W pracy przedstawiono przegląd siłowni binarnych działających na świecie w warunkach zbliżonych do tych panujących na Niżu Polskim. Skupiono się głównie na tych w których wykorzystywana jest woda termalna o temperaturze około 100oC. Przeanalizowano również parametry wody termalnej możliwej do pozyskania na Niżu Polskim za pomocą już wykonanych otworów geotermalnych, w których wykonywane były pompowania pomiarowe.

This paper presents an overview of the binary power plants operating all over the world in the conditions similar to those prevailing on Polish Lowlands. The paper is focused mainly on those power plants in which the thermal water's temperature is around 100oC. The parameters of the thermal water possible to raise on Polish Lowlands are also analyzed by using already completed geothermal wells, in which the pumping test were performed.

The paper contains an overview of the technologies used for generation of electricity from low-temperature geothermal energy resources, including an overview of installations in those technologies. The review is focused on the prospective adaptation of the technology under the Polish geothermal energy resources conditions. The most important parameters for the efficient power production by a binary power plant are analyzed. The paper draws attention to parallel – combined (CHP – combined heat and power production) use of geothermal energy to produce electricity and heat. Such an approach to the problem can significantly improve the economic viability of proposed solutions.

In the paper presented are definitions of specific indicators of power which characterize the operation of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) plant. These quantities have been presented as function of evaporation temperature for selected working fluids of ORC installation. In the paper presented also is the procedure for selection of working fluid with the view of obtaining maximum power. In the procedure of selection of working fluid the mentioned above indicators are of primary importance. In order to obtain maximum power there ought to be selected such working fluids which evaporate close to critical conditions. The value of this indicator increases when evaporation enthalpy decreases and it is known that the latent heat of evaporation decreases with temperature and reaches a value of zero at the critical point.

Elektrownie geotermalne, w których produkcja prądu elektrycznego oparta jest na Obiegu Organicznym Rankine'a (ang. Organic Rankine Cycle- ORC) lub Cyklu Kaliny stają się coraz bardziej powszechnym rozwiązaniem wykorzystania energii geotermalnej. Na świecie działa obecnie 75 tego typu elektrowni, z czego tylko w trzech wykorzystano Cykl Kaliny. Są to instalacje w Husaviku (Islandia), Unterhaching i Bruchsal (Niemcy). Co godne uwagi, aż 37 elektrowni geotermalnych wykorzystujących ORC działa w USA. Niniejsza praca zawiera opis najbardziej interesujących według autora elektrociepłowni binarnych na świecie.

Geothermal power plants, in which electricity production based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) or Kalina' Cycle are becoming common solution to use geothermal energy. There are currently 75 such kind of geothermal power plants in the world, of which only three operates on the base of Kalina' Cycl. These are installations in Husavik (Iceland), Unterhaching (Germany), Bruchsal (Germany). Remarkably, 37 ORC geothermal power plants working in the United States. The paper also presents the most interesting, in author opinion, binary power plants in the world.
