Freight mode choice is an important stage in shipping demand modeling. Transporting oil products using trucks between cities has several issues, including increased risk of accidents, higher transportation costs, environmental impact, and traffic congestion. Due to the absence of local studies, in addition to the few global studies that deal with freight mode selection used to transport oil derivatives between cities, the aim of the study is to develop transport mode choice models for trucks and trains transporting oil products between the interstate capital of Baghdad and the government of Basra for export. The revealed preference survey was used for 277 goods transport data collected with the help of personal interviews, questionnaires, and government institutions. The collected data were processed using two statistical approaches: binary logistic regression and Firth logistic regression. The study’s findings assist decision-makers in selecting sustainable modes of transport.

Vehicle-bridge collision accidents often result in significant economic losses and negative social effects, with heavy trucks being the most destructive to bridge structures. Therefore, this study uses a high-precision finite element method to investigate the impact resistance of concrete bridge piers when subjected to heavy truck impact. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: (1) When heavy trucks collide with bridge piers, two peak impact forces are generated due to engine and cargo collisions. The peak collision force generated by engine impact is 17.7% greater than that generated by cargo impact. (2) The damage to the bridge, when impacted by heavy trucks, is mainly concentrated on the affected pier. The primary damage characteristics of the bridge piers include punching shear damage at the impact point, tensile damage at the backside, and shear damage at the pier top. (3) The peak values of shear force and bending moment both appear at the bottom of the pier, and the combination of the two causes serious flexural-shear failure damage at the bottom of the pier. (4) The axial force is fluted along the pier height, and the axial force at the top and bottom of the pier is the largest, while the axial force at the middle section is relatively small. The instantaneous axial force of bridge pier will reach more than 2 times the axial force during operational period, seriously threatening the safety of bridge. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the impact resistance of concrete bridge piers when subjected to heavy truck impact, which can help engineers and policymakers in designing more robust and safer bridges.

Jeszcze dwa lata temu wydawało się, że ciężarówki zasilane gazem (przede wszystkim LNG oraz CNG) w krótkim czasie będą stanowiły znaczącą liczbę pojazdów przemierzających międzynarodowe szlaki. Przewoźnicy, zachęceni oszczędnościami, ruszyli na zakupy, rozszerzając swoje floty o pojazdy zasilane błękitnym paliwem. Powyższe podyktowane było przede wszystkim interesem ekonomicznym - zwolnieniem z opłat drogowych na terenie Niemiec. Nie bez znaczenia pozostaje również chęć wpisania się przez dane przedsiębiorstwo przewozowe w nurt proekologiczny, który zatacza coraz szersze kręgi również w branży TSL. W niniejszym artykule przedstawię problematykę prawno-ekonomiczną odoszącą się do pojazdów ciężarowych zasilanych gazem, wskaże na przyczyny rozwoju tej gałęzi produkcji pojazdow, obecne problemy, które towarzyszą przedsiębiorcom korzystającym z ciężarówek na gaz oraz zaproponuję zmiany w prawie, które mogłyby zmienić obecną sytuację.

Both the processes of welding and stamping are becoming increasingly more common in the construction of means of transport. Heavily loaded vehicle components should have good plastic properties so that cracks do not occur under operating conditions. Welded joints often crack, especially when they are subjected to additional treatments, such as stamping. In this article, the possibility of MAG welding (Metal Active Gas) of low-alloy steel using (MJC) micro-jet cooling was checked. Then, the made joints were subjected to a stamping test. Weld metal deposit (WMD) was carried out for the classic MAG process and compared with the modern method using MJC. Joint sand stamping tests of low-carbon and low-alloy steel were carried out. Welding with micro-jet-cooling could be considered promising due to the useful structure of WMD. This structure yields better mechanical properties, i.e. higher impact toughness for subzero service. For the first time, it was decided to check the pressure of the sheets welded with an innovative welding process. Then, the samples obtained by welding were subjected to the process of stamping. The result of stamping of welded sheets was investigated. The results of stamping show that only after correct welding process might the expected mechanical properties be achieved.

