Zbadano geometryczną konstrukcję tabliczek samoprzylepnych w kształcie litery W i ich przekroje w blokach książek, które uzupełniono zeszytami o różnej liczbie stron. Opisano kalkulację kosztów technologicznych klejowych kompozycji polimerowych nakładanych na grzbiety bloków książek w kształcie litery W. Taki sposób nakładania kleju przyczynia się do zminimalizowania kosztów jego obiegu na jednostkę produkcji, które są niezbędne, a jednocześnie wystarczające, aby proces technologicznego klejenia nasady bloków książki przebiegał właściwie. Wyniki badań pomagają wyjaśnić i obniżyć normatywne wskaźniki kosztu kompozycji klejowych, występujących w przemyśle poligraficznym, w celu zaoszczędzenia drogich materiałów wiążących.

The geometric construction of W-shaped adhesive plates and their cross-sectional areas in book blocks, which are completed with notebooks with different number of pages, has been studied. The calculation of technological costs of adhesive polymer compositions for edging W-shaped roots of book blocks is presented. It contributes to the minimum circulation costs of glue per unit of output, necessary and sufficient for the technological process of bonding the root of the book blocks. The results of the research will help to clarify and reduce the regulatory costs of adhesive compositions existing in the printing industry, in order to save expensive binding materials.

The article presents results of the lay-flat tests of the book expressed as the openness of a simple binding with a hot-melt adhesive, an analysis of the resistance of the back of the insert to multiple loads, analysis of damage in the structure of the adhesive film with repeated opening of the binding.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań czytelności książki wyrażonej jako otwieralność oprawy prostej z wkładem łączonym klejem topliwym, przeprowadzono analizę odporności grzbietu wkładu na wielokrotne obciążenia, sprawdzono uszkodzenia w strukturze błony klejowej w wyniku wielokrotnego otwierania oprawy.

The history of Bellona, one of the largest Polish publishing houses – the development process from the „Bellona“ magazine from 1918, through the publishing house of the Ministry of National Defense, to the contemporary private publishing company. The most important editorial projects, publishing series and magazines have been characterized. Based on a meticulous analysis of documents and interviews with employees, the employment status in various periods and financial results, as well as the issues of ownership transformations were discussed.

Books and films about the history of electrical engineering and activities of the Polish Electrical Engineers Association are presented. Real True gems are among the presented books as “Polacy zasłużeni dla elektryki” a several hundred pages long publication prepared and edited by Jerzy Hickiewicz. There are also biographies of distinguished electricians, among others, Stanisław Szpora, Alfons Hoffmann, Stanisła Fryze, Kazimierz Szpotański, Roman Dzieślewski. A relatively large number of books is presented describing the work of the Polish Electrical Association Divisions and departments of universities, which run courses related to electricity. Interesting are publications describing the development of energy, or an album “Historia elektrotechniki” by Stefan Gierlotka. A separate group are films that evoke the memory of eminent electricians Kazimierz Szpotański, Alfons Hoffmann and Roman Dzieślewski.

W literaturze bibliologiczno-informatologicznej oraz bibliotekarskiej stosuje się rozmaite określenia, które służą do referowania nowych (cyfrowych) postaci książki, a więc takich, które zaistniały dzięki określonym technologiom informacyjnym. W konsekwencji w dyskursie teoretyczno-praktycznym z zakresu bibliologii i informatologii funkcjonuje pokaźny (systematycznie rozbudowywany) repertuar przydawek słowa książka. W artykule skupiono się na wskazaniu istotnych zwrotów w ewolucji cyfrowych postaci książki, które każdorazowo związane były z wprowadzeniem nowych technologii informacyjnych. Celem artykułu jest próba prześledzenia wpływu technologii informacyjnych na ewolucję książki elektronicznej, pojawianie się nowych, cyfrowych postaci książki, a co za tym idzie, wpływu, który owocował i owocuje wprowadzaniem nowych określeń dla tych „nowo tworzonych” form książki.

In the book, library and information science literature are used terms which refer to the new (digital) forms of books, so those that came about through a specific information technology. Consequently, in the theoretical and practical discourse of bibliology and information science functions substantial (systematically expanded) repertoire of attributives the word book. The article focuses on the identification of significant returns in the evolution of the digital forms of books, each of which were associated with the introduction of new information technologies. This article attempts to trace the impact of information technology on the evolution of the electronic book, the emergence of new digital forms of books, and hence, the impact of which has led to the introduction of new terms for these "newly created" forms of books.

A common conviction that the design language is a source of unlimited abilities, must be re-verified in the case of such a specific object like a printed book. Book design is bound by numerous limitations both internally and externally. Internal limitations are created by the multi-layer design process itself, but also by the communication function of the book and its complex structure, evaluated for hundreds of years to rears to the current form. These limitations touch mostly the four rigid aspects of the book: the scripture, the typographic layout, illustrations and cover. The other kind of limitations which influence the graphic design of the edition, comes from external sources.

The author is describing the subject of esthetics in historic book printing in Warsaw printing hauses from 15th up to mid 20th century. He starts a polemics against a well grounded assumption among book historians that Warsaw printers in their origins (up to the end of 18th century) created products of inferior quality, when the material book form is considered. A number of examples are shown to present the craftsmanship of printers in the given period. The paper describes also the conjunction between visual form of book printed in Warsaw and the styles and tendencies in contemporary European typography and graphic arts. International trade liaisons, including close cooperation, employing foreign specialists like designers, printers and publishers, as well as quick reactions for the technology advances and implementing the novelties in Warsaw printing houses are mentioned.

Praca ta przedstawia wyniki gry online 'Zgadnij autora' jako przykładu gry opierającej się na zasadach human - based computation. Gra ta polega na odgadywaniu autora książki. Dzięki prostym, jasnym zasadom i dodatkowym elementom wpływającym na atrakcyjność dla graczy (nagrody, rywalizacja itp.) udało się osiągnąć znaczące efekty w gromadzeniu bazy danych połączeń autor - książka. Są to dane dostępne tradycyjnymi sposobami, ale ciężko osiągalne. Oprócz tego udało się wypracować mechanizmy i sprecyzować założenia jakie gry human - based computation muszą spełniać, aby były atrakcyjne dla użytkowników oraz jak zapobiegać dodawaniu błędnych danych do bazy.

This article presents the results of an on-line game called "Guess the author" as an example of a game grounded on human - based computation. The game consists in guessing authors of books. Thanks to its easy and clear rules as well as additional features that make the game more attractive to players (like awards, competition etc.), the game has been successful in collecting a data base of author - book links. This data is available in conventional way but rather hard to achieve. Apart from that, the authors successfully developed mechanisms and specified conditions that have to be met by human - based computation games so as to make them attractive and to prevent adding incorrect data to the database.
