free focus Olympus Camedia C120 digital camera and Minolta Dynax 5D digital SLR camera equipped with 20 mm lens. Despite poor modelling of lens distortion in Nokia 6280 digital camera, an absolute accuracy of 1/1230 was achieved using photogrammetric intersection. This result enables the use of this camera as a tool for various measurement issues. A 3D visualization of shrine with as few as possible field works was an example of such issue. Based on images, photogrammetric models were built and vectorised using VSD software and stage-absolute orientation of photogrammetric models. Further development was carried out using AutoCAD software. A wireframe model was covered with photo-realistic and user-defined textures. Control of constructed model was based on a comparison of segments measured in the field and on the model. It showed that accuracy of photogrammetric measurement is sufficient for this type of object.
Umożliwi to dokładne określenie współrzędnych terenowych mierzonych punktów.

Taking surface images of precisely known (at the level of a theodolithe accuracy) elements of external orientation makes a rarely taken chance in terrestrial photogrammetry. Usually control points are used to increase the accuracy of the processing images when the orientation is not enough precisely known. It is particularly difficult - apparently - in case of photographs taken with non-metric cameras. The solution solved by the authors in the measurements of shape anomalies of slender buildings was based on a prototype instrument allowing the installation of a KODAK DCS 760 camera on a Theo 010 theodolithe. In the paper the authors present the results of studies enabling them to assess the accuracy of the orientation level of pictures. The described solution makes a new chance for the digital photogrammetry of a close-to-zero distance by widening the range of economically justified applications of this method in engineering and construction. The application of author's algorithms of the detection of features in a digital image allowed the analysis and measurement with a sub-pixel accuracy. This enables an accurate definition of the terrain co-ordinates of the measured points (elements).