Zużycie energii elektrycznej w kopalniach odkrywkowych lub kamieniołomach może osiągnąć poziom zużycia energii w mieście, zużycie energii w kopalni zależy od rodzaju kopaliny i wielkości wydobycia. Przedstawiono zmiany popytu na energię elektryczną na świecie, ograniczenia zasobów energetycznych w Trzecim Świecie, proporcje udziału energii konwencjonalnej, konsekwencje środowiskowe wykorzystania energii oraz korzyści z wykorzystania z systemu autonomicznego produkcji energii elektrycznej. Wszystko to zachęca do poszukiwania alternatywnych źródeł energii. Autorzy zaproponowali w pracy system wyposażony w generator energii elektrycznej bazujący na odzysku energii z przemieszczania się ciężarówek w kopalniach odkrywkowych.

The article characterizes the impact of development of the automotive industry for the security system of the Polish state. The automotive industry in Poland was and still constitutes a significant share in generating GDP. This is about 10-12% (in different time periods). From 1950, it significantly stimulated the Polish economic situation, gave jobs, was a leaven of scientific and technical progress, made a significant contribution to exports, promoted local investments and created conditions for cooperation with other industries and science. It can be expected that in the next decade this share will remain unchanged or will increase. For this to happen, we need to develop a new sectoral policy for motorization in Poland. The potential and development of the automotive industry also has a significant impact on the defense of every country, including Poland. The safety of the country and its citizens depends on the efficiency of the transport system, which the key element is automotive industry. The Polish automotive industry associated with the modern road network and public transport systems enable the development of the Polish economy and increase its links with the global economy. The article presents that the automotive industry is an extremely important factor in managing the security and defense of the Polish state.

W artykule scharakteryzowano wpływ rozwoju przemysłu motoryzacyjnego na system bezpieczeństwa państwa. Przemysł motoryzacyjny w Polsce ma znaczący udział w generowaniu PKB. To około 10–12% (w różnych przedziałach czasowych). Od 1950 r. przemysł motoryzacyjny znacząco stymulował polską gospodarkę, dawał miejsca pracy, był zaczątkiem postępu naukowo-technicznego, wnosił znaczący wkład w eksport, promował lokalne inwestycje i tworzył warunki do współpracy z innymi branżami i nauką. W następnej dekadzie XXI wieku udział ten może nawet wzrosnąć. Aby tak się stało, należy opracować nową politykę sektorową dla motoryzacji w Polsce. Potencjał i rozwój przemysłu motoryzacyjnego ma również istotny wpływ na obronność. Bezpieczeństwo Polski zależy bowiem od wydajności systemu transportowego, którego kluczowym elementem jest przemysł motoryzacyjny. Branża motoryzacyjna powiązana z nowoczesną siecią drogową i systemami transportu publicznego umożliwia rozwój polskiej gospodarki i zwiększa jej powiązanie z gospodarką światową. Artykuł wskazuje, że przemysł motoryzacyjny jest niezwykle ważnym czynnikiem w zarządzaniu bezpieczeństwem i obroną państwa polskiego.

Ponad 1000 ozdobionych artystycznie ciężarówek, vanów i innych pojazdów użytkowych uczestniczyło w tegorocznej, 14 już edycji Międzynarodowego Zlotu Ciężarówek Tuningowanych MASTER TRUCK, która odbywała się w dniach 20-22 lipca tego roku1. Tym razem swoje maszyny prezentowali przedstawiciele 840 firm transportowych z Chorwacji, Danii, Finlandii, Niemiec, Polski, Szwajcarii i Szwecji, które podziwiało kilkadziesiąt tysięcy zwiedzających z kraju i zagranicy.

It is proposed to improve functioning of transport vehicles in a way of dismemberment of its main masses with the help of tractive-joint devices with the further joint of these masses. Prismatic and turning kinematic pairs are combined in the tractive-joint devices. Limited full-scale and extended computer experiments were held. They proved efficiency of the proposed construction decision. The worked out mathematical model allows to investigate the operating modes of operations of three-unit lorry convoys at different travelling terms.

One of the factors influencing the level of traffic noise is the type of vehicles moving on the roads. The paper presents comprehensive research, as conducted by the authors, which sought to assess the traffic noise level generated by different means of transport. A comparison is made between the noise generated by personal cars, a truck and different types of motorcycle. The maximum sound level and the equivalent sound level emitted by the investigated means of transport were analysed in the entire frequency band and in the individual 1/3 octave bands. Based on the research, conclusions have been formulated regarding the influence of the different types of means of transport and their speeds on traffic noise near a road, along with possible ways to reduce its level.

This paper is focused on the design of an auxiliary braking device for freight cableway trucks. The device provides continuous deceleration for the trucks before they arrive at the unloading station. It presents an alternative to manual deceleration, which poses safety hazards and is therefore a less suitable option. The design distinctly accommodates the spatial disposition at the unloading station and involves minimal interventions to the existing steel structure. Above all, it aims to increase safety by eliminating the need for human input in the process of decelerating the trucks before they are emptied. The proposed design solution was successfully applied in a real operation.

In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the strength of truck frames by integrating the MSC Adams software, for dynamics analysis of mechanical systems, and the NX Nastran/Femap software. At the same time, a method for reducing degrees of freedom is been developed based on the Craig–Bampton method. The interface is applied in order to calculate the strength of the frame in the selected truck, which runs on the test track. The selected model of truck can be treated as the virtual prototype that is useful in the design process.

Road transportation is playing an important role in almost all freight movements and contributes to the economy. It has the highest share in the modal division of transported goods. This situation is not about to change in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to change the current situation and modify rules and regulations, which could lead to a decrease in the number of accidents in either the EU or the USA. This paper identifies and compares different safety measures, rules and regulations governing the safety of truck transport in the EU and the USA. The number of accidents is a good safety indicator. Finally, suggestions for improvements in terms of truck drivers’ safety in the EU and the USA are proposed.

An experimental device and methodology for tire wear investigation are presented. An indirect method for wear evaluating is used. The experimental results in cases of straight motion with and without side slip are obtained. The distribution of wearing on tread pattern wide is evaluated in different running conditions.

Передставлены экспериментальная установка и методика оценки износа шин. Использован косвенный метод оценки износа. Получены экспериментальные результаты при движении при наличии и отсутствии бокового увода. Сделана оценка неравномерности износа по ширине шины при разных условиях движения.

The paper deals with the proposal of new maintenance system of air brake system on a semitrailer combination. The structure of semi-trailer and the current maintenance system of trailers are described with focus on the basic air brake system design. Analysis of wear and damage of air brake system components used on the semi-trailer combination based on real experience from practice and creation of the FMECA analysis of the system using software support are presented. Based on the analysis performed, a new system of maintenance was designed which was aimed at reduction of the risk related to failure consequences. The proposed system uses RPN (risk priority number) values resulting from the proposed preventive maintenance system and is compared with the currentmaintenance system. Main objective was to reduce the impact of any failure in any component on the air brake system. On the basis of the analysis subsequently new methods of failures detection of air brake system components, preventive measures, and suggested new intervals of preventive maintenance for the air brake system are also proposed. Proposed intervals of preventive maintenance execution are based on the calculation of the total costs associated with the consequences of failuresthat may arise from them and compared with costs associated with service inspections carried out on the analysed semi-trailer fleet. The proposed maintenance system has decreased RPN values in comparison with the current system and in practical operation is expected to increase safety of semitrailer combinations, thus minimize probability of a failure in any component of the air brake system.

The dependences of tire wear on the tire life are determined on the basis of the system measurements of residual tread depth in the actual operating conditions; the factors which influence the critical tire wear are analyzed. The prediction technique of the operation life and the tire changing is devised.

Artykuł obejmuje tematyką charakterystykę systemów bezpieczeństwa montowanych w pojazdach ciężarowych poprawiających bezpieczeństwo samego kierowcy jak i innych uczestników ruchu. Krótko je scharakteryzowano. Wskazano najczęstsze przyczyny powstawania wypadków z udziałem pojazdów samochodowych. Opracowano i przeprowadzono ankietę wśród wybranej losowo grupy kierowców w celu uzyskania informacji o ich świadomości odnośnie znajomości systemów bezpieczeństwa, w które wyposażono pojazdy ciężarowe.

Paper presents most important reasons of accidents involving vehicles. Results of questionnaire created and carried among random chosen group of driver are presented. This research gives information about knowledge of drivers on a new safety systems built- in modern trucks.

In this paper a procedure is presented for the analytical synthesis of optimal vibration isolation for a tractor semi-trailer system subjected to random excitation from the road. A general approach is discussed for a selected vibration isolation criterion. Especially elaborated procedure of complex matrix factorisation is applied. The general results are presented by numerical calculations and their graphical illustrations.
